  1. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 02:45 PM) "Weird Al" Yankovic didn't attend a BCS school. Yeesh tough crowd. Parity. Happy? Huskers...I tell ya
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) I dont know if I agree with that. This is just an example (so easy fellas) if Illinois or Iowa moved from the big ten (12) to the SEC, do they 1. Ever win a conference title 2. Make a BCS bowl? That's an unfair example because can you imagine Illinois winning a Big Ten title now anyway? Sure it will happen someday, but with where the program is it's not going to be anytime soon. I guess your argument is that Illinois' best teams (01 and 07) wouldn't have made BCS bowls in the SEC, which is a reasonable argument. Look at South Carolina and Arkansas though. Neither is a top tier program or anywhere close. Arkansas just went to the Sugar Bowl and SC was in the SEC title game. Any school that moves to the SEC is likely to see a recruiting boost (short of an already elite school like OU or Texas making that move) and fit in more competitively. I can see your point, but I think you're underestimating the amount of parody we've seen within big conferences.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) My post wasnt specifically about them. Either way, the odds are much better outside of the SEC. I would think most schools goals would be to make a BCS bowl and make more money. I just dont get why the middle of the road teams are so in favor of super conferences. My point is that a middle of the road or even perennial top 25 program that doesn't break into the top 10 every year is unlikely to go to a BCS bowl anyway. What does moving to a super conference do to change that?
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) No, its a shot at any school that thinks the SEC is going to help them somehow. Why not stay in the conference that is losing teams so that you can make a BCS game perhaps and make a ton of cash. As long as OU and Texas are in the Big 12 it's unlikely Missouri wins that anyway. If they leave, it's not clear the Big 12 is a BCS conference. Basically, any league that Missouri would be favored in more than once in a blue moon is in danger of losing its AQ status.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) And if you're a middle of the road sports school, why would you want to join a conference you literally will never win? LOL sounds like a shot at Missouri, but it's not like we've won the Big 12 or anything (in football) so what's the difference.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) The Big East has lost Western PA and Upstate NY at TV markets. If Rutgers and UConn bolt, the conference loses it's biggest remaining draws in New England and New York. ND would no longer be getting nearly the media exposure they now get from the conference, and that would probably be enough to push them to give up football independence. Media exposure for non-football sports? Really? Basketball is the only one that gets regular TV and for ND it's not a big money maker.
  7. Nice video with the Great Falls celebration and some interviews. Kevan Smith 28-57 to close out the regular season LOL.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 06:59 AM) However, if the Big East loses more than Just Pitt and Syracuse, then it's time for ND to leave the Big East, and any of there new prospective conference homes are unlikely to accept them in basketball + other sports without joining in football. I don't see why they would need to leave the Big East for their other sports. There are plenty of non-football schools in the Big East and frankly there were too many in basketball anyway. They could play with the other non-football schools in olympic sports and be fine.
  9. Kafka to Maclin. This pleases me. And then that happened. Damnit Jeremy, that was there.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) (Scouts) danman31, Ozzieball, JPN366, DirtySox, scenario The best in the soxtalk business. I personally think most of these guys fly under the radar too much. Ha if by under the radar you mean rarely posts in this forum then yes, I am under the radar.
  11. I said Illinois picked up a nice win earlier. I guess I'll just refrain from posting my opinion on a message board for fear that I'll get a one word oops call out. Sheesh.
  12. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 18, 2011 -> 01:29 AM) Well then don't make the prediction It's a message board. There's discussion. I took part in the discussion. If you're making posts that are discouraging discussion, you're not really taking part in the whole message board thing.
  13. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 18, 2011 -> 01:07 AM) Oops You know, I really hate how you make these one word posts about someone making a wrong prediction. OMG I said something semi-bold and was wrong! The horror!
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 18, 2011 -> 12:33 AM) 90% of the ND fans and students aren't from Indiana. I understand that. Doesn't make it less strange. Of all the places for a truly national University to be it's in Northern Indiana?
  15. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 18, 2011 -> 12:01 AM) I think Notre Dame is hated in the same way that Derek Jeter is hated. It's not because of any character flaws or things Jeter has done in the past to deserve all the hate, but because everyone over-hypes him and acts like he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. At least, that's what it seems whenever I talk to ND haters. They just hate the attention and hype that comes w/ a team that hardly ever lives up to it. That's a decent comparison. I've had typical experiences with ND fans that are just ridiculous. For the MSU game last year I was at a friend's place watching it and a few ND fans were there. One of them wanted Kelly on the hot seat immediately. Not to mention, a football program in Indiana? How were they ever good? Hard to imagine an entitled fan base for football in a well below average football state in terms of talent and popularity of the sport.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) Yes, but you're patronizing ME, not Notre Dame. Meh, sorry. Boo Notre Dame lol
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 10:29 PM) I'm saying that patronization is unnecesary. But enjoyable none the less. Notre Dame is the most hatable program in all of college sports. I feel no sorrow about kicking a program when it's down when that's all Notre Dame did for its existence. As far as I'm concerned, that program is still owed a few knocks.
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) Yeah and Michigan State won a share of the Big 10 last year. What are you trying to say? Notre Dame is 1-2. Hard to win any arguments about quality.
  19. Good win for Illinois. Not the same Arizona State team I saw last week. Amazing what a Friday night home crowd can do.
  20. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 07:43 PM) I think EJ Manuel is going to have to pull a Cam Newton to keep FSU in this one. Yeah I don't think it will be super close unless we see more dumb decisions like Landry on that pick.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 17, 2011 -> 05:54 PM) N.D. thumping the #15 team in the country 31-13 with 3 mins left in the game. How cute, Notre Dame won a game. I can't say I care about FSU otherwise, but I'm actually rooting for OU because of the seminole chant. Nothing more annoying in sports. Though Illinois' 3rd down chant is up there.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 12:59 AM) All LSU has to do is avoid turnovers on offense and they'll win every game on their schedule except at Alabama due to that defense. I actually think LSU has a better defense than Alabama (Alabama has more NFL prospects, but I think LSU has a better unit). However, Alabama's offense is ahead of LSU's ,and the only way I could see LSU winning at Alabama is if they can win the turnover battle by 2 or 3. The winner of LSU/Alabama will go to Atlanta 12-0 IMO, which is interesting because I think it's very possible South Carolina will be 12-0 headed to Atlanta. How many years of college football have you watched? It's extremely rare to see a number of BCS undefeateds, let alone more than 1 in the SEC.
  23. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 11:20 PM) Mullen was the toast of the town last year but he's looking straight at a 6-6 season IMO now. You say 6-6 in the SEC like it's an insult.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 10:35 PM) I know a team that's getting some Dairy Queen tonight. Haha good to see a league champ in the system, even if it's rookie ball.
  25. Voyagers leading game 2 On the cusp of a title thanks to a strong start from Blair Walters and 3 hits from Kevan Smith.
