GT 6/16 Sox @ Yankees 6:05 (CDT)
Already turning on them after one disappointing game? When they've done this without Murakami and Teel? Cole isn't chopped liver. There were always going to be struggles with Braden and Gonzalez.

White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026
SI wrote a full feature article. It's in the Griffin thread. Two un-named teams before pick 9 were strongly discouraged from taking him. One likely was the Angels, who selected Christian Moore instead.

Chicago White Sox Chicago's lone representative last season was right-hander Shane Smith, a Rule 5 pick who became a reliable rotation option. Smith is a great story, but his selection was reflective of the complete lack of other compelling options to choose from. How times have changed. This season's upstart White Sox roster boasts several All-Star candidates, all of whom would be first-timers: rookie sensation Munetaka Murakami, breakout bat Miguel Vargas and emergent ace Davis Martin would be worthy inclusions. Martin all the way up to 3.31...hopefully he still holds onto All Star nod.

It's not like anybody expected second lowest ERA in the AL to Schittler entering the game...or three early walks tonight. Only 18 games at third and no time at first base prior to this season...

The family successfully convinced at least two teams he wasn't going to sign and would go to college...they were only really comfortable with Pirates' scout Mazeroski from the very beginning.

You Never Have Enough Pitching
Unless it's someone like Yamamoto who can almost singlehandedly take over the postseason...Madison Bumgarner in 2014, etc. The problem is huge money for #3-4 pitchers and swingmen.

White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026
Roch Cholowsky had been losing his grip on the No. 1 overall pick for a while, but UCLA's shocking exit from their own Regional -a Regional in which Cholowsky struggled at the plate -seems to have the rumor mill working overtime. This week, The Athletic's Keith Law mocked Georgia Tech catcher Vahn Lackey first off the board to the White Sox, while MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo cited one evaluator who handicapped the race for No. 1 at 40 percent Cholowsky, 40 percent prep shortstop Grady Emerson and 20 percent Lackey. It seems like at this point no one truly knows what Chicago will do, a pretty stunning shift from just a couple of months ago. Cholowsky remains the safest bet, a shortstop with no clear weaknesses in his game who's just about MLB-ready right now. But there are real questions about his ultimate upside, questions that open the door for a two-way catcher like Lackey or a more electric athlete like Emerson - both of whom would likely sign for a smaller bonus that would allow the White Sox to spread their money around a bit more. yahoo.com/sports

Striker Pence, ranked by Baseball America as the No. 1 prospect in the 2028 high school class, announced on Thursday that he is reclassifying to be eligible for the 2027 MLB Draft. Pence is the nephew of 14-year big leaguer and 4-time MLB All-Star Hunter Pence. Jun 5, 2026

SIStriker Pence, Hunter's Nephew, Could Be America's Answer...He’s a 17-year-old Minecraft-loving Knucklehead (his term), but Striker Pence can effortlessly throws 100 mph and dreams more of hitting walk-off bombs.

https://sports.mynorthwest.com/mlb/seattle-mariners/why-baseball-america-ranks-ryan-sloan-as-seattle-mariners-top-pitching-prospect Seattle wouldn't make that trade...even with Anderson's presence. Especially if they can dump Luis Castillo. Proximity to the majors means more to the Mariners right now as well. Bonemer lacks a clear secondary position on the infield where he can be projected at average defensively. A huge aspect of Mariners' recent success has revolved around pitching, speed and defense.

At what point do we start to believe?
Chopping off part of the upper deck seats and roofing it really added to that effect...when it's packed, especially the upper deck.

Anthony has been hurt for most of the season. He's a Top 15-20 mlb talent still, despite the injury...and also with youth in his favor. Harrison and Hamilton/Durbin was even worse.

"Most importantly, Skubal looked more or less like his world-beating self. He threw 19 pitches at 98 mph or harder. His fastball velocity was actually up more than 1 mph on his pre-injury season average (96.6 vs. 97.8). He induced five whiffs on his trademark changeup and three more on his slider. The command was more sufficient than elite, understandable given the context. All that rust will shake off in time." They just don't have the pieces that they're willing to part with like the Dodgers do...or Brewers, but that type of short term move not exactly in their DNA.

Off Day Position Player Dives
Grebeck was tiny in terms of height but had a lot more power although hardly any speed...and was always more of a jack of all trades infielder, rather than an everyday player, due to the superior infield talent on most of those Sox rosters. Exceeding expectations/underdog/dirtbag types is their main commonality. Feels closer to peak Eckstein than Durham...who was such a dynamic speed/power threat in his 20s.

Two GA Tech picks. Interesting. No Thome/Contreras. Just picking on talent alone.
