Jhan Marinez recalled from Triple-A Charlotte.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 02:14 PM) http://twitter.com/SouthSideAsylum/status/223846616052940800 It will be neat when we set the record as the WS Champ with the most players ever to appear on a 25man in one season. I kind of doubt we're close to that, but there's a ways to go. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) Once you send someone down, you aren't allowed to recall them for 10 days without someone going on the DL. This isn't because they like one guy or the other better. It is just roster flexing around the schedule. Marinez will only be here for four days until Humber gets recalled. Thanks, was not aware of this rule. -
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:56 PM) I wish fielders would get errors for clearly missed catches, even though he got the eventual out the fact Viciedo didn't straight catch the ball against Bautista should have been an error. Yeah, the official scoring rules suck. Hawk's been (rightly) screaming for the creation of the "team error" concept for an eternity. If the goal of official scoring is to create an accurate, historical record of what transpired in a game (and I think it is), this needs to happen, along with allowing for other judgements by the scorer when a fielder doesn't actually get a glove on the ball - like Harper losing the ball in the lights on Tuesday, for instance.

QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:44 PM) I think Millwood and Wolf are realistic expectations. Then why bother? Neither is likely to outperform Humber, IMO, or really any other Coop-trash-heap-reclamation project. Aim higher or stand pat. If aiming higher is too costly, stand pat.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:08 PM) It allowed him to pitch during real games while the ASB was going on. It also allowed the Sox to only be paying a major league salary to 24 players during that time. Sure, but why the switch from Heath to Marinez, both RHP, w/o seeing Heath at the MLB level? A week later they decide they like Marinez better? -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 12:41 PM) Oh. Not a bad plan. It also matches him up with Verlander for the start of the Tiger's series on the 20th, giving us our best chance to win that matchup. I'm looking forward to seeing Kate Upton cleavage shots in the stands behind home plate at opposing ballparks whenever JV pitches in the 2nd half. Bound to happen, and likely to cause removal of fans for indecency, but still, well worth it!

Seems a bit odd with Heath never getting into a game - or did he and I missed it? -
Best and Worst Sections, value in the park
ILMOU replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 08:05 PM) I don't find that to be the case at all, as long as you are near the front of the UD and somewhat near home plate. If you are down the lines or way up the stairs, then yeah. Yes. I was referring to those - at the top of the right and left field upper decks, in the very corner. Truly awful vantage point, but as you said it's fairly similar to the worst seats at most of the new parks. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 07:02 PM) Think the Sox will agressively push Walker up to W-S soon, or keep him in Kanny all year? He is 2/3 with a 2B, 3B right now. Batting .284 and a .400 OBP to go along with 39 SB. Only blemish is his K numbers still. 81 Ks which is around 27% K-rate. He's definitely improved over the course of this season. Feeling much better about his chances now. K's are the big concern as you say.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 05:20 PM) Every single new ballpark out there is like this. Mostly, yes. And I greatly prefer the TV to wasting my money on such a seat. -
Now 6 innings, still just the two hits allowed. Guess we'll be seeing him next Tuesday. A reboot against the BoSox won't be easy.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 03:50 PM) Yeah but that's kind of true from most UD seats, I've found. It IS really hard to tell: is that going out or an easy pop? So that is one legit thing about UD--it's hard to gauge wear that ball is going, depth-wise. Yes, and you wind up cheering like an idiot for what turns out to be an easy out. Made me feel like a Cubs fan. -

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) I have sat literally everywhere in that park except for Scout seats and Club Level (doing that soon), and it's crazy to say the UD seats are terrible. I've sat last row, all the way down 3B line (i.e., as high and far away as you can be) and the view is still not bad. Plus, you get the killer view of the city and the breeze when it's hot. Usually we're in first row in the UD and of course that's killer. The lines are shorter in the UD, the fans tend to be real fans (not on their iPhones all day) and there's even a MUCH less crowded gift shop. The only crappy seats I've ever experienced at The Cell are the ones behind/next to the foul poles. 155/156 or 108/109. I hate those views. I also enjoy being first row any section in the OF, especially the bleachers. Hell even the fan deck is a nice view, if far away. Can't agree with this. Sat in these "worst seats in the house" for a 2000 playoff game. You literally can't tell if a ball leaving the bat is an infield popup or a home run. -

The Cell is better than the Trop or Oakland. Can't think of any others, though. -
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) A Padres beat writer was on the radio here in CA, talking about the trade deadline and he reported that the Padres have started talks with the White Sox about Volquez and Street. Not shocking that this is being reported on the same day as the poor Danks prognosis.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 12:30 PM) Why are people acting as if this matters? Injury or not, Danks was possibly the worst pitcher in our rotation...losing him did not hurt us...it quite possibly helped us. If he did come back, would he have returned to form? And if he did, what form ar we talking about? His career numbers do not suggest #1 or #2, IMO. In either case, who knows...since he's not coming back. All we can use is the statistical data we have, and last season and this season his WHIP and ERA were on the rise. He was practically an automatic loss unless we got him out of the game early enough. The few starts he had that were quality were few and far between the really bad ones. Let's not pretend the loss of Danks is the reason we need another pitcher...even if he wasn't injured, we'd need another pitcher BECAUSE of him. Unless of course, his performance this year had something to do with injury, which is very possible, if not probable. And we only need him to be a #3, BTW, which he's plenty capable of. He's 27 and just entering his pitching prime, when healthy. Sucks that we have to wait, but he's still more likely to be an asset than a liability long-term, IMO.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 07:09 AM) I heard he dropped another poop reference too which is hilarious. "It's all behind me now." George Brett responding to questions about hemhoroids (sp?) that he was suffering from some season late in his playing career.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 07:32 AM) Yea. I'm pretty sure this is the first year of the 4-day break. Actually, in recent years, SOME teams have resumed play on Thursday, while other were off until Friday.

FutureSox Mid-season 2012 Top Prospects List

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 11:50 AM) All I got is that when the Barons visited Tennessee mid June, as far as I could tell he was benched the whole time with no injury statements. Thanks. -
QUOTE (MEANS @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) not sounding good for Danks... from rotoworld: White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper said Thursday that John Danks (shoulder) is not close to returning. "John is not feeling so hot," Cooper told WSCR-AM 670. "His shoulder is not feeling so good, we've made minimal progress with it and from my standpoint -- I don’t mean this fully, I love John -- he’s not on my radar right now. We would love to have John back, but that doesn’t look like that’s happening in the next two-to-three weeks at least." Danks has been on the disabled list since May 20. He'll aim to return by the middle of August. Sucks, but not surprising. Might need to get another SP now to keep this from being a season killer.

FutureSox Mid-season 2012 Top Prospects List
ILMOU replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 10:27 AM) We've seen some negative reports on his defense, that seem to indicate he is not even average for that level and his development. Also, while being in B-Ham may take some HR's away, it should cause THAT drastic a split, which suggests something more mental. Its possible the pressure that was added last year when he became so highly touted, then had an extended look in ST, is having an effect. Also hearing rumblings of some other, unspecified issues. His overall numbers are not good, but his K rate is a little lower and his walk rate is a lot higher, so those are good signs. Hopefully his strong July will continue. But having him in the teens on the list, right now, seems about right to me. Can't let this slide by without asking. ??? -
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) Well, Matt Millen IS an honorary board member of The Second Mile...which leads me to believe he was one of the men who made one of those "mistakes." Denial dies hard.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 10:33 AM) On The Franchise last night, the Marlins Team President asked Ozzie about three times "are you sure you're not keeping Heath Bell as closer only due to him making 9 million a year?". Ozzie responded that wasn't the reason why he wanted him to be closer, as he felt the team was better with Bell as the closer and the 9 million dollar salary was the fault of the front office, and not him. He's already pitting himself against the FO - this will end well.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 10:31 PM) It's not for a lack of trying. Between trading for Flowers and drafting Phegley, Barraza, Ayala and Kevan Smith fairly highly they've gone after a lot of catchers in the hopes of finding the catcher of the future. Flowers and Phegley haven't exactly panned out. Throw in semi/former prospect Mike Blanke and Miguel Gonzalez and you have what once was the deepest position in the farm. Now...it's a bunch of maybes. That's pretty much my point. Not total garbage, and no shortage of candidates, but noone seems like he's close to a sure thing either.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 08:50 PM) Not the slowest Sox ever. Harold Baines, at the end of his career, ran at a grandmotherly pace. I think Harold would run circles around Paulie at any point in his career, but I guess we'll never know.
