QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 11:31 PM) Its obviously just 1 game, but I think he brings a different passion/approach than other US coaches and he just seems to have a magnetism that can compel players to improve. It felt fresh in the last half hour, which is nice. I like Brek Shea a lot so it's good to see him get a cap and impress. Most of the other surprise call ups were pretty poor though. Castillo was dreadful and Orozco was mediocre. Still need some young defenders, though it's hard to complain about that too much given Lichaj and Chandler weren't there.

Knights won 8-5 Axelrod start Viciedo hitless, Escobar 3 hits Barons lost 16-3 2 doubles for Gilmore Shirek absolutely throttled Dash doubleheader Won game 1 6-2 Won game 2 2-0 (Rienzo 6 IP, 7 K, 1 BB, 1 H) Kanny lost 4-0 Voyagers lost 4-1 Bristol lost 20-3 Buch with another stellar rehab start, but the bullpen got trashed and then some.

.228/.328/.437 for Trayce in Kannapolis so far this year. Average and ISO almost identical to a year ago. K rate barely down (29.4% of PA last year, 28.4% this year). His walk rate is way up though. Not exactly the improvement everyone was hoping for, but he still has a month to show some improvement across the board.

Hank Scorpio, the Monorail ("Mono-DOH!"), Stonecutters, Troy McClure in Plant of the Apes, homophobia all amazing. Great list so far. I'll add Fallout Boy (My eyes! The goggles do nothing!) as an absolute classic. So many to choose from. I love when Moe starts a family restaurant and fries everything, including the plates and utensils. Also, I reference the episode when Moe becomes an actor on a soap all the time. Pink pages are dreams, but goldenrod is for coma fantasies. Classic. How about the one where Homer's face is a logo for a Japanese company? "There's your answer fishbulb." Happy Smile Super Family Challenge Wish Show!

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 07:57 PM) Either that or he's proficient at tweeting one-handed. I assume most 17-26 year-olds fit into the latter, well at least texting, but same thing really.

QUOTE (jenksfart @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 08:31 AM) There appears to be a longhorn dictatorship in the big 12, but I was speaking of actual rosters though, I have to give the sooners some credit. Would not surprise me to see the big 12 just the 4 Texas schools and the 2 OK schools in the future, with everyone else scrambling to find a decent conference to move to. Credit to neb and col for making the first move. If you're speaking of actual rosters, Texas wasn't that good this year and likely won't be much better this year but whatever. There's no reason to see the rest of the Big 12 North leave. If anyone leaves to spark the end of the conference it's going to be OU and/or A&M with others. The big schools like having a bigger geographical reach for TV markets so the northern teams have value. -
QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 08:21 PM) That's ridiculous, an under .500 pitcher getting that much money. Stop it with this W-L bulls***. Most of wins and losses is out of the starting pitcher's control. It's completely useless to use in evaluating a pitcher.

I assume that athletic look is why he received so much praise as a youngster. Looks and sounds like he needs to gain some muscle to develop some power.

So the guy who supposedly had massive power potential and has only showed it in a HR derby has a massive swing? Gotta love the minors.

Lolla anyone? I went yesterday (not going today) and was surprised at how much I enjoyed some of the earlier bands. Delta Spirit was cool and The Kills were pretty awesome as well. Coldplay did their thing on the headlining spot, though I wish I could have seen Muse as well. Sunday is Foo Fighters day so that will be epic.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 07:16 PM) So how would people view Petricka's season so far? Right in the middle for me. He started dominating low A like he should, then he got promoted and hasn't pitched well in high A. How much of that is injury recovery and how much of that is cause for concern? I wasn't going to celebrate what he did in Kannapolis and I'm not going to hate on what he's done in Winston-Salem. His splits for the Dash are equally confusing. It's obviously too early for them to be significant, but they're still weird. Lefties are hitting 88 points lower against him while his ERA is 7 points lower at home. The Dash play in a huge hitters' park and he's got a sub 2 ERA there.

Yeah that sounds really cool, but man that guy's accent is horrifying.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) Its different at first until you tweak it. For macbooks it has an ipad-like touch interface and all macs now get a ipad-like launching menu for apps. Outside of that its not all that different IMO. As someone who runs Snow Leopard and went to an Apple Store to demo Lion myself, I didn't think it was all that different. I don't have enough applications to use the goofy launch pad, but that's not a negative. Most of the features can be ignored or turned off so it's not all that different. Some of the touch gestures are cool and potentially a significant upgrade for someone who would use them, but a lot of them already exist. There is a decent amount of customization available with the new options as well. I don't see how someone that uses Snow Leopard would hate Lion. You can make them pretty similar if you know how. I just didn't see enough of a change to pay anything at all for it, even if $30 is a cheap upgrade.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 10:13 PM) Where would you peg the end of Rose's prime atthough? He led the league in OBP at age 38. He put up a .391 OBP at age 40. Pretty amazing stuff. http://www.fangraphs.com/graphs.aspx?playe...1&type=full 38 is one thing. He played until he was 45. Generally, what's the difference between a 31-year-old and a 36-year-old? Quite a lot. Those five years from him being a solid player to him being awful just to get the record is my point.

Cardinals fans just gave a standing ovation for a player who was hitting .197 before they traded for him. They can say they are the best fans in baseball, but I found them to be some of the worst. They love the team, but after that they're dreadful. Absolute lack of knowledge of the game.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) Okay, it's not a big deal. But, Smith is one of our better 2011 signings, he hit very well at Bristol, others on this board (including me) thought he should be promoted, and he gets sent down in the food chain to G Falls. I was hoping one of our posters had some insight on the move. Great Falls is technically above Bristol. The Pioneer League has a few more advanced rookie teams than the Appalachian League. The Sox use Great Falls as the top place for their older draft picks to play. It's a promotion, but it's not much of one.

Holy god 20 K in 24 AB?

Long term maybe that's bad for Cleveland, but Ubaldo could make them a decent team.
