  1. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) The Sox sweetned their initial offer and guaranteed Ayala's eventual college education if he signed now. That closed the deal. Like it - way to get creative and get it done. I haven't seen the post-AJP catcher in our system to this point, or I'm a long way from sold on any particular guy at any rate - maybe this is the guy. We gotta bring AJ back for two more years, no matter what.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 06:49 PM) Humber was supposed to start for the Barons tonight, but the game's already in nearly a one hour delay. Theoretically, he was going to be able to return on the 17th (next Tuesday) against the Tigers. If he doesn't get the game in tonight, they're going to have to move him to another affiliate tomorrow or keep him with the Barons depending on the weather forecast to keep him on regular rest. Postponed, which sucks.
  3. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) Whatever happened to that kid SS, Silviero or something like that? I think he was 16 when they signed him a few years ago, but it was still under the Wilder regime so he may have been another fraud. Is he still in the organization? If so, is he considered a prospect? He's at WS http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?p...&pid=534649 Bat may play, but apparently can't field a position.
  4. I think we'll know if Humber is the starter next Tuesday or not based on his performance tonight. I'll be checking the Gameday frequently.
  5. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 01:55 PM) Everyone ignores Ryan Kussmaul. Three years in the system, moving right up the ladder from Kanny to Dash to Barons. Always solid numbers, low hits per inning, lots of K's. He'll be at Charlotte next year and will prob do well. He gets people out. If Petrika or Johnson or Soptic had his numbers even at lower levels, you would have them ready for HOF indoctrination. Agree on Kussmaul. His numbers say he's a bullpen prospect, though I know nothing about his stuff. 25 at AA - should be tested at AAA soon.
  6. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) What happens to the AL and NL then? Obviously my four divisions idea in each league will never happen. And it appears as if the wildcard is here to stay (and to give Selig credit, it does give those outsider teams a chance which is good for baseball). Just wish that 1 game wild card game was a 3 game series. Also in this years playoff format in the divisional round the first two home games will be awarded to the lower seed and the next 3 games will be awarded to the higher seed. I hope they fix that for the 2013 season. Yeah, I agree that this is the glaring problem with the new system. To play 162 just to get 1 more really seems like a waste, and the loser of that game won't really feel like they were a "playoff" team in the end.
  7. There was a brand "Kettle Cooked" made in Canton, IL, that were available in Peoria and nearby locales. Still in business? They were delicious. EDIT: Actually think the brand is called "Kitchen Cooked" http://www.kitchencooked.net/about-us
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) And SSS pretty well demolishes the "not robin" theory. http://www.southsidesox.com/2012/7/11/3150...ficiency-expert So much for the "not an instructional league" BS. Another Ozzie platitude to cover for his laziness.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 11:32 PM) How has he mismanaged that club? Heath Bell has been ridiculously bad. A team w/out a closer is in trouble. A team w/o a closer changes said closer, regardless of what he's being paid, before an entire season is trashed. This is obvious to all but you, and Ozzie.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 07:58 AM) Holy god, my brain hurts after reading that pathetic attempt to save Ozzie. Ozzie isn't a details guy. He, himself stated he didn't believe in drill, rather he felt that just talking about them would suffice. Ventura comes in, and starts working on drills, and the team gets better at them, yet it wasn't Ozzie or Robins fault? This clown needs to work for a political campaign because he has no shame. Totally. What a waste of my last two minutes. The current players will say plenty about the previous circus without invoking the clown's name.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 12:05 PM) With Heath going down, it isn't going to be Humber coming back. Crain will have put in enough DL time to come back however. QUOTE The Birmingham Barons and Chicago White Sox have announced that RHP Philip Humber will make a rehab start for the Barons during the team's Wednesday, July 11th home game against the Tennessee Smokies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT. Humber would still be on track to start next Tuesday the 17th, as the 5th starter after the break, if it goes well in B'Ham.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisBA RT @BAHighSchool: #WhiteSox signed Sammy Ayala for $258,800. Calif HS C went in 17th rd. Physical w/ plus arm, good pop. #mlbdraft Pretty nice get for the White Sox here. I didn't think he was signing. Awesome.
  13. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 04:43 AM) i believe that is because he never pitched. Wanted to see him, slightly bummed. Likely in Sept I guess, maybe sooner.
  14. Paulie seems older cause he's been about the slowest player in baseball for going on ten years.
  15. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 04:55 PM) Carlos Sanchez, our Futures Game rep, is now playing. Hit a double to LF in his first AB. Sanchez is a little guy, but is well put together. Kind of an Iguchi-like build. I can see him him developing moderate power. Hopefully he sticks in middle-infield.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) Are you talking about the Indians? Agreed. Not nearly our worst loss, not even close. Doesn't even make me bummed out heading into the break. We're going to come out smokin'!
  17. Youk's health is no certainty, but how much longer do we really need to have both Escobar and O-Dog on the 25 man?
  18. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 09:22 PM) Fixed. Good one. Well, there's hope that the holes in the swing just haven't been found yet, and he'll turn to crap. Lefties, especially, tend to look really good the first time through. Time will tell, but yeah, the stroke looks good. I don't truly HATE to the Cubs, BTW, I mostly disregard them - it's just that I know the Chi-town media will gravitate to any feel-good Cub story, even in a season of crap, and relatively ignore what is going to be a special season on the South Side. Such are the joys of following the beloved from another location. I no longer have to be immersed in the Embracing-of-Suck Cubbie fandom that permeates Chicago media, which, admittedly, largely drove this northsider to see the light at 35th and Shields.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 02:43 AM) Hey, could it be Ozzie had a bad year last year, as Kenny had a bad year and the players had a bad year last year? Actually the last 2 years of pretty bad baseball? If you think it's all on Ozzie, fine. If you think Ozzie's performance is why the players failed, fine. I happen to not think that. I think it's shared blame with the majority of it on the ballplayers. Is ozzie imperfect? Of course. But they call it a "team" for a reason. I look at the big picture and I think the big picture indicates Ozzie was an unqualified success in Chicago. When people blast away on him, I can't help but stand up for him even though he and his millions of dollars do not need my support. Even though he'd tell me to f*** off if I met him in a bar and told him I stand up for him on soxtalk. He'd call me a loser. Too bad, I think he was a good Sox skipper. If the answers to all your questions are "it's Ozzie's fault," fine. I do not believe this to be the case. Yet I also do not believe Ozzie is perfect. Good post, Greg, and I really think the mgr's contribution to success or failure is less than most people want to believe. However, IMO, ONE of the positives of our manager's style that seems to be rubbing off on some of the players, is actually giving a damn. Ozzie was phoning it in for years.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 11:45 AM) Maybe I should just skip this one to keep my blood pressure down. Every game Floyd pitches I get into fights with other posters in the game thread. Last week Greg said I offended his religious beliefs. Do tell.
  21. AJ probably REALLY does not want to start over with another franchise and fan base if he can stay here for similar money.
  22. JFP Don't let him go out there again in the 8th, long season.
