Kim Ng: "I called up my man Kenny Williams and got it done"
Miami’s GM Kim Ng went on Marlins Radio during Wednesday night’s game to discuss her team’s newest additions. When talking about her deal with the White Sox specifically, Ng shared that Executive VP Kenny Williams was a key point of contact. She cited their good friendship and her previous tenure with the organization as being beneficial in conversations between the two sides. “The time was ticking on the clock in terms of getting a deal done,” Ng said. “We probably had a handful of deals that we thought were there or close to being there. But we really felt that we had to get one locked in. So at that point, we decided to go with Mr. Burger. Called Kenny Williams, got that one done in the books.” “Not too many deals between the Marlins and White Sox over the years, I saw,” broadcaster Kyle Sielaff added. “Not too many, but considering I’m an alumni of that group,” Ng added with a smile. “Had a pretty good relationship with Kenny.”

Fire Rick Hahn
We shouldn't just talk about Hahn from now on like he doesn't exist...maybe he will step down but likely still cashing those checks.

Rick Hahn Special "The Royals’ return for Nicky Lopez Not that anybody is viewing the utilityman Lopez as the darling of this Deadline, but there was no stranger trade return than the Royals trading Lopez, a good defender under control through 2025, to the Braves for a 28-year-old lefty reliever in Taylor Hearn, who comes with the same years of control and was just designated for assignment by the Rangers on July 19 ... and therefore available to the Royals at the time for cash." mlb.com

We can blame KW and Paddy specifically for Quero, the Yankees' 1B and Patino. Hahn looked and sounded like that was the first time he'd ever tried to pronounce Quero when he got up to the podium to make the announcement.

Sox acquire Luis Patino from Rays for cash
"Age: 23 2022 Stats: 6 G, 6 GS, 20.0 IP, 26 H (6 HR), 11 K, 13 BB, 8.10 ERA Contract Status: Under club control through 2026 Why the Risk Is Low Luis Patiño was the Tampa Bay Rays' big prize in the trade that sent 2018 American League Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell to the San Diego Padres in Dec. 2020. To wit, MLB.com had him ranked as the No. 23 prospect in the minor leagues. Patiño has struggled to live up to the hype, especially in 2022. He sustained an oblique injury in April and never got back on track afterward. Heading into 2023, he's been relegated to a depth option for the Rays rotation. Why the Reward Is High There isn't a whole lot on Patiño's major league record worth getting excited about, as his 5.10 ERA over 114.2 career innings comes paired with too few strikeouts (106) and too many walks (56) and home runs (21). Still, it would be folly to write off Patiño while he's still only 23 years old and has lightning in his arm. He's gotten his fastball as high as 100.3 mph in the majors, and his slider as high as 89.8 mph. As Patiño is listed at a slender 6'1", 192 pounds, whether he can sustain stuff like that in a starting role remains a good question. But at the least, other teams can dream of him as a potential weapon in a relief role." bleacherreport.com

Sox acquire Luis Patino from Rays for cash
"He's been dealt a tough hand this year for a 22-year-old kid, from the short spring training, to getting hurt and then dealing with the blister and coming back up here,'' Rays pitching coach Kyle Snyder said Sunday. "He's never been hurt, and you have to deal with all the psychological issues of that, too. This is all new to him. He's never had to deal with any of this before, and we all have to remember that he's very, very young. "It's really hard to deal with all of this at the major-league level, too, because there's a whole other level of stress when you're here, trying to get big-league hitters out and winning games when you're on a team trying to win like we are.'' https://www.si.com/mlb/rays/news/tom-brew-my-two-cents-important-remember-tampa-bay-rays-starter-luis-patino-just-22-years-old

Just nicely played a short hop into a DP...applauded by former teammate and WS winner Cueto. Early feedback is that he's much more athletic than anyone thought. Johnny with a 4.95 ERA that came a lot cheaper than Lynn's 6+. Marlins' broadcast just mentioned JB Shuck and Emilio Bonifacio lol...
