QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 10:19 AM) Yeah I misread thought it was about Miracle On Ice as its when the US won, not a game where the US lost. So I would say this game was just as good as the Canada- USA gold medal game. Yeah, I should have been clearer. The Canada-US game was tense the whole way and had the late equalizer when the crowd was practically counting down. I have to say I was happier for the US-Algeria goal, but that's just because I cared more. In terms of quality of game and drama this is probably better because US-Algeria was 0-0 until the end so it's hard to say that was a great game, more just an incredible moment.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 09:48 PM) His BABIP must be .750 this month. I won't get excited about Mitchell in the least until he cuts that K-rate down considerably and starts to display some of that speed that had scouts saying he was the "best athlete in the draft." It's .632 lol, but in fairness half of his hits are for extra bases.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 09:22 PM) While it was a good soccer match and nice comeback, I wouldnt compare it the other two. I just don't see what those games had that this one didn't.
-
QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) woah, lets not get carried away. You're joking right? That game had it all. Just because it was the women doesn't mean it wasn't phenomenal.
-
Well that quarterfinal of the women's World Cup was one of the most exciting things I have ever seen. It was an absolute travesty that turned into one of the most incredible comebacks. Right up there with the gold medal hockey game and US-Algeria.

QUOTE (asmithxc @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 07:50 PM) He has an OPS around .890 in AAA at a position that currently has miserable hitting depth league-wide. What's average production this year in the MLB at that position? .700 OPS? Yes, he still strikes out far too often, and it is a legitimate question just how far his production will far off unless he cuts down on those strikeouts at least a bit (and whether he could even keep up this level of production at AAA). But the good news: he is playing catcher. Being a successful hitting catcher is a pretty low threshold. Not saying they should pencil him in as the future starter. But I am definitely interested to see how he can do going forward, both at the AAA and the major league levels. Flowers is striking out in 32% of his plate appearances in AAA. In no way do I find that player able to handle a promotion. You know who else has put up similar AAA numbers? Dallas McPherson. No one would confuse him for a Major League caliber player. Also, I'm hardly giving Flowers credit for playing catcher. We need to see that he can handle the position. I've heard a lot of things to make me think he can't.

QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) This would bite as he is having an ok year and what I would term as starting to turn it around. The other co-incidence is that DV is out of the lineup but that must be to do with his All Star appearance. Frankly, I don't see all the recent optimism around Flowers. He's hitting .255 with 84 K in 220 AB in AAA. Yeah, he walks and has power, but that contact rate should put him barely above Adam Dunn's territory right now.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) Yeah, I guess AJ will play even more, but if they don't play TF hardly ever, it'll be pretty obvious he's not the long term plan A. I'm guessing he isn't plan A and KW would love to trade him. At this point, the Sox would be idiotic to have Tyler as the long-term plan. If Tyler was the long-term plan AJ wouldn't have been resigned. Tyler is still an option, but there's no way the Sox are expecting him to hold down the catcher slot for years to come.
-
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 06:11 PM) Cups o' coffee. This will be a better look that I'm rather looking forward to. Do you expect him to get more than 6 PA per week? I'm not so sure. It was Castro that got hurt after all.
-
QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 06:09 PM) Based on this he still has 3 ARB years left. 40-man call ups don't start the arb clock, but this would. He's still a rookie with 2 options left.
-
QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 06:03 PM) Dan, has Flowers been to the show already? If so how much service time does he have? September call-ups the last 2 years. 3/16 with 3 BB and 8 K in 09. 1/11 with 4 BB and 5 K last year.

Castro hit on hand, leaves game with broken hand

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 05:58 PM) I actually wouldn't be too shocked if Donny Lucy got the call. Lucy just replaced Flowers in the game. I expect Tyler to be on his way to Chicago. -
QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 05:54 PM) Tyler homers for Charlotte, he is having a decent July: AVG AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS OBP SLG OPS Totals .286 35 5 10 2 0 3 7 4 19 0 0 .390 .600 .990 K´s/BB´s ratio still uneven but all in all very prductive. And Lucy just came into the game for him. Welcome to the bigs again kid.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 11:53 PM) Question about Dayan's newly abundant walks: has he actually gotten that much more patient or do AAA pitchers just not want to pitch to him? It's probably both. The difference between Dayan and most hitters is that his hitting zone is bigger than the strike zone. He can hit a lot of balls and hard (that's where the Vlad Guerrero comps come from). So for him to be walking the pitches have to be pretty far out of the zone, but he's also taking those pitches. Don't expect him to walk in the Majors until he starts hitting .300 for an extended period and shows he is a dangerous hitter.

Walker not in the lineup.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 12:42 AM) I'd think that the legalese on the backs of the tickets would be enough to avoid criminal charges. I'm not sure about civil court, though. Really? He could get sued for that? I would hope any judge would laugh that out of court.

I doubt Viciedo has ever had 3 walks in a game with none of them intentional. The Tank is ready.

Enjoy yourselves b****es!

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:45 PM) Almost cried when Reed was traded. Actually cried when McCarthy was traded. Tears in vain. I was very upset when we traded Reed. I actually liked the McCarthy-Danks deal when it was made. I viewed it as a long-term move, but I never thought it would turn out as well as it has.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:32 PM) It won't happen, but how cool would an OF of Walker-Thompson-Mitchell be? That range would be insane. But that will never happen, and most likely 2/3 will completely bust. Remember when a Sweeney/Anderson/Reed outfield sounded exciting?
