QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 11:41 AM) We're going to need at least 1 extra bullpen arm next year if no one else is signed if we want to move Sale to the rotation. Or hell, even if we want to stop the rotating door of Gray/Bruney/et al.. There's no good reason to trade Sergio just to try someone else out as the closer...Crain + Santos + Reed + Thornton makes for one possibly monstrously good setup/Closer group. There's a good reason to trade Sergio, it's that the team has other holes and they can likely replace his production in the bullpen. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) I don't know if this has been mentioned, but Dylan's dad is agent Barry Axelrod. So I'm guessing the Sox picking up Dylan in 09 had something to do with picking up Peavy that year and having dad as the agent. Who would have thought that would have worked out as more than a harmless favor? How has this story not been picked up yet? This is incredible.

I'd have to check gameday to confirm, but his 'nothing more than 90' fastball sat 91-92 regularly. That's not blazing, but it's certainly MLB cailber speed. I saw someone else bring this up recently, but I'd trade Santos this offseason with the hopes of having Reed close. Maybe line up a vet for a one-year deal while Reed grows into the spot, but he should be that good if he can handle the pressure.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 09:43 AM) playing through the original assassin's creed, wow is the voice acting awful for the main character. Maybe I'm just spoiled because my last few games have been ME2 and RdR Haha I enjoyed it, but they've changed it for the upcoming game. AC gets repetitive when you get close to the end, but it's worth sticking it out to get to the sequel.

Escobar hit .266/.303/.354 in AAA this year, but is up with the big club for September. He's already 2-4! Good to see my AAP make the bigs, even if just for a cup of coffee.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 01:05 PM) Wait, Axelrod is starting? Hey I might listen to this afterall. He gets me to watch for the first time in a while. Only reason for me to care at this point is Viciedo/Reed/Axelrod watch. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) Wait who is playing 3rd for Detroit? They just made a nice play. A guy who had no glove when he played for us of course.

Voyagers @ Ogden - game 1 Snodgress rocked, but HRs from Earley, Medina and Smith have the Voyagers in front.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) It depends when we pick, that was the case with Sale when he was promised that he would be on the ML roster by the end of the year. With Poreda, Mitchell and Walker, they didn't have a lot of leverage and were all seen as reaches. Beckham is a case where we picked what was one the better talents on the board and got a contract worked out. The draft pick strategy only really makes a difference if the organization adapts their view to building a farm system and developing minor league talent, which probably wont be the case as long as JR is calling the shots. Mitchell wasn't considered a reach.

Usually no.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) I can't believe what Serena Williams just did. Now THAT is a hissy fit. Yeah she's out of control. I wish they could have called that a let. It's a bad rule to give up a point on that without a warning.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 04:30 PM) Me and fathom both agreed he is the future closer of this team. Not a doubt in my mind. (no disrespect to Santos who has had an outstanding year) Coming from the guy who blasted us for ranking Reed the No. 2 prospect in the system ha. Glad you came around. I've been saying he's MLB ready for most of the year now. -

Didn't watch the game, but what are people's impressions on Reed? His peripherals remain through the roof in the Majors. 6 K, 0 BB in 2.1 innings so far. Not a big sample, but it's exactly what he did in the minors all year. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 03:49 PM) This is Game 4, BTW. Birmingham is down 2-1 going into this game. Whoops, I knew that. Both teams facing elimination then.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 10:40 PM) Is it time to ban ND from being ranked pre-season? It should have been time previously. They're just not good at football anymore. College football is better for it too. -

QUOTE (The Bones @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 01:05 AM) So much for that. ASU will be coming into Champaign undefeated next week. Should be a good one. Don't see how Illinois will be able to stop ASU. Shouldn't be a good one. Pinkel said he wanted to draw the D offsides on the FG attempts. -

QUOTE (The Bones @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 12:53 AM) What was that about?! Going to overtime now. I still think Mizzou has the momentum. I'm sure he'll say why after the game. I'm not sure I believe in icing the kicker anyway. He looked jumpy beforehand on one of them so I was glad he called the 2nd TO. In general though, it's weird. -
Barons lost game 2 7-5 Series tied at 1 Santiago shelled Voyagers won 8-3 Voyagers lead 1-0 in the best of 3 Smith back

Pair of big wins. Barons in playoff opener and Voyagers to clinch a playoff spot.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 11:54 AM) While the point still remains, Saladino and Thompson are better prospects than the 3 mentioned. Yeah, whoever asked if Short was the best position player prospect was ignorant to the system and Callis went for the dramatic answer by not naming the two guys who are clearly the best in the system.

Voyagers @ Missoula 9/7 Still no Smith Voyagers lost again, but so did Billings so they're in first by a game heading into the last day of the season.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 09:37 PM) Makes you wonder how bad players in the minors are for him to have almost a K/IP Ha well he currently has a K/IP in the Majors. Then again it is the Twins lineup so... -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) That rumor has been circulating for a while but so far havent seen anywhere else pick it up. Outside of that 1 NU poster, most believe that LHN is the reason why Texas wont be going to the Pac 10 or the Big 10. It's also why them going independent is the most likely scenario to me. -
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 12:54 AM) Does anyone else absolutely hate first person games? Hate is a strong word, but I definitely don't prefer them. I'm into sports games or third-person games, though I had a ton of fun with Crysis 2. I think the FPS genre has become over saturated so unless you do something amazing graphically like Crysis or Killzone it's tough to beat games like Halo or COD (though I've never played a COD game). I've noticed more quality games that haven't been first-person lately.
