Dunn is now teasing us with retirement talk. Unfortunately, it's 3 years too late.

Blue Jays vs White Sox game thread

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) Sox are 34-30 against teams with a 500 or better record and 25-35 against teams under 500 Our record against Minnesota isn't helping matters. We had that six game stretch against Minnesota and the Rangers where we could have gotten back to 1 game under and instead ended up back at 5 games under after playing well against the Tigers and Twins three weeks ago coming into that stretch. Of course, a lot of it has to do with Abreu's HR bat going cold at right about that time. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) Second out I guess that makes a bit more sense with the lefty vs. lefty match-up against Gillaspie coming next...although Conor already had a GS earlier. Doesn't matter now...at least Avi was hustling AND didn't get hurt again. Somehow the White Sox went 5-2 against the Blue Jays this season, even though TOR was clearly the more dangerous team. -

What the hell was DeAza doing? Luckily, Conor was there to save him from disaster. -

Here we go again. Avi's over-aggressiveness going for a triple there might end up hurting, as you never make the 1st or 3rd out at third. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 02:01 PM) It is amazing Abbatacola obviously hates Hawk after Hawk did so much for him using his name in his play by play. Kind of odd. That was a big break for Abbatacola that a Hall of Fame announcer like Hawk would use his name in his play by play regularly. Well...since those are broken bat infield grounders, not sure it's such a compliment. I'm sure it has something to do with either a golf or softball swing Abbatacola took in some type of Score event. And I wouldn't quite put his fame up there with Bob Rohrman and Alex and Ursula Snelius. -
QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 12:54 PM) Gordon is blocking Semien, and Semien is ready. Dunn is blocking Avisail from DH duties, which is where I would like to see him for most of the rest of the season, for his own good. Unless they're going to DH him next season, he simply has to learn how to play RF and better protect himself out there.

Someone called into Steve Stone this morning on the Hit & Run show to ask a question. What do the White Sox need to do to improve their baserunning? Answer: "Get better baserunners." -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 02:06 PM) Webb has much better secondary pitches I guess we heard the same thing about Addison Reed's slider, and it was nowhere as good as advertised (like Sergio Santos' stuff before the injury). All I know is Webb seemingly has little command and almost always puts runners on base whenever I catch a game. -

Can Mike Ilitch pay a bribe to get the game called before 5+ innings in Minny? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 02:03 PM) I still think it's worth a shot in September to see if he gains a few mph on the heater Petricka has a better repertoire and certainly a better second pitch. Unless Webb's in the high 90's and not 94-96, he's not going to have a very long shelf life. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) RV is so stupid. Webb needs to be closing. I think that was the off-season mantra. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 09:45 AM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 4h Carl Crawford sponsored Chicago's Little League WS team. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/29303480-41...ml#.U_CIwhbgXwI … He picked up families' travel expenses to Williamsport. As well as the Upton brothers and LaTroy Hawkins.

I think it was July 21st, which is about when Cooper left the team. Would have to double check. Stanton hit his 32nd today. Jackie Robinson LL getting smacked around. Must have already used their best pitcher. LV had a pretty impressive (and big) kid there out on the mound. -
Well, Baez walked twice in one day (I think the second one was former White Sox, now Mets, pitcher Carlos Torres). Also had a K. Still 22 K's in 55 ab's. Mid 700's OPS. Alcantara's close to getting replaced by Szczur. There's a prospect name. First Samardzija, now this guy.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) Zero chance he pitches out of the bullpen next year, not with Boras as his agent. How would that make any sense for the White Sox as well? They need three starters, at least 2. When Sale came up in 2010/11, there were much better rotation options/depth on the roster.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 09:58 AM) I agree, he'll replace Danks in the rotation in my opinion. Who are they going to trade Danks for, Edwin Jackson? They're not going to simply eat $25-30 million.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 09:51 AM) The Baseball Cube @thebaseballcube 12h Jim Johnson is back in the big leagues as Tigers purchase his contract. Never would have thought a month ago that the Tigers and A's might be headed for a one-game elimination playoff. They looked like the two favorites in the AL. Obviously, they both could make it...and the Tigers have to be the slight favorites for the division, but there are still a lot of question marks now with Verlander, Sanchez and Soria. Nobody knows how well JD Martinez, Rajai Davis and Castellanos will whether the heat of a pennant race, and rookie SS Suarez has been fading offensively...probably wearing down a bit.

Chris Beck interview - Taking Questions
caulfield12 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) I'm working on interviewing Chris Beck tomorrow (Monday), though I am still trying to work out a time. Assuming I can get it set up, what questions would you like to see asked of him? I've got some in mind, but looking for more ideas. Let's hear 'em! How did Georgia Southern help prepare you for professional baseball?...while it's not a famous school compared to UGA or Ga Tech, it has produced Joey Hamilton/Todd Greene and has had a rich baseball tradition for many decades. What do the White Sox coaches communicate to you about the lack of strikeouts...is there something specific you're working (like Rodon's change-up) on that is cutting your K numbers down from where you'd like them to be (7-10 K/IP)? What are 3 things you feel you need to improve upon to make it to the major leagues and stay there? How have you found the proper balance between "bulking up" physically and what the White Sox strength & conditioning personnel have worked with you on....what, if anything, has changed about your off-season routine? -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 09:16 AM) They jump on him for his opinion on Asian(oriental) and Caribbean (you can't walk off the island) players What did he say about Asian players? He loves Ichiro...and was always a big Iguchi fan, Takatsu too, while it lasted with the gong. Because the White Sox used a gong sound, lol? -

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 08:56 AM) He retweeted some who said a Hawk was also a racist. What did I miss there? Things like this are why I hate sports talk radio. Yeah, I saw that one, too. Would be funny if it ended up blowing up and kept him from getting his supposed morning show with Spiegel, Two Matts, whatever from 10-1. I guess it's just because Harrelson is old and grew up in (Savannah) Georgia. Not sure where the racism thing came from. Maybe he was still drunk over that time period from the Saturday night 15th Anniversary thing with B&B and wasn't paying attention to what he was doing. Another woman made a comment about insulting your (female) fanbase...someone said something about a bad White Sox team costing him his chance to get a show (not sure what that was supposed to mean). -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 02:23 AM) It sure sounds like the cops were brutal and awful in so many ways. Where we are now, though, a person is critical condition tonight because the looters shot one of their own in the street. The cops have to get tough rounding up the looters. Those "Purge" movies are getting closer and closer to reality... Meanwhile, Twitter co-founder/billionaire and St. Louis native Jack Dorsey gets involved with chronicling and supporting Ferguson protesters (good for business or his conscience tweaking him?) http://news.yahoo.com/twitter-co-founder-j...-033543317.html

http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/be...ground.cnn.html What I don't get is why someone didn't have the human decency for 3-4 hours to at least cover his body with a sheet or something...anything? It is a bit unreal.
