QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 16, 2012 -> 09:54 PM) Also, watched most of The Change-Up last night. It was surprisingly very funny so far. I really enjoyed how Bateman and Reynolds were able to make fun of eachothers quirks and mannerisms. It really helped me believe they had actually switched bodies. Plus, I can probably watch any Ryan Reynolds movie. He is such a great actor to watch. Not because he is some great actor or anything, but he is very.....entertaining I guess? He's captivating. At first I thought this was written by a teenage girl. Guess it's the Reynolds/Gosling Effect...a little bit like Will Smith when he was the same age, where no matter how good or bad the role, he always made it eminently "watchable" at the very least.

The Cardinals have five of the first 59 selections and the Blue Jays hold five of the first 60 picks. The rich just get richer.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 16, 2012 -> 11:52 PM) Predicting 2013 or 2014 here... KW trades for Torii Hunter. And forces him into CF even though the days of Hunter as a Gold Glove-caliber player at that position are at least five years behind him.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 17, 2012 -> 12:32 AM) Viciedo was signed 2 years before Teahen started playing for the Sox. He was supposed to be the stop gap. He was signed for 3 years, right? That's a reasonable window for Viciedo to be ready. The Edwin Jackson rant is just a typical rant that may, or may not be related. You're just mad and you're gonna let everyone know, damnit!!! *edit* 1 year before, not 2 Viciedo was signed in November, 2008. Teahen was traded for in November, 2009. (Looks like ONE year to me, not two). When Viciedo was acquired, many thought he was going to be able to play at the major league level in either 2009 or 2010 (that's what actually ended up happening, he was very good when he first came up in 2010 before he tailed off at the end). The reason they signed Teahen is because they had already given up on Dayan Viciedo playing 3B after that season at Birmingham. At that time, nobody was expecting Dayan to stay at 3B because the organization was already viewing him as an outfielder/1B/DH type. Mad? There's no point in being mad about something that already happened. But to turn around after all this time and making Viciedo the starting 3B again would be ridiculous. The point is that we once again have nothing to show for a quality big league starting pitcher in Edwin Jackson...and we would have been better off simply sticking with Dayan Viciedo at 3B going into the 2010 season, in which case he would have three had full years of experience coming into 2012 instead of merely one. Now, because our minor league depth is so bad, we don't have a replacement behind Morel. So we're stuck ONCE AGAIN moving one of our position players around instead of having the depth to replace them from within...a strategy that clearly hasn't worked very well.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 16, 2012 -> 11:31 PM) Who did we trade for him, Getz and Fields? That just screams of "desperation." Wtf? The desperation was forcing him into the equation as the long-term answer at 3B instead of just as an experimental, one-season stopgap. The same thing as if we traded for Callaspo from the Angels to play there for the remainder of THIS season. Because of that idiotic, unwarranted extension, we traded Edwin Jackson for the last reliever on our major league roster (albeit, he's pitching better than expected, but still not a great end result).
-
It would be pretty darned ironic if Viciedo does end up back at 3B, after all this. That type of desperate measure really has the potential to make the desperation trade and extension of Teahen look extremely short-sighted.
-
Orioles score, looks like we maintain sole possession of 3rd place for another day, lol.
-
The worst thing we could do is have him make 2-3 errors at 3B and mess up his growing confidence at the plate right now.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2012 -> 11:06 PM) Mitchell isn't ready next year for the majors. He's not someone they need to rush, especially with De Aza playing as a better version of him right now. And therein lies the problem. Our best hitting prospect doesn't do anything to help our team until at least 2014. That leaves 3B, C, 2B as major question marks going forward. And who knows if Alexei will ever return to being a 700 OPS hitter.

QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ May 16, 2012 -> 11:04 PM) Reinsdorf's Chicago American League Ballclub - for whatever ails you Mcgrad, have you ever posted in the first 4-5 innings of a game, lol?

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 16, 2012 -> 11:03 PM) Mitchell 3-4, 2B. today. And a walk. Just not sure where he could play next year. They're not going to move Rios. The only way would be if Viciedo was moved to 1B/DH and Dunn was traded. Orioles and the Royals in the top of the 15th now thanks to Broxton's blown save.

I hope they seriously don't give Morel's at-bats to Escobar. They have to try and see if Lillibridge can get hot again. If nothing else, if Brent gets on, it's like an automatic double or triple. Mike Trout's early season problems seem to be a thing of the past. He's getting on-base nearly every time now. Angels' announcers pointing out the obvious, that Crain's fastball is very straight. Trout out on the basepaths twice tonight.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2012 -> 10:57 PM) Worst OPS by at least 42 points right now. How do you have an OPS of 400? I didn't even know that was possible until this season. Marlon Byrd has to be happy that Brent's around make him look better in Beantown.
-
Poor Morel. (Chris Snopek managed a career OPS of 639 and he was REALLY bad). 3 times up, hasn't gotten the ball out of the infield. I guess MLB is considering having the fake throw to 3B and then back to 1st be declared a balk beginning in 2013. Jack McDowell is probably busy penning a response to the USA Today and Commish's Office.
-
Viciedo all the way up to .239 on the gift hit thanks to Mr. Williams.
-
Have we decided to throw in the towel on Brent Morel yet for the first half of 2012?

I doubt Rios is going to end up with 75 RBI's on only 8 homers. That would require consistent clutch hitting for most of the season... Well, this game is in danger of being OVA soon with the start of this inning by Gavin. 9 hits in only 5 IP. .189 average against Gavin Floyd coming into the game, 3rd best average in the AL. Must be the new hitting coach, lol. Angels' announcers say they haven't seen this type of display all season long. "Angels' offense looks fabulous tonight." And there's your ballgame. 7-15 streak for the White Sox. First homer for Wells that wasn't of the solo variety. No action in the White Sox bullpen, lol.
-
Royals had the much easier chance to move into a tie with the White Sox but Broxton blew the save and gave up 2 runs against the Orioles. Still playing, bottom of the 13th inning.
-
Mitchell at least is 1/1 and back over the .270 mark. Anything from .280 and above for him on the season would be a great improvement, but he's striking out more and walking less compared to his earlier trendlines. Simon Castro has been pitching much better recently. 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R (unearned), 3 K's so far. Ozzie Martinez and KWJR both fighting to get over the Mendoza Line. Martinez 2/2 with a couple of RBI's. Mitchell with another hit (8th double) and a walk.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 16, 2012 -> 09:02 AM) Pujols had three hits last night All three of them were infield hits, so not exactly line drives and XB smashes into the gaps. He does have 14 RBI's on the season, which is only abysmal by his normal standards.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 16, 2012 -> 07:23 AM) Brett Lawrie ejected for arguing call, throws his helmet and it richochets up and nails the umpire. Im guessing he will be sitting out for a few http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/7936517/...et-gets-ejected Pujols claims his first victim in Anaheim, Mickey Hatcher loses his job as hitting coach http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_...-mickey-hatcher Tuesday's move reflects a difference of philosophy between previous regimes in Anaheim and Dipoto's increased emphasis on on-base percentage and the incorporation of advanced analytics into the team's approach. Hatcher emphasized an aggressive approach at the plate. "We've struggled with situational hitting, we've struggled to get on base in ways other than the safely hit ball," Dipoto said. "Good hitters are also patient hitters. This is not necessarily about the individual message as much as the team-wide message we need to stress with our players." Haven't we been hearing the same type of talk from the White Sox for at least five years now?

Porcello getting roughed up too, but only one of the runs earned. Meanwhile, the Indians are trudging along in first place to the lowest attendance in the majors, just like 2011. Except last year, it seemed almost every one of their victories was a walk-off or dramatic come-from-behind win, many of them at home.

He did do away with his 1985 "Tears for Fears"/Prince Valiant or Prince Caspian haircut. That makes him look a bit tougher.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 16, 2012 -> 12:34 AM) Catcher is way higher on my list of needs than any of Marty's except 3b. Except we at least have a theoretical answer for 2013 in a combination of Phegley/Flowers. While it would be great to imagine there's another Wilson Ramos or Buster Posey just waiting to be traded to the Sox by a bottom quartile GM, the likelihood of that happening is pretty minimal.
