  1. On the other hand, Anderson clearly comes with more upside, having hit .318/.347/.474 from 2019-22. Although the two-time All-Star missed 18 games early this season with a left knee sprain and has struggled to get going since then, he still boasts a 90th-percentile expected batting average, while making hard contact as often as ever. The main issue has been going from a ground ball hitter to the most extreme ground ball hitter in the sport. Even a modest adjustment -- perhaps with the Dodgers’ help -- could make Anderson a difference maker in the NL West race and into October. And with an affordable 2024 club option ($14 million), Anderson would also bolster L.A.’s depth next season, providing insurance in case Lux encounters any setbacks returning to full strength. The White Sox still have a shot in the weak AL Central, but if the team ends up selling, the Dodgers and their No. 2-ranked farm system would make for a nice match. https://www.mlb.com/news/ideal-mlb-trade-deadline-moves-2023
  2. Well, that result was pretty much inevitable as soon as the grand salami landed. Good luck getting anything back for Lopez.
  3. Vaughn on pace for at least 20-25 homers. Spent the first 6-8 weeks being questioned whether he'd even get 10 all season long. DODGERS HAVE TO TRADE FOR STARTING PITCHING. See White Sox, Chicago.
  4. Burger up to a .918 OPS. Shades of Moncada 2019, lol...
  5. Hahaha....I got off the tourist bus with then g/f in the middle of the countryside south of Medellin, Colombia and tuned into that precise half inning via the internet/MLB Gameday Audio.
  6. Or Mendick...
  7. 1) Giolito/Anderson 2) Lynn 3) Kelly/Middleton/Graveman...maybe Hendriks if he can prove he's healthy. Big big IF.
  8. That he's not even in the Top 20 for AL outfielders tells you a lot about his national name recognition...White Sox home attendance...and how poorly he has been marketed. Especially considering he has to be no worse than the co-favorite with Kiermaier for the AL Gold Glove and so many highlights already this year on the defensive side, not to mention his absolute homer tear about about a month ago.
  9. At least Robert continues to put together his best overall (hopefully full) season...
  10. Why is Sheets hitting 2nd? Totally randomized order spit out by an algorithm? Take the hitter in the biggest slump and stick in there just to snap him out of it, somehow?
  11. https://sports.yahoo.com/dodgers-flawed-roster-team-help-120020310.html
  12. Grove has been terrible for the Dodgers so far...basically, the anti-Miller. Probably means a shutout for LA. Could be anywhere from 4 1/2 to 6 1/2 games back at the end of the day.
  13. Definitely not. That requires getting all three outs in a hostile playoff atmosphere on the road, lol. Oakland crowd barely 7000ish for a day game.
  14. They were one of our "charitable umbrella benefactors" when I worked as a program director for a national non-profit from 1998-2002. Good group of people.
  15. The biggest question is whether you can move on with Robert, Cease and Kopech as the heart of the team...and how much that even makes sense with latter two getting closer and closer to FA. It would be one thing if you actually believed that if Robert continues to improve they'll sign him to a massive extension, but that's just not the White Sox style. So what would they be building towards, exactly? 2025 back to competitiveness again? Just one season? That just seems nearly impossible unless someone like Jonathan Cannon going through a meteoric, Daniel Hudson or Brandon McCarthy-esque climb to the major leagues by some point in the 2nd half of 2024.
  16. San Antonio/Austin corridor is one of the most interesting with all the population movement from California to Texas and with numerous tech companies relocating there as well. Three cities in Texas would start to get a bit crowded. HIstorically, Portland and Salt Lake City have had very successful minor league operations in the 80's and 90's, at least one of those new/expansion cities is going to have to be in the west and either would seem a better option than LV. Unless they count Austin as "west," which is perfectly plausible.
  17. Yes, at least that's for a charitable, 501c3 organization that's been pretty well-regarded for decades now.
  18. File in the Fegan thread...not enough interest surrounding any aspect of the White Sox. Or more like apathy/general malaise.
  19. He's not... but he HAS TO BE for the White Sox to actually compete. That ship has probably long since sailed with a tough schedule to get through here and the Twins beating up on the Tigers. 8-9 games back heading into July is certainly a bad enough position to force some dramatic cutbacks to the payroll. They might even play better with younger, hungrier players... unfortunately, not enough that are ALSO talented coming up to replace the veterans.
  20. Kimbrel now ten saves for the Phillies, 4.67 ERA Dodgers' pen in relative shambles.
  21. Diekman created a no out bases loaded situation against the A's in a tie game late but escaped with a DP ball and then another reliever took out Rooker to preserve the tie. Now 4-3 Rays late. ERA down to 5.64.
  22. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jake-burger/22275/stats?position=3B/DH Burger's defensive numbers have definitely improved in 2023. 24 homers in 399 career MLB at bats now. Still hanging in there at 1.2 fWAR versus Moncada at 0.2.
  23. Giolito would be 3rd choice, or Hendriks in particular, if strictly about feel good stories for the media...well, sort of, now that he's out again. Has to be Burger (best combination of Cinderella story and performance) or Robert IMO.
  24. Contract was through the of the season but decided to make Friday last day since he will getting paid through then and can use free time now to pursue new opportunities. Even had air tickets and hotel for Dodgers trip but decided not to go just to say goodbye to all the players and staff...didn't really like talking about himself or hearing plaudits coming his way. Kind of felt like two deaths getting fired and also praised repetitively but that's still not enough to save his job. Didn't watch Lynn start because it's hard for him not to watch like he's going to write a story and follow-up Q's in Google docs. Only about 50-60% of MLB markets have beat writers now with The Athletic. Garfien went over his three firings in five years and Fegan's shared similar story from his time with a South Bend newspaper that was bought out. Seemed a bit frustrated and emotionally drained wondering if there was anything he could have realistically done as a writer in the face if this White Sox season. Cried a lot on Monday morning. Numbers just weren't there to justify his existence. Seems like his wife has a solid job so not at a total loss. Ruminated on getting to this point at 36 despite being pretty fatalistic about the future of print/sports journalism from the very beginning when just starting out at 22. Talked about progression from blogging 2010-2016 in order to improve his writing to the point where it became a full time career.
