White Sox showing interest in Michael Lorenzen reports Ken Rosenthal
Not sure which is more embarrassing, the Benintendi deal for the franchise OR Fedde being the biggest contract of Getz's GM career. Doesn't augur well, since Jeff Keppinger was one of the first of Hahn's regime.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Did I need to highlight the SE Asian spelling of Hahn twice in that previous paragraph I was reacting to? Didn't think it was as challenging as Buehrle or Robert, Jr. Never mind.

Grade the Cease trade
Separate category for Baltimore homers, of course.

3/14 Angels @ Sox
Somehow have a feeling Grifol loves the idea of all these vets closer to his own age surrounding him in the clubhouse...
-
3/14 Angels @ Sox
Seems like the Dodgers and Orioles leading RS/RA must be a complete coincidence...there is certainly some correlation, albeit not nearly as much as regular season play. In a season like this...any somewhat positive indicators are something to be lukewarmly excited about.
-
3/14 Angels @ Sox
White Sox have now passed 7 teams in the RS/RA rankings this week. Currently -13 as of right now.

Haven't even seen that name connected to a rotation spot yet...not even once.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Shouldn't he betting big money on Holliday winning RoY somewhere or maybe genuflecting at the Enrique Bradfield Shrine?

Even the Vietnamese version of Hanh can't be any worse than the real one...

Kopech to the Bullpen
Leasure Kopech Wilson...maybe Berroa or Iriarte if they don't make it as starters. Feels too early for Nastrini. Probably get more Shaw instead.

Is it too early to wish to start the Getz watch?
Jay Gatsby...? https://theathletic.com/5325414/2024/03/14/mlb-franchise-rankings-wild-card-era/?source=freedailyemail&campaign=601983&userId=310262 White Sox 17th most successful franchise from 1995-2023...mired in mediocrity, pretty much. Almost feels too high now.

Gore has clearly disappointed...but he's not Michael Kopech exactly, either. It now all comes down to CJ Abrams continuing to progress and most especially James Wood. Hassell has definitely gone backwards as a top prospect.

Cease To Padres per Passan
And the Brewers are in a completely different situation, by the way...retooling on the fly versus a total rebuild after Robert is traded. Just expect to get a lot of crap if Ortiz and Hall are total flops for Milwaukee. Undoubtedly the last Cease ST start and Cole news amped up expectations...as well as Rangers Padres Giants involvement. Did you go to Yankees' boards and provoke them too this week?

Pretty sure he went into collegiate coaching already...somewhere in the Midwest.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Johan Santana was far from dominant with the fastball. Tom Glavine would be yet another that comes to mind.
-
Cease To Padres per Passan
Yeah, he definitely could amp it up in to the mid 90's when needed, but usually sat at 91-93 with all those sinkers.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Except they didn't get Snelling or Lesko either...all these teams involved in potential deals with Cease basically holding back their Top 4 prospects.

Padres trying to cut salary anywhere they possibly can to stay as close to $200 million payroll...

If Mena's really in the mid 90's on a consistent basis, it's pretty hard to bet against him proving the White Sox wrong...something almost everyone traded the last two decades comes around to do at some point down the line. But you have those two guys, the noted upside concerns with Gonzalez, even Burger had more than his share of flaws but sheer will/determination helped him to overcome a number of those negatives (without much if any help from the team itself).

B-/C+ for White Sox A-/B+ for Padres (fits perfectly within a limited budget and they don't have to give up any of their main farm assets...can continue to cut salaries/trade Cease if things continue to go south, so two years is really about the back end of their current "window" without re-initiating another rebuild behind Tatis, Jr. and their still Top 10ish farm system) Needed to get either Head or DeVrieze to really tip the balance...also, let's see what, if anything, they can get for Steven Wilson at midseason. Iriarte not being a reliever and Zavala sticking in CF are two of the obvious keys to consider.
