  1. Is that related to the Wonder Girls?
  2. Could a normal RFer have made that play on Witt triple?
  3. Feel sorry for fans of AL East teams other than Tampa this summer...they must look at the Central standings and go crazy out of jealousy that .500 gets oyou to the postseason.
  4. If they had actually beaten the Twins in the finale...they could have been just 4 1/2 games back after tonight. That's just crazy... ofc, Detroit and CLE in the way too.
  5. Trading Robert and then him finally realizing his potential elsewhere would be another way for Hahn to get fired...potentially.
  6. Giolito's going to be one of the Top 2-3 starters on the market at this rate. Ohtani Urias Nola and Snell all might not be moved for various reasons...
  7. Only 6.5 or 7.5 games back after tonight.
  8. What's the name of that Latin American pitcher for KC that totally dominated the Sox the last two seasons (especially 2020-21) but struggles with everyone else? Pretty good raw stuff but questionable command... Hernandez?
  9. That New Jersey upbringing of his...so easy to think of him as this mellow West Coast dude because of all his time with the Angels, instead of a hardcore Philly sports fan.
  10. Predicted start time yet? Just the 835-845 pm prediction by some meteorologist online?
  11. Simply because he's a contemporary of those other two players and would have easily slotted into the RF spot had they not been pinning all their hopes and aspirations on Oscar Colas. Similar salaries/contracts across the board...not far off each other in age, Yoshida obviously the oldest and most likely eventually a full time DH, but not for another year or two. Finally, the risk of not thinking outside the box and/or the lack of Pacific Rim scouts and seemingly never looking at Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese players...other than Tanaka at one point. (Pretty clearly that money, Point 2, instead was allocated towards paying younger players their ongoing extensions and then all the veterans...Hendriks, Lynn, the Grandal deal ongoing, bullpen/utility guys, Keuchel and finally Benintendi/Clevinger.) Finally, the Cubs are looking at being a legit player for Ohtani, and those two players could play key roles in recruiting/cheerleading this offseason (Yoshida to Bos). So leverage for a once in a generation talent in Shohei, like Friends and Family, Jay/Alonso. Odds are still higher that he goes to Dodgers, Angels, Mets or Yankees. Giants, have money but competitiveness? Padres if they give up on extending Soto and instead turn around and trade him or, much less likely, Machado. Mariners and Rangers, outside shots. Ichiro legacy in Seattle and formerly owned by Nintendo. Rangers spending like mad to catch up with Astros in same state.
  12. https://www.mlb.com/news/masataka-yoshida-turnaround-metrics Guess we can add Gallo (decent) and Conforto (terrible after the long layoff) to the list... but they are more known for RF than left.
  13. Well, since they have no choice but to field a AAA team...I guess the only thing that really matters is whether Charlotte ownership gets so frustrated they want to give up their affiliation agreement because the talent provided is so depressing. That doesn't seem likely for now... they still have those three minor league teams lumped together in the Carolinas with Birmingham just a stone's throw away. Of course AAA and AA are still 75-80% about marketing and promotion, with the remaining percentage being winning baseball. To the big league franchises... development almost always comes first over fielding playoff contending affiliates, but it does hurt on the margins if losing starts to go on year after year after year with no end in sight. However, Crochet, Moncada, Eloy and Liam will bring some relief though. Seeing a rehabbing Tim Anderson, for example.
  14. Last lefty reliever the Sox completely turned around was Matt Thornton. Damaso Marte before him.
  15. Simply replacing Garrett Cleavinger, who just hurt his right ACL. "Over those 13 outings, Diekman allowed 14 runs — 10 earned — on 11 hits while he walked 13 and struck out 11, facing a total of 58 hitters. Although he is in the twilight of his career, Diekman still features a fastball in the upper 90’s that he mixes with a sweeper and a change-up. Thus far in 2023, his change-up usage has surged compared in year’s past and he hasn’t enjoyed much success while throwing the pitch; meanwhile, he is depending less on his sweeper and fastball." Bet you start seeing more sweepers cutters and sinkers/two seam fastballs.
  16. Should we also be thanking Hahn for not resigning Jose Abreu...the tradeoff in years and money were basically cancelled out by making Benintendi into a rebuild albatross, though.
  17. Alex Call 654, Benintendi 649. Actually has improved his defense from last year, -2.3 in both categories. 0.0 fWAR. Last year +13.6 on offense and 2.8 fWAR. Comps to Pollock/Peralta fall off continue, albeit still only 28.
  18. Yikes, Naylor Gimenez and Rosario all at the bottom statistically... although Josh with some clutch RBIs recently. Former Sox targets Michael Conforto and Jean Segura near the bottom as well... Jose Abreu next to worst qualified OPS in the game. Amazing in a bad way. Segura occupying the current bottom. Guardians should have traded Amed Rosario for a haul heading into his walk year...in retrospect, that's easy to say now, ofc.
  19. Now is the ultimate test for Kelenic. He's finally made the needed adjustments in his game and they've seemingly stuck. Can he sustain it out over 3-4 months or even a full season? Where will advance scouts decide to attack his swing this time? 1.2 fWAR and slightly negative on defense (-0.5)...so his bat will obviously have to carry him.
  20. ChatGPT tomfoolery...he wanted to promote Peralta and Remillard the other day like it was going to immediately transform the world based on AAA numbers. And Victor Lopez. Doesn't seem he understands baseball very well at all.
  21. Burdi to Sox? Cash considerations. Diekman and international $$$ for Gordon Beckham long term contract to announce?
