Civale, Noda up, Elko, Gilbert down
That's not insignificant money for the Brewers...still. I guess they're really hoping that Vaughn can be decent enough they can justify not having to pay Hoskins $18 million next year. Mid-market teams just can't afford that when they can go out and get a J.Bell, R.Tellez, C.Santana, Gavin Sheets, Domonic Smith type for pennies on the dollar. You only pay that kind of money for 1B/DH for true difference makers like a Rafael Devers or slightly below.

Bringing the hottest hitter in AAA up to play him for 3 days...then demote him again? So on brand for the Sox.

Arlington Heights making stadium pitch to White Sox?
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45392359/2025-mlb-ballpark-village-truist-park-battery-atlanta-future-business-cities-build "Financially, it's easy to see the impact of The Battery through the prism of the annual franchise valuations published by Forbes. At the time the Braves announced their move, the most recent set of valuations ranked the Braves 15th across MLB. The Braves now rank eighth, at an estimated $3 billion. Their 250% increase in valuation since the announcement is the fourth highest during that span, behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros. While it is hard not to be impressed by the sheer audacity of what the Braves had done, with the aid of public funds that remain a source of contention in Cobb County and beyond, it's worth revisiting Manfred's 2017 comments on a new model for teams. Would such projects -- a stadium and a neighborhood to go with it, created concurrently, become baseball's new ballpark standard?"

Utah Jazz? Aren't the profit margins on sodas and bottled water even higher? It would be interesting to see how they compensate for that (religious/consumption differences)...ice cream and milkshakes are popular, for example?

Sox trade Andrew Vaughn to acquire Aaron Civale
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/article/mlb-rumors-brewers-star-danger-213128188.html “If the Brewers become convinced that newly acquired Andrew Vaughn could return to being an everyday first baseman, veteran Rhys Hoskins could be a valuable chip at the trade deadline,” Nightengale wrote. Hoskins has been involved in trade rumors over the past few weeks, and would seem to be a huge trade candidate since he has a $18 million mutual option for 2026. There’s a good chance that the team will turn down the option because of how much it is."

All things LA Dodgers Thread...
But even as Roberts shared that positive piece of news, the Dodgers were still dealing with another situation with their pitching staff. He said the team is having to “plan on life without” Roki Sasaki for “as far as this year.” The Japanese pitcher has been out since May 9 and has been working his way back from a shoulder impingement. Sasaki has been “not comfortable” and Roberts said that he is “not feeling that he can ramp it up.” “I don’t know if it’s pain… it’s more of a question for Roki, to be quite honest with you,” Roberts said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “As far as kind of the sensation, I don’t — it’s discomfort. I don’t think it’s pain. It’s tightness.” https://sports.yahoo.com/article/shohei-ohtani-return-mlb-mound-022632130.html

Rafael Devers traded to San Fran
Given Harrison's potential upside, it's not fair to completely slam the Red Sox. Devers has a big contract, but it doesn't feel out of line with some other recent deals -- such as Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s $500 million contract. Maybe the Red Sox will take those savings and go after some more pitching help, either at the trade deadline or in the offseason. Still, when you're looking to trade a player because of a broken relationship, it's hard to get fair value in return -- and it feels as if the Red Sox came up short here. Maybe this will prove to be the best move for the organization in the long run, but their playoff hopes for 2025 take a hit. Grade: C SF got an A- trade grade...fwiw https://global.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45520299/2025-mlb-trade-deadline-rafael-devers-san-francisco-giants-boston-red-sox-grades

Devers
Yes SFG/Posey believe they're one more star on offense from being a serious threat in the playoffs. "All in/going for it" with that massive payroll bump, especially the second half of that Devers deal in years 8-11. But this very well might be THE one year that the LAD are most vulnerable due to all the pitching injuries. (And look at where the Orioles are now after NOT putting all their chips in last year. Or the Braves, waiting on Acuna, Jr.)
-
Devers
Would need 2-3 middle of the order hitters and a closer just to get back to. 500. On a payroll where exceeding $5 million on a FA before 2028 isn't going to be allowed in order to control financial losses.
-
Devers
Devers was not the $300+ million one dimensional player you add. Boston screwed up with Betts, but Bogaerts and now Devers will be addition by subtraction. Posey overreaching in reaction to SF missing on so many big free agent targets the last half decade.

Rafael Devers traded to San Fran
Devers is currently in the second year of an 11-year, $313.5 million extension he signed in 2023. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Giants will be picking up the remainder of Devers' contract. The Giants currently have baseball's best defensive third baseman in Matt Chapman, but he is injured for a few weeks, so it is possible Devers could play third base in San Francisco or just stick as a DH. The move came shockingly close to first pitch for Sunday's game. Harrison was set to start Sunday's game, but Sean Hjelle took the mound instead at Dodger Stadium. ESPN's broadcasters said they found out around 90 minutes before first pitch. In an in-game interview from shortstop, Giants star Willy Adames said he found out around 20 minutes before the game and expressed his excitement at welcoming Devers to the Bay. "Everybody's so excited," Adames said. "Me personally, I'm thrilled to have him on the team. Obviously, he's one of the best hitters in the game, and to have him on the team, I think he's going to help us do a lot of damage in the division. Obviously, we need a bat like him in this lineup, so now when we get Chappie back in the lineup, it's going to be exciting." sfgate.com/sports Well, it's going to be a battle until the end for the last WC spots in the NL and especially the AL. This should open up more playing time for Campbell Anthony Mayer and also (temporarily) put to bed rumors of an impending Duran trade.

Today Game! Father's Day. Rangers vs Sox
Tray concurs. Abysmal road and one run records... too embarrassing to recount. Feels like this week is back to draft pick positioning with some of these lineups. No power... no dominant pitchers out of the pen other than Taylor potentially. With Teel up now...feels like a HUGE wait time for Braden and Bonemer.
