  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 08:59 AM) Who is this Jason Van Skike? Looks a 22-year-old NDFA, put up some flashy peripherals in Bristol, then was promoted all the way to W-S. What's really interesting to me is, aside from striking out a lot of guys and walking few, he also had a very high GO/AO rate. Most of the time the high-K guys don't get as many ground balls. Easy there NSS, don't get over excited about another NDFA. Just because Remenowsky let you down in AAA doesn't mean you need to replace him yet.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 10:24 PM) Ha, I made that post before I opened the Trib at home. Pretty solid front page with the I-0. The thing is we are talking Illinois football, not Ohio State, not Oregon. If you really want to schedule Mizzou, go ahead, but give the team some time to get focused, get confident. Yeah absolutely. I always dreaded playing that game in week one. I feel like it was worse being the favorite because only once was Illinois expected to do anything preseason. Of course the 2007 match up was two great teams, but neither team was expected to be anywhere near as good as they were.
  3. Knights won 10-2 Dash lost 16-10 2 HR for Blanke 3 hits, BB for Saladino Voyagers @ Missoula Gehle
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) 1st time in like 5 years, the Illini don't have to open with Mizzou. 1-0 here we come!!!! Haha the article in the Trib about that cracked me up. I understand it completely, but I'm surprised what the players and coaches were saying about that. Comes off like they are scared of good teams.
  5. That would be 3 more pitchers.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) Hopefully he'll (Mitchell) at least play Winter Ball somewhere. He needs all the playing time and experience he can get, no matter where it is. Honestly, at this point I think it's good he gets some time off. The dude worked his ass off to get back ahead of schedule last year (when he took part in the AFL) and is entering a late season slump this year, which makes me think he is burnt out. I think the best thing for him would be to spend a couple months away from baseball.
  7. Knights won 8-6 Humber and AJ rehab Barons lost 9-1 Kanny won 13-3 3 hits for Walker, Wilson and Ravelo Voyagers @ Missoula Bristol lost 10-5 Season finale
  8. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 03:52 PM) Dunn should go. If he can't hit down there then he should just hang 'em up. Honestly not the worst idea I've heard, but is that allowed? I'm almost sure there are age/level restrictions.
  9. LOL seriously Mike? Are we both scouring twitter for things to post on here or what? Ha! I thought for sure I had the jump on that one.
  10. Mark Gonzales tweets AFL names Josh Phegley, Brandon Short, Tyler Saladino and Terry Doyle. Other than Saladino being a possibility I pretty much whiffed on who they would send, but as Kevin Goldstein mentioned, roster turnover is common from now to the season.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 08:41 AM) Serafin in Charlotte? Interesting, he didn't have all that great a year in High A even. I know, end of year fill-in promotions, but still, surprised he was the one they picked. The Dash are in the playoff race and he's probably someone they can afford to lose. Plus I have a feeling some of these moves are rewards are hard working guys. Get a taste of the higher level and I think it gives them a bit more cash too.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) Escobar may be call up worthy. I'm pretty sure he'd hit like first half Juan Pierre. Defense can only go so far.
  13. Knights won 4-3 Reed 2 IP, K, H Barons lost 3-2 Shirek Kanny lost 6-1 Bristol lost 4-1
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 01:52 PM) I'll believe that when I see it. The sad thing is that it will probably would also mean the one guy in the organization who has more K's than Adam Dunn will also be moving up. I noticed Mitchell got moved down in the order recently. Hitting 6th/7th instead of in the top of the order.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 09:01 PM) I don't know a thing about him. I know that Jr at least had some projectability, how about Tyler? I don't think so, but I really don't know. I just wish some of our posters wouldn't hate on him just because of his father.
  16. People jump over Tyler Williams when he was struggling, but now that he's on a hot streak you don't hear a peep. Kid is 12-31 in the last 9 games.
  17. Knights doubleheader: Lost game 1 4-3 Lost game 2 3-0 Barons @ Mississippi Leesman Dash won 8-2 Bayne Intimidators doubleheader: Lost game 1 8-5 (Thompson 3-4 with 2 doubles) Won game 2 14-6 Voyagers won 3-2 Snodgress with 6 near perfect innings Kingston @ Bristol
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) Meanwhile, Ackley's OPS is almost 200 ahead of Beckham. Sigh. But Smoak, what the heck happened there? What does Ackley have to do with Beckham?
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 08:13 PM) Isn't Charlotte playing now? http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...chraaa_dubaaa_2 Whoops, I saw a postponement and figured that was it. I guess they had a doubleheader scheduled but just played one.
  20. Charlotte PPD Barons @ Mississippi Santiago 7 scoreless Myrtle Beach @ Dash Wickswat Intimidators @ Rome Furnish Idaho Falls @ Voyagers Bristol won 4-3 Kibby 6 dominant innings
  21. Knights @ Durham Axelrod Barons @ Mississippi Myrtle Beach @ Dash Buch dominant start Dash game 2 Intimidators @ Rome Bachanov Idaho Falls @ Voyagers Bristol @ Princeton 13 runs and 7 XBH for the BriSox Tyler Williams 5 for his last 8 with 3 XBH and 7 for his last 14.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 03:09 PM) One thing I learned from The Road: if it looks like the world is ending, fill up your bathtub. Wow that's awesome. For all my discussions of zombie survival, that is one that has never come up and makes a lot of sense.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) Technically more. You can call up to 40, so if you had anyone on the 60 day DL you could go beyond that I believe At least I think, I could be wrong Players on the 60-day DL don't count towards the 40-man roster. The most you can have is 40 active players, but anyone on the 15-day DL counts on the 40-man roster so you'd have to have a completely healthy roster for that to happen. With AJ out, the Sox wouldn't be able to have 40 active players and I assume they aren't going to move him to the 60-day DL.
