  2. It will be Elly de la Cruz with McClain moving over to 2B...
  3. Buehrle deal would definitely not been cheap in JR's description of it...he basically told him, or advised him, to go with the Marlins where they would guarantee him more money/years.
  4. But who would the White Sox have even given an extension to, besides Cease? Giolito wasn't worth it after his combined last two seasons and not sure when you would have given it to Kopech where it actually would have been halfway justified. After a relatively successful but not entirely injury-free year out of the bullpen? Before his debut with the Sox? That would have simply provided more justification not to EVER do it, ultimately...along with the Moncada and Jimenez contracts.
  5. Trade him to the Dodgers, or DeJong...just no way that Mookie Betts can handle SS with this little transition time and not have it affect his offense in a negative way. Flipping their double play combination at this late date is something you would expect out of the White Sox, especially when he's played something like 12 starts there his entire MLB career.
  6. That's really going to put some pressure on JR to come up with something like $300-500 milllion between all the investors or they're going to look like a minor league organization in comparison. Obviously, the figures attached to the NFL are in the stratosphere, but it's going to be challenging not to make direct comparisons...outside of franchise values and revenue generated numbers.
  7. Draft all pitchers nearly every year (see Guardians) and make sure you know how to develop them because $100+ free agent deals or even pitching extensions are anathema.
  8. Of course. Shaw with the hanging breaking ball to allow Tom Murphy to walk it off. Did get it up to 96 at age 36. 4-12 record
  9. Prioritizing character at the cost of performance doesn't seem to be the greatest strategy. Maybe it's just me.
  10. For the team to start to legitimately buy into the shift in approach...seeing a change in either individual results or team record would tend to be at least one indicator of some type of positive change. This just feels like more of what was expected...even with the rising positives on the minor league side of things.
  11. Right right. Lewis visibly looked really weak...always had such vitality and self-reflective witticism, especially the standup routines at the heart of his career.
  12. I'd rather have the Rays' front office. Alas, reality.
  13. Amed Rosario also lighting it up for Rays. Another Wilson Betemit or Ryan Sweeney-esque spring training?
  14. A bit surreal watching an episode c recently after Dennis Miller died with jokes about last wills and who would die first and leaving money to each other. First Funkhouser (Dodgers' fan) and now this. Also bizarre how Cheryl Hines (his now ex wife on the show) real life husband Robert Kennedy Jr. might play a significant role in this year's election.
  15. Rays are even kicking in $650 million out of $1.3 billion. HALF.

Checks box score...1 run on 11 hits. Of course. Who would want to miss 3 IP from Chad Kuhl?

    Curb Your Enthusiasm nod?
  18. I mean...we know it will likely be at least 7-8 guys. Not sure how many will actually deserve it, though.
  19. How finishing as the worst team in 1954 and a Branch Rickey/Getz connection led to a HoF career... "Anyway, I recently read somewhere that Clemente was the only bonus player immediately sent to the minors and thus left unprotected. I can't confirm if that's true, but Clemente was now eligible for the Major-Minor League Rule 5 Selection Committee. The Pirates, with the worst record in the National League, had the first pick. They were run by former Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey, and scouts Howie Haak and Clyde Sukeforth -- brought to Pittsburgh from Brooklyn by Rickey -- had seen Clemente during the International League season. Branch Rickey Jr. represented the Pirates at the draft and selected Clemente. The price: $4,000. And that's how the Pirates stole Roberto Clemente from the Dodgers. As a footnote: When Branch Rickey Sr. finally saw Clemente play for the first time in the Winter League after the Pirates drafted him, he was not impressed, remarking on Clemente's timid play on the bases and in the field and his disappointing foot speed. Rickey did admit, however, that the kid had a good throwing arm. Clemente had to spend the entire 1955 season on the Pirates' roster since he originally signed for more than $6,000; he hit just .255 with a .284 OBP and a .382 slugging percentage, plus five home runs, in 474 at-bats. While he hit .311 the next season, he hit just 26 home runs his first five seasons and didn't have his breakout season at the plate until 1960, when he was 25 and his power finally developed." https://www.espn.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/62869/how-the-pirates-stole-roberto-clemente-from-the-dodgers

    Sosa?
  22. Cuban Connection wipes out White Sox order with 95-97 mph fastballs...three consecutive K's.
  23. But also nobody you could confidently say as of today they would surely be on the 2027 Sox roster with any level of confidence. Maybe Montgomery.
  24. Buy low sell high lol.
