Complete White Sox draft and signings list

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) I found this interesting from that article I wonder how frequently this is done? Seems to be a good ploy to convince the HS kid drafted late whos is wavering between college and pro ball to sign. From what I've heard it's very common. As far as I know most college juniors get that last year of college paid for almost all the time. The high schoolers probably get it less often, but I think most do. And now that I think about it this explains Kevan Smith's "promotion" to Great Falls. They needed to open up some at-bats at catcher for Mosier. -
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 10:55 PM) I figure that they go on a little run this week and he trades Viciedo and reed for some vet. KW doesn't believe in youth movements. He didn't in 07, he won't now. I'd cry. Doubtful though. Kenny's not dumb.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 08:32 PM) Walker also had 2 SB. He is 9/14. Not great, but I think he is 5 for his last 5. 5 for his last 7, but I'm not going to worry about stolen base numbers in rookie ball. He'll probably get a lot better at stealing/reading pitchers as he gets more pro coaching and he'll face much better catchers as he moves up anyway. Rienzo, off the DL today, comes out of the pen tonight. Probably just because he needs to stretch his arm back out, but I think a lot of people view him as a future reliever.
-
Voyagers lost 8-4 Walker 0-1, 2 BB Birmingham is off, but the rest play later tonight.
-
Tough loss for Great Falls. Down 7-2 in the 9th, they scored 7 in the top half to take the lead, but gave 3 right back. Bristol lost 5-1

Knights @ Louisville 5:05 Axelrod Barons @ Mobile 6:05 Potomac @ Dash Rodriguez Rome 2, Kannapolis 0 Ravelo 2-4 Arroyo 6 IP, 2 R Voyagers @ Ogden 5 Gehle Kingsport @ Bristol 6

Dunn got a count and crushed a pitch (foul). This is already a better than expected AB.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) Saw Man U today, they didnt seem to be on most of the match, but pulled away in the end. Yeah, the difference between the first and second half was huge. Man U brought out all the big guns in the second half. Fun game to be at.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) Is Rangel Ravelo any good? Kind of ring the bell as Jon Gilmore. Young 3B, good contact hitter with minimal power. Good comp. by the numbers. Ravelo doesn't walk either. It's the same story. He's young enough to develop the power, but Gilmore obviously didn't and then of course can he stick at third?

QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 01:13 PM) Why? I guess I should have been clearer. I wasn't saying that I'm against it. I'm merely saying I don't buy that it helps guys. I don't think it matters all that much either way. Pitching as a starter is such a different thing from pitching as a reliever that I don't see if the extra reps are relevant or harmful.
-
That's not to say making guys temp. starters is a good practice. It is widely done though.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) Baseball America's Not So Hot Sheet: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...11/2612126.html Did they just make a judgment on speed based on stolen base numbers?

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) Without seeing his games, teams are prob pitching away from him, and would not be surprised if he has chased a few bad pitches as a result. I'm positive that's part of it. The fact that he's been getting so many walks is all the evidence you need for him getting pitched around.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 09:36 PM) Welcome to every year since 2005. Yeah, I haven't read PHT for a long time. Occasionally I pop in, but I don't think it's such a bad thing to avoid 90% of the topics. I don't have enough time in my day to read every post on here. -

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) I wasn't aware Kevin Goldstein had spent so much time in my hometown watching Barons games since last summer. I'm seriously getting tired of reading people make these negative statements about Phegley's defense when they haven't seen him enough to make even a flash evaluation. He needs work on passed balls, blocking in the dirt, period. His defense isn't anywhere near a concern or worrisome. I know I'm not a professional scout, but I'm not blind and mentally handicapped either. I know baseball. I'd like to know how many games Goldstein has seen Phegley play. I doubt it's as many as I have. In fairness, these prospect guys are following 1,000 players. There's no way they can do anything, but go off flash evaluations and listen to what scouts tell them. -

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 01:29 PM) I think Phegley will surprise a lot of people. The negative reports on him are just the same as the negative reports on Viciedo...uninformed b***s***. He's got a good arm and his thrown out rate shows that, but for argument's sake let's say he's a solid average defender...he's still not hitting enough even for a catcher. Also, I noticed that anywhere from 20-40 the guys seemed interchangeable. It becomes a matter of preference in player type at that point. -

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) Didnt we draft some kid that was completely out of blue no college or comittment to any? Was he signed? 29th rounder Dustin Hayes from Canada and no, he hasn't signed. -
QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) Downloading Lion now, anyone else? I'd like to hear what you think of it when you get a feel for it. Upgrading to Snow Leopard was a revelation for me. I'm actually pretty happy, but I can be swayed. Some of the trackpad gestures sound intriguing, but the stuff they originally advertised about Lion didn't interest me.

Knights @ Indy Heath Barons @ Mobile Shirek Dash lost 5-4 HRs for Saladino and Dubler. Mitchell and Wilkins 0-4. Kanny @ Asheville Carter GF off Bristol @ Elizabethton Bollinger

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 08:02 AM) So who's left unsigned that we should really be hoping they are able to get signed? Freese? I'd bet the Sox are done. -

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 08:14 PM) Phegly will never be more than organization depth, IMO. Gonzalez has really struggled to adjust. Blanke hasn't been able to produce against stiffer competition. And Smith, despite my adoration for him, is still only in Rookie Ball. None of our catchers right now profile to be anything more than backups. Now that could change, but right now, that's what it looks like. Yeah I agree. That's why Gonzalez and Phegley aren't in the top 25 and Flowers dropped. Most people are more optimistic about Flowers' bat this year, but I think the Ks don't make him any different than Dallas McPherson. -
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) Smith needs to be pushed to A-Ball. He is way too good for Rookie Ball. Way too good. EDIT: Smith goes deep AGAIN. Hopefully he starts next year in Winston-Salem. Miguel Gonzalez isn't really showing enough to block Smith.

Birmingham and Kannapolis are off. Knights @ Indianapolis Axelrod Dash @ Kinston Wickswat Orem @ Voyagers 8:05 Casey Bristol @ Elizabethton Leyer starting, Smith already with a HR

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 08:56 PM) Twins tie it 2-2 on Valencia solo homer off Carmona. Go Twins!!! Rooting for the Twins when they are 1.5 games behind us? In that series just be happy one of them has to lose. I respect the Twins as a division contender more than the Indians anyway.

Career marks are so iffy because it's not as much about the quality of the player, but the fact that they played well into their 40s. I never liked the idea of someone's legacy changing when they are well past their prime. To me, Ichiro is a better contact hitter than Rose and the numbers support that. I don't need him to play until he's 45 and break some record for me to realize that.
