Who's on Second?
http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/112...sox-drop-royals The dreaded Merkin puff piece on Johnson has arrived. "You notice his speed and his range, even his at-bats, you start seeing what people are talking about and he's getting in the middle of everything," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "He had some nice turns defensively, I thought he showed some of the range. He had the one ball that came out of his glove, but he still was able to get to it. He just continues to play hard and play with purpose." #thechosenoneprodigalJOHNson

Who the heck is Engel Beltre?
http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/pro...?P=Engel-Beltre 25 year old Dominican CFer who looks to be a high 600's/low 700's OPS guy with 31 and 36 stolen base totals on his stat sheet. Last really productive offensive season was Bakersfield in 2010, although he has put us as many as 13 homers in a minor league campaign, 2012 in AA. Property of the Rangers his entire career until now.

2015 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 11, 2015 -> 12:44 AM) that TV deal and the money coming in is really good. It matters to Mark Teahen and Jeff Keppinger, haha.

ST: 3/10 at Royals
Best scenario, Sanchez in the minors....Johnson proves himself, Bonifacio backs up everywhere/PR and Beckham is platoon 3B and occasionally at 2B (Bonifacio should get most of his ab's here and in the OF) and 3-5 games at SS, at MOST, for Gordo.

ESPN Future Power Rankings (Insider)
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 05:08 PM) That's kind of a strange ranking; Tigers and Angels have farm systems at the bottom, but they are in the top 1/2 on this list. What is the time window or horizon for that? 2-3 years out? 5 years?

2015 Cubs Catch-All thread
QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) Related: Soler, Baez, and Bryant just left the yard back-to-back-to-back. I know because Twitter lit up with Cub jubilation. Cubulation?

ST: 3/10 at Royals
Sanchez, at best, is described as complementary or competent. That's upside, he "won't kill you" or something like that. Johnson can change a game offensively AND defensively (at least, he showcased that side of his skills today). Royals' guys saying Micah Johnson had an absolutely SUPERB performance today. 4/4, two great defensive plays and almost made the defensive play of the pre-season if he could have held onto the ball.

Hawkins impressing so far this spring... Didn't realized we'd cornered the market on LaRoche brothers, I guess to replace the Danks Boys.

Who the heck is Engel Beltre?
Anyone have any "inside info" on this guy? Former Ranger...just showed up in the game today.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) Yea those things have to be handled with an inner fire. The season is too long to let things bother you. Vow to do better then let it roll off your back. Yeah, visibly frustrated and had his hands folded across his chest....lets chalk it up to competitiveness and not immaturity or petulance.

ST: 3/10 at Royals
Micah Johnson has dominated this game offensively and defensively... Would have been the best play of the spring had he held onto it according to Royals' radio guys.

Latest Vegas odds for regular season wins
QUOTE (1dog @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 06:09 PM) Do I get a vote? Congrats. I think you're conflating season wins with futures. You are 100% correct regarding futures. It's a "one way" bet, meaning there's no price on the "no" for the Cubs not to win the World Series. Books will rip off the public just because they can - the holds can be 50%. Season wins is different. Typically, you can bet on the yes or the no with -110 on both sides (if it's not exactly -110, it's 20 cents of vig total). So because it's a 2 way bet (you can bet the over or under), there's not as much play for the house. The public won't move these lines because they are betting relatively small amounts of money. That said, pros won't typically put down huge amounts of money either, mostly because it takes 6 months to resolve the bet, unless you have access to credit, and even then it's still a pain. So yes, the bettors set the line, as with everything else, but season wins are vastly different from futures pricing. The hold for a season wins bet with -110 pricing is 4.5%, whereas the hold on futures bets to win the World Series are going to be 30-50%. Meaning, the season wins lines are going to be more accurate. Were you a cast member of "21"?

ST: 3/9 vs D-backs 3:05
QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 06:37 PM) Juan Diaz a lefty if I am remembering Lillian's pet correctly. Is he a distant cousin of Grady Sizemore on his mother's side? Where is that guy, anyway...retired? Still playing somewhere in camp?

AAP: Francellis Montas
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 09:27 PM) Thanks for posting, good quotes from Montas and Coop. As for Levine, good to see him catching on to what most Sox fans already know. Good to see him taking his weight "issues" seriously...as well. That can only help his stamina, endurance and fielding ability.

Rodon believes he's ready now
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 08:27 PM) the season is long and it is going to be hard. this team needs to think about resting the starting 5 pitchers with a limited pitch count. yes, i agree that this team first needs to make the playoff, but it is not going to happen in the first 2 months. the race will intensify towards the end of the season. let me ask this question, how many of the present starting 5 pitchers has pitched in the playoff? how many have pitched long innings, innings in the area of 190+ and more considering the amount of playoff games they play? how many innings does anyone can expect from Rodon, who is a rookie, who had a dead arm last yr, he will need to build up to those long innings?? i agree with Balta, spread those innings smartly with a full rotation, to save up innings, to save the arm for the longer haul, the playoff. yeah, first the team needs to make it, and i have faith. while drinking my sox kool-aid. lastly, there is no right or wrong formula to get pitchers and the team ready for the playoff, and this team does not have any previous experience. so it is flying by the seat of the pants and hope the FO is and will do it right. Samardzija (1 IP)...and Danks, also, more famously, in 2008.

There's a new Sox fan in town!
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 08:40 PM) I'm tired. Three nights in a row, the baby was up at 230 or 300 and didn't finally go back to sleep without crying until around 530 or 6 a.m. Luckily, my wife's mom has been very helpful, and has done most of the hard work (changing diapers/helping to get over hiccups/bathing and washing, etc.)

Is this a surprise? Any reports on velocity/pop and whether he can throw the slider?

Rodon believes he's ready now
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) IMO, keeping Chris Sale healthy is the #1 key to this season. He's already having an issue with that, even though it's not with his arm. We shouldn't be ridiculous about it, we should push to get him over 200 innings, but we also shouldn't be crazy with him. If we're using Mr. "offday" for Rodon, then that means extra starts for everyone else in the rotation. The rest of the rotation doesn't get an extra 5th or 6th day rest, they just go every 4th day and you assume that they'll be ok. That's what I call being stupid with the guys. If you need to shift Sale around at the end of the year, or use Mr Offday to skip a start once because you need Chris to pitch the team into the playoffs, fine, but if Chris has already pitched 220 innings because he had to work every 5th day so Rodon could get his extra rest, that's at best a roll of the dice. Are you ready to put 250-260 innings on Sale's arm in order to make a playoff run? Is having Rodon up really worth that? That's what I call "not being dumb" with the guys. When you have a guy who has had elbow soreness complaints in 2 of his 3 seasons as a starter and a long DL trip last year, don't be dumb with him. Pitch him every time his spot comes up in the rotation, but use the normal 5 man rotation. Let him have extra rest 1/2 of the times he pitches because there's an offday. Don't just assume his arm will be able to take everything you throw at it. If he's going to get hurt during a normal season, fine it was meant to happen. If he's picking up the slack so that you could have a rookie in the rotation and his arm starts getting sore, is the rookie in the rotation a big enough upgrade that you're ok missing Sale for a while? No. All quite logical. But do they have the discipline to stick to this plan to protect guys in the heat of the August playoff drive? If they're throwing the likes of Penny, Carroll, Johnson and Beck out there, it might get ugly. The best case is guys like Montas and Danish can also end up pitching like Brandon McCarthy did down the stretch in 2005...and you take some workload off Sale and Rodon without putting the team behind the 8 ball or forcing a mid season trade deadline acquisition.

Who's on Second?
QUOTE (Lillian @ Mar 9, 2015 -> 08:12 AM) If this is representative of how Micah turns double plays, I don't want to see him at second: http://m.mlb.com/video/v43049883/cwsoak-sa...-vs-as/?cid=cws He makes several plays on this clip, but the one that caught my attention was the double play. The play starts at :25, and demonstrates his foot work at the bag, and a not very pretty throwing motion. He'll have to do better than that Slow runner...but he shouldn't have been so lazy mechanically, bad habit to get into. And he's left-handed, c'mon!
