JR and KW need to clarify the direction of the "All In"
Thought Chipper Jones had been named Sox manager and I missed a headline... At least if his son didn't play, he SHOULD be mad at the AA manager or Buddy Bell, and not any member of the Guillen family this time around. They're actually not the culprits for once. But it's probably worse his other son is playing and taking playing time from SOMEONE who is more deserving, no matter how bad our system is at the moment.

Are you sure it was the fights and not the sexy outfits that you liked, lol? That movie was like teaser softcore porn on Cinemax Friday nights that was afraid to actually show any skin...strikeout for Zach Snyder on this one. Abbie Cornish was the only actress that left any kind of a lasting impression on you.

Ozzie throws Lillibridge under the bus, spares Rios
‘‘"We've been missing that a lot,"’’ Guillen said. ‘‘"I think the basics of the game (GEE, I WONDER WHY THAT IS OZZIE...HMM!), we're not too good at. . . . I have players out there that should know better than that. When you throw to the wrong base, you give them another opportunity."’ Dunn had another rough night. The boo-birds among the 24,142 fans — about 900 below the Sox’ home average — got more vocal with each of Dunn’s three strikeouts. “ "I love Adam Dunn, on and off the field,"’’ Pierzynski said. “"Everyone's been there. If you've played this game, you've struggled. This is not an easy game. It's not football, where you can get yelled at and screamed at, and it makes you play better." “"CC Sabathia is one of the best left-handers in baseball. [Dunn's] last at-bat, he went 98 [mph], 98 and a 75 mph slider to strike him out. I mean, tip your hat to the other guy." “"Alex [Rios] and him are guys that you want to do well, that we need to do well. You feel for them, you feel for their suffering and pain, but you just know that tomorrow's another day. Tomorrow Adam will be in the lineup again, and hopefully tomorrow will be the day where everything clicks and he gets going, and the rest of the way, he hits 20 homers, and we find a way to get this ship righted and it works out." www.suntimes.com/sports “It's not easy when it doesn't seem like people are behind you,” Beckham said. “I know it's tough on him. Obviously he wants to do well; we want him to do well. It's hard. “He's been upbeat the whole time, but it still hasn't come for him. There's still time. If he can just get going for us in any capacity, we have a good chance to win.” Pierzynski gave the credit to Sabathia for being good, so you again have to wonder why Dunn was in the lineup, even with Paul Konerko (sore left leg) sitting out. “I love Adam Dunn, on and off the field,” Pierzynski said. “Everyone's been there. If you've ever played this game, you've struggled. This is not an easy game to play. There's only so much you can do. “You've got to put the work in; he's done that, he's put the time in and he's trying to make adjustments. He's got some hits the last week or so. “But facing CC Sabathia tonight, he's one of the best left-handed pitchers in baseball. His last at-bat he went 98 (mph), 98 and a 75 mph slider to strike him out. “I mean tip your hat to the other guy. I thought he had some good swings early in the game, he just missed the ball his first at-bat (by 1/32nd of an inch according to Harrelson, so so so tired of that excuse for Dunn's hitting this season, like there should be a category for "just missed it, hang whiff 'ems"). It just didn't work out.” Read more: http://www.dailyherald.com/article/2011080.../#ixzz1Tnx6YLdp

Ozzie throws Lillibridge under the bus, spares Rios
Right fielder Brent Lillibridge missed the cutoff man that enabled Brett Gardner to score the Yankees' first run in the first inning, and Robinson Cano's grounder caromed off the glove of Adam Dunn — filling in for Konerko at first base — to score Curtis Granderson with the second run. "The basics of the game, we're not too good about it," manager Ozzie Guillen said in reference to Lillibridge's errant throw. "Do the little things people are supposed to do. I have players out there that should know better than that." Lillibridge's woes weren't limited to right, where he started in place of Carlos Quentin (who handled Dunn's designated hitter duties). With the tying and go-ahead runs on base with no outs in the fifth, Lillibridge popped up a sacrifice bunt for the first out. "The (poorly executed) bunt was big for the game," Guillen said. "I don't know what could have happened there, but I think that was huge." Brent Morel lined into two inning-ending double plays that caught Gordon Beckham and A.J. Pierzynski off second base to end rallies in the third and fifth. The Sox were 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Dunn struck out three times to increase his season total to 137. "Adam will be in the lineup again and hopefully (Tuesday) will be the day where everything clicks and he gets going, and the rest of the way he hits 20 homers and we find a way to get this ship righted and it works out," Pierzynski said. www.chicagotribune.com/sports I wonder if this article really reflects what Beckham said (bad grammar) or the editor didn't notice it? A lot more quotes on Dunn and how the other players feel for him with the booing and fan frustration. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,4217458.story

Who Do You Dislike More?
Baines Ray Ray Durham Lance Johnson James Baldwin Minnie Minoso Thomas (with MOST fans) All those guys were super popular and fan favorites. I hated Brian Anderson and Mark Teahen with a passion. Does that make me anti-white or a member of the Michigan Malcolm X Militia or Green Tea Party? Willie McGee is still (far and away) the most popular Cardinal of the last 30 years and I consider that region of the country to be more racist than Chicago.

2011 Films Thread
Crazy, Stupid Love is almost an excellent film. (Also the tagline for all White Sox fans this year following this team on a daily basis...) Not getting a lot of pub, but Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and Julianne Moore are perfectly cast. At first it took me time to adjust to the idea of Julianne Moore in a mainstream romantic comedy like this, but she fit right in. Couldn't recommend it enough. Gosling is becoming one of the most versatile actors of his generation. He'd done dark, romantic fluff and this, which was a little bit of the Frank TJ Mackey Tom Cruise character from Magnolia but with a redeeming virtue. Carell wasn't quite as good as in Little Miss Sunshine, but he blows away his more "dark" performance in Life of Dan. Can't wait to see him in IDES OF MARCH with Clooney and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Also want to see the Ryan Reynolds/Jason Bateman movie where they "switch" lives....might be decent.

The 2011 Torture Sox can't even LOSE the right way
Except who was Quentin going to be sold to, exactly? Thornton's overpaid for a set-up guy unless you're the Yankees paying R. Soriano $10+ million per appearance. That leaves trading Danks/Floyd/Buehrle. And Trading Danks or Buehrle really would have set off a fan rebellion/boycott. If they want to sell any season tickets next year...the worst they can do is trade one out of Quentin/Floyd/Danks and/or simply not resigning Mark. Two or more of those guys are gone, it's clearly a rebuilding season whether they like it or not. That will be the perception. And we'll be 25th in MLB attendance or worse, since our tickets across the board are priced 3rd or 4th highest in the majors.

8/1 Yankees @ Sox 7:10
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 08:56 PM) Wow, the attendance was only 24k tonight? That's absolutely pathetic. Seems like our fans threw in the towel after Tuesday Tigers game. And that was for a discount/half-price or "Family Night," right? God can only imagine how we'll draw the next 3 games when fans have to pay "dynamic" pricing. It might even be 65-70% Yankees fans.

How bad is Alex Rios on the suck-o-meter?
He sucks, but not as bad as Dunn... Morel is never going to stick while hitting the ball so anemically he makes Chris Snopek or Greg Norton look like Robin Ventura. And Gordon Beckham still can't drive a fastball to save his life.

Okay, I'll try a J4L rant today
Sabathia now 18-4 career against the White Sox. This team continues to shoot themselves in the foot fundamentally...and there's zero accountability being exemplified by the coaching staff. 1) Two very important runners in Beckham and AJ (who's our smartest player) picked off of second base in horrible baserunning blunders. 2) Lillibridge once again failing to execute in a sacrifice bunting situation. 3) Lillibridge missing the cutoff man on a throw from RF. Now Brent had a hustle single and did a good job late in the game holding them to the single on the ball down the RF line...but you absolutely have to get that bunt down. He jabbed at a ball that was quite high and a bit outside from way underneath it, of course the result's going to be a pop-up. Zero hitting with RISP, as usual. You just can't beat Sabathia unless you execute better than that. We had quite a few chances to break through, and just never came up with that big hit. Story of the season. And Dunn had a couple of balls in the early innings that could have been outs, and probably would have been with Konerko playing over there. I think both of those plays eventually led to a run. At the very worst, it would have been a 2-2 game without Dunn at first...and Konerko would have come up in at least one key situation with the opportunity late in the ballgame to drive a run in from the 3 hole. At least we were spared the automatic Rivera punchout of Dunn in the 9th inning. Beckham had two hits, but he looked completely overmatched against Rivera, and Dunn looked about as good as John "I Am Not A" Kruk against Randy Johnson in the All-Star game in his last at-bat against Sabathia in the 8th. And this isn't the Mo Rivera of 2006 or even 2001. He's a one pitch pitcher, much like Thornton. It's inconceivable that you can continue to trot out Dunn against LHP (against the best lefty in the majors) without at least shaking things up and a bit and trying someone like DeAza. For all intents and purposes, Dunn's season is beyond salvaging. It will go down in epic proportions as one of the worst ever. Jake Peavy, great job gutting it out. You should only have given up 2 runs in this game, but you had to deal with Dunn over at 1B. Chris Sale...you're the most valuable left-handed reliever in the game today. You just made the Yankees look like an American Legion team the last two innings. Thanks for coming back to life Alexei Ramirez. We need you. And Nick Swisher, if you pulled something like that (laughing in the dugout after the ball Ramirez dropped and he didn't run out), you'd be pulled from the game right on the spot and benched the following game. The Yankees aren't going to keep you around after the conclusion of this season. Good luck on the Padres/Royals/Orioles/Astros/Mariners.

Teahen Vs. Oney on Twitter
QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) This whole Oney thing reminds me of a DJ out here in Phoenix...thought he was untouchable and could say/do whatever he wanted. They found him lying on the floor of Dennys one night....somebody absolutely beat the s*** out him. Oney's gonna piss off the wrong people at some point... Thought you were talking about Dave Wilder at first.

The Physics of Dunn's Swing
Produced? You mean acquired from other organizations or signed like Alexei/Viciedo? Because you can't compare Mauer, Morneau, Michael Cuddyer, Torii Hunter, Jacque Jones (once a very good player), Garza, Denard Span, Baker, Blackburn, Slowey, Wilson Ramos, etc., with what the White Sox have produced from their farm system. Not to mention Santana, the AJ trade, the Eric Milton trade, the Knoblauch trade....all replenishing the farm system with the likes of Bartlett, Punto, Liriano, Nathan, Bonser, etc. From Ordonez/C-Lee/Durham/Buehrle....then Crede/Rowand, it's a barren barren wasteland of destitution and deprivation. Impact talent? Under KW? Beckham? Ramirez? Sale? Santos? Because you can't really count Quentin/Danks/Floyd/Jenks in terms of "producing" them exactly. Not even Santos. And we didn't really develop either Gordon or Chris. They were both with the major league team within a season of being drafted.

JR and KW need to clarify the direction of the "All In"
What was our team ERA during that time? 2.50-2.75? We had to outscore our opponents this month, didn't we? Except for Peavy and Humber, the bullpen and starters have been pretty darned dominant.
-
Teahen Vs. Oney on Twitter
Greg and I just like to repeat that about 300 times per month...only to serve as a diversion from the constant Rios/Dunn/Walker bashing. Except he also likes Ozzie and Pierre. There we go our separate paths.

The Physics of Dunn's Swing
Which we were reminded of again yesterday....by Mr. Miller's ridiculous ecscape-ability to somehow survive against our offense the first 4-5 innings yesterday. As far as Teahen goes, you can't ever find a single positive comment from me on that one. Greg and I from day one...we both watched him day-in and day-out living in the KC market.

The Physics of Dunn's Swing
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) Dude is also making $19 million a year, which means there is no way we would have spent for an Adam Dunn anyway. Cabrera>Dunn/Teahen

JR and KW need to clarify the direction of the "All In"
Why is Princess Leia drinking? Hopefully Carrie Fisher isn't a White Sox fan this season. THE FORCE is not with us.

attendance
Greg, I don't see how you gave up on Buehrle versus Andrew Miller so quickly yesterday. Tonight's game, or Saturday night's, yeah...that's a bit more understandable. Or at least waiting until Quentin and Dunn left the bases loaded. That was undeniably the time to head for the cinemas or swimming pool.

The Physics of Dunn's Swing
Daniels and Epstein I'd have confidence doing better....he very quickly learned after the Danks/McCarthy fiasco and then Chris Young/Adam Eaton/Adrian Gonzalez/Aki Otuska mess. Trading away Francisco Cordero. He started off looking like one of the worst GM's in major league history and quickly learned on the go...with one of the most interesting "non-baseball" backgrounds ever. Good testament to trust the staff underneath you, instead of trying to micromanage everything yourself, like most super egotistical Beane-like GM's who think they walk on water and can never step in shi- because it simply doesn't exist in their world. With our revenue streams, there's no way we couldn't have a comparative level of success with the Giants, Cardinals, Angels, Phillies or Mariners (early 00's). The Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs, those are unfair comparisons. And the Rangers not so long ago were technically bankrupt thanks to Tom Hicks risky real estate buyouts and leveraged buyout of soccer teams.

The Physics of Dunn's Swing
If we had the players in our system, we would have gotten Miguel Cabrera instead of DET. With Cabrera, we don't need Dunn probably, since Konerko would be at 1B (and some DH). Cabrera getting majority of AB's at DH. Or if we had traded Beckham, we'd have Adrian Gonzalez there now. If either of those two things happen, we're leading the AL Central now going away. Last year, you can point quite easily to the Thome swap. Keep him around....deprive him from the Twins when Morneau goes down and they're screwed. They would have had to trade Wilson Ramos for another hitter and then they wouldn't have had a closer down the stretch. Rauch would have been getting battered out there in the 2nd half. Or if we'd kept Chris Young instead of trying to save money on the Javy acquisition (getting money back from the DBacks when we were absolutely FLUSH with cash and season ticket buyers going into 2006), we'd have never needed Alex Rios. Those four things changed the future of this franchise from very bright to pretty so-so. We could have easily survived the Peavy situation if almost any of those four things had happened. Luckily we didn't get Fukudome when we outbid the Cubs for him, or things would have turned out worse (or Hunter, or Rowand). Well....maybe not, because we'd have had a disappointing player instead of still owing Rios $43 million.

8/1 Yankees @ Sox 7:10
But now that he's adopted the Captain Crunch diet, we're really doomed. You can't go wrong with the Captain.

8/1 Yankees @ Sox 7:10
Rios against CC 8/33....3 doubles, 3 HR's, 5 RBI's Chances of that past history having any relevancy on tonight's Rios performance? About ZERO.

The Physics of Dunn's Swing
Fair enough, like Dick Allen defending Walker, it's nice to have a good debate and not just "so and so sucks." And you're right, if we had Dan Evans instead of KW, probably we don't end up hiring Ozzie or putting together the 2004-2005 offseason and our team is now completely irrelevant....like the Astros, Mariners, Orioles, Cubs or Padres. But I really wonder if Alex Rios genuinely spends as much time trying to think of ways to improve as we do writing about it here in our "free time"???

Teahen Vs. Oney on Twitter
Don't forget O-Cab, Swisher and Javy...not to mention Daniel Hudson's not-so-veiled shots at the Sox.
