3/15 vs Cubs
Jim Callis looks unhappy lol... Higher on Caissie and Busch. 7 games now cancelled....interestingly, Mariners/Padres Prospects game listed as postponed instead. SF and Oakland lost their prospects game as well.

3/15 vs Cubs
Marquee still has those three announcers on (one woman) talking about Noah Schultz...even though he want scheduled to pitch in this one.

3/15 vs Cubs
Sigh....was looking forward to Horton vs. Montgomery, and seeing how Gonzalez looked offensively.

ST Thread
Via Merkin On Crochet bring a rotation candidate or even OD starter? "That’s a different question, one Crochet wouldn’t commit to after throwing three scoreless innings on Thursday. “I’m in a good place building up and we’ll kind of see when camp ends. The competition is still very much ongoing,” Crochet said. “I’m kind of trying to keep passing the test they are throwing my way and make it a tough decision for them in the end.” “He's on his way to do whatever is needed,” Katz said. “He's in a good place and we don't need to add or do anything different to what we've been doing.” Crochet has just 73 total innings in the Majors over three seasons as a reliever. So, the White Sox will need to be watchful with his usage and how he recovers from each start."

3/15 vs Cubs
He did...with the Nationals.

Can the Sox field a competitive team in 2025? Or is 2026 or beyond a better target?
C now, but definitely B-ish coming off those numbers in KC and NY.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Braves sent two pitchers who quickly went down in ST for Kelenic...
-
Grade the Cease trade
The one he took isn't nearly as powerful as most...and it certainly doesn't help someone to make contact with a baseball. If he's closer to 800-850 again, it would be hard to argue he's on steroids still. He put all those pinball numbers up with a permanently recurring shoulder popping in and out of place due to repeated dislocations.
-
Cease To Padres per Passan
And the speed differential between the two pitches narrowed, presumably. From 10-12 mph, closer to 7-9.
-
Cease To Padres per Passan
It was always about his height and extension...yes? Because the fastball always looked 2-3 MPH faster simply due to how long he was and how many milliseconds less the batter had to react to the pitch...think he was somewhere in the Top 5 or Top 10 for this category in all of MLB.

Cease To Padres per Passan
You're starting to sound like my law firm, lol. Never mind. Puerto Rico it is. Have already done the whole SA/Austin/Alamo/Riverwalk thing but now with a family to see it. Still get to see White Sox at Rangers on Monday, July 22nd in that mausoleum-like stadium. Thankfully out of the heat.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Aren't you or weren't you in Texas relatively recently? Texas A&M? (Maybe Texsox will chime in as well.) If you had 5-6 days (one week in Plano/Dallas, July 11-23 is timeframe), would you drive back and forth to San Antonio for another 5-6 day trip OR back and forth to Puerto Rico if cost wasn't a consideration? Just curious...

Cease To Padres per Passan
Stiever's really still a thing? Thought he was completely out of the picture at this point. You also have Iriarte/Berroa that could start or relieve, in theory. Also, what about Deivi Garcia? Seems as if he might be one of the next guys in line for the rotation who has pitched well this spring.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Crochet as opener...

The Jarred Kelenic Appreciation Thread
Mariners not with the greatest luck if you include Gregory Santos injury issues as well...
-
Grade the Cease trade
He also became a Gold Glover in RF with very little transition time...the only question to answer is if he's a 959 ops guy going forward vs. 825-875ish. Almost 1 1/2 years off due to surgeries rehab suspensions and that position change probably played a role in his decline offensively last year. Compared to those Dodgers' deals...no longer would be considered super high risk.

Still don't think Melania cares about anything but staying 50 feet or more away from her husband...

Sox speaking about bringing back Clevinger
See Grandal...basically.
-
Grade the Cease trade
Location/weather. Stadium/facilities. Surrounding entertainment district, etc. Not sure how much the overhang from all those existing big-money contracts would be...particularly Bogaerts, Machado and Cronenworth.
-
Sox speaking about bringing back Clevinger
Don't think Greinke would have any interest in ending his career with the White Sox on a non-contender after all the drama over the years and some of the comments he has made (unless he was REALLY close with any/some of other ex-Royals staffers). Likely would prefer to retire as a Royal, IMO.
-
Sox speaking about bringing back Clevinger
NO NO NO. If the club REALLY cares about character like they've been saying all off-season...if not, go Bauer, Clevinger, Lorenzen etc. and throw JD Martinez in there as well and make a last-ditch attempt to remain sort of competitive for the sake of the handful of fans still looking for meaningful Sox baseball this season. (Which would undoubtedly backfire spectacularly.) Of course, the second issue is this re-orientation around speed and defense and athleticism holds less water with Cease traded...although it's pretty clear other than Moncada/JImenez that they'll chart a course of attempting to dump/rebrand every possible pitcher than can for a slew of B and C Tier prospects. Thus, making those pitchers look as good as possible statistically is still the first priority of 2024.
-
Grade the Cease trade
Musgrove and Darvish (37)...maybe Bogaerts...not if he's 100% healthy like the last 6-8 weeks of the 2023 season, but he will age and isn't really even a legit SS anymore. Value is severely depressed at any position other than 2B/SS. Cronenworth...the worst of the contracts for now (partly due to age), especially if he never comes close to his 2022 numbers and looks more like 2023 and a 1B instead of a legit versatile utility guy. They will still need him to replace HaSeong Kim in 2024, though...likely at 2B with Bogaerts or Merrill or him at 2B/1B. Assumption for now must be Merrill moving from outfield back to natural SS position. Machado....another bad/aging contract if he ends up more at 1B/DH than 3B.

Kopech to the Bullpen
Plus there's no tie between making Kopech somehow look decent at some point like there was with Hahn after the Sale trade. Probably just best to move on here, change of scenery flip maybe at some point with another team who thinks they can still get something out of him (like the Matt Thornton deal with Seattle for Borchard.)
