Thanks a lot. That's awfully nice of ya. Now I'm heading out of work for some Chicken Smashers at Cheddar's with the family. Thanks again.

Thanks a lot. Yeah, 31 years today. Miraculously enough, I still have both original hips!

I worry about my 2 year old son a lot. Too much. So much so that sometimes I worry that my worrying about him is not just parental concern but a sort of premonition. Anyways, I'll sit at work sometimes thinking about that and well up. My deepest sympathies to you, YASNY. As for songs or movies, the song Cat's In the Cradle used to make me cry as a kid, but not anymore. I cried a little bit when Jimmy Smits' character died on NYPD Blue. Scenes of loved ones watching someone die always hits me hard.

Two Of Us, Across The Universe, Dig It, and One After 909 are all excellent tunes. I've got to create a tape of my favorite Beatles songs. Last time I did that was way back in college when I didn't appreciate their later stuff like I should have.

Damn. I hoped it was a request to pass his resume' around youth baseball leagues, but I guess this is for the best. Wouldn't want him tainting America's youth with uninspired baseball.

40,000 White Sox fans that wanted the experience of seeing a team celebrate clinching a division championship on the field. Of course, the Yankees may not do that, seeing as they go to the playoffs every season.

Well, I don't know about that. IIRC, he accepted responsibility for his crappy start. That's honorable, but I would've rather had some more RBIs from him instead. Speaking of RBIs, didn't he have like 16 at the AS break? He truly had one of the worst halves of baseball that I've ever had the misfortune of witnessing. Yuck!

Eh, I think Crede gave us all we had a right to expect from him. He was more than solid at third and his offensive numbers are very solid, especially if you consider that this was his first full season in the bigs. To expect the same sort of production as he gave us the end of last season isn't realistic, IMHO. I'd give him a B.

The original grades are too high, if for no other reason than I coldn't imagine what they'd be if the team actually won 90 or more games. A team as disappointing as this one must have more than a few grades below B. If not, how would the '27 Yankees have graded out!?

Your leaders need two main qualities. They must be good players and winning must be high on their priority list. This is the case with Everett and not the case with the Sox's two main "leaders" Konerko and Valentin. Konerko hit like .195 the first half and Valentin has been about .230 all season. Konerko has never seen a microphone he didn't like and Valentin only cares about home runs. For JM to punish a guy like Everett is truly sickening. Wherever Everett ends up I wish him well. Perhaps he'll stick it to Manuel, assuming that donkey is still in the White Sox dugout. I know I'll be rooting for him.

Wow, I'm embarrased to say this, but I always thought that Corwin Malone was white. It doesn't really matter, but was surprised to see his picture. Guess I should do some more research on White Sox prospects!

Hocking an dPierzynski on ESPN Radio...
IlliniBob72 replied to Bighurt52235's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wouldn't hold that against whomever said it. I've said a lot of things out of frustration, and there was plenty to be frustrated about in that series. At least whoever said it cares some. I hope it was Everett. -
My favorite Seinfeld line. Well, there's two... "My name is George, I'm unemployed and I live with my parents" "Well hello. I'm Veronica" and... SERENITY NOW!!!!!!!

I think back in the early '80s or late '70s they would have the broadcast teams switch in portions of the game. Harry Caray and Piersoll would do half the game on TV and then do the other half on the radio. Don't know who the other team was at all. I think this was way back when the Sox were on Channel 44. Does anyone else remember something like this or am I hallucinating?

Ray Knight is also Mr. Nancy Lopez, if I'm not mistaken. (LPGA golfer for you youngsters out there.)

I only had a few minutes before the end of my lunch break, but I too love the Beatles. Here're my Top Ten 10. Happy Birthday 9. Eight Days A Week 8. In My Life 7. Here Comes The Sun 6. Paperback Writer 5. Dear Prudence 4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps 3. Two Of Us 2. Something 1. Tomorrow Never Knows

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate thread, but here goes. Valentin is usually called a team leader and this reason is why he should be brought back. I call bulls*** on that. This team has been a disappointment and a leader of a disappointing team isn't worth having around. I think if the team wants a leader, a new and real leader, they should bring back Everett. He has shown true fire and seems to know how to win, even if he couldn't whip these sad sacks into winners in the 2 months he was given. I think we could find any decent SS to hit .225 for the year. Everett should be brought back because this team needs a winning leader.

Thanks for the info.

What incident is being refered to? Would someone be kind enough to provide a link to the original post? Thanks.

Wasn't the country heading for a recession before Bush took office? Isn't it out of one as we speak? Hasn't this little thing about the war on terrorism and 9-11 had any sort of impact on the economy and consumer confidence?

I read some of this site and it is very intriguing. That being said, he is most likely a fake. If family is so close and so meaningful, why would he spend a year here posting in an internet message board away from his "tight family unit". Also, Last I checked, Omaha is a fairly substantial city. Wouldn't it have been nuked? I feel kind of silly for trying to think of clues that he's a fraud, but he DOES seem like he knows what he's talking about.

I agree with all but point 3. IMO, Garland was not the option last night. Starting pitchers have a routine on their scheduled start. Telling Garland 1 to 2 hours prior to the game and then sending him out to toe the rubber could have been devastating. Maybe I'm wrong, but knowing how quirky some starting pitcher are about their game day routines, Jon wouldn't have been in the right mindset. Just my opinion, of course. Jon's a professional. He should come to the ballpark everyday with the mindset that he is starting. That goes for EL, BC, MB, and whoever our number 5 is from week-to-week. Sorry, it doesn't work that way, not with starting pitchers. Everyday players, yes. Starting pitchers, no. I'm not a starting pitcher but I have a routine I go through before work everyday. I'm sure starting pitchers do too..... whether they are starting or not. Otherwise, what's the sense of having them in uniform, in the dugout, every game? They're not in the dugout every game. Many times they'll send them to the next city the day before the team, for the sole purpose of getting ready. Sounds like it's a process that's not easily altered.

Nope. We got butt-Foulked by KW (like always) with his personal trade for Botch. But he's an aggressive GM trading for more offense when, it should be clear after 2002, that offense isn't going to win you any Championships. Maybe it'll get through his thick melon when the White Sox don't make the postseason this year either. That's funny. I thought the Sox had arguably the best top 4 in the rotation in the league. Half of them were added by KW just this past off season. Then everyone has said over and over again that the Sox have a very strong bullpen, mainly because of Flash Gordon and the addition of Scott Sullivan. It appears the main reason the Sox might lose is because of a lack of offense, but you rag on KW for trying to add more offense??? Strange.

Wow, that's quite a conspiracy theory there. Is the owner in Major League now in Chicago?
