QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 06:41 AM) Much more likely you'd see Mitchell or even Keenyn Walker (coming out of JUCO ball) than Thompson. Maybe Short or Saladino. Kuhn's a possibility. Jose Martinez, it's not like we're flush with hitting prospects in the minors. Don't want to waste those developmental spots anymore on the likes of Flowers/Danks/Milledge/DeAza. Viciedo needs to keep improving in the outfield, but he might be due some time off to recover after a long season where he's battled through a couple of injuries. Escobar's another good possibility, just to see more of his hitting, although most of the Hispanic players play winter ball SOMEWHERE. I'd bet you don't see Walker there this year. Walker just got drafted, he would likely get dominated in the AFL. I have a feeling I'm gonna have to keep repeating this, but Walker was not a first round pick. Don't put first round pick expectations on him. Escobar played the AFL and did well last year so he could be a candidate, but I doubt it. The other guys you named fit, especially Saladino because he missed a month+ with an injury.

How in the hell does Cuba get a bye? If Panama and Canada win those groups as I think they should, I'm picking Cuba last in Group C.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:23 PM) So is Rienzo really going to the bullpen? What are they doing with him? I think they are just gradually stretching him out post injury. Short outing originally. 3 innings tonight. He could be starting next outing.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:48 PM) Thompson with a low avg. but 25 doubles and 17 HR's on the season, I don't know what to make of him. It looks like power increased big time from last season to this season... hopefully next year we see the avg. climb. His power is only a bit higher than last year, he just has more at-bats. He's drawing a lot more walks though. Offensively, the average is the only thing missing.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) Jesus. He has NOT played 1 game at 3B or 2B. I could see if he's played a few games in his career at those positions, even in the minors, but he's played SS every game since he turned pro. (and rightfully so, he is a very good defensive SS) I'm actually going to side with caulfield on this one. In the context of being with the White Sox, it seems a move away from SS (because Alexei is there) is possible. I don't view it as a knock on his defensive ability. It's just that once he gets to the bigs, he's blocked by one of the best SS in baseball. Saladino's bat can play at third so it's worth mentioning. As for his batting average, which I saw referenced higher in the thread, Saladino's first month was awful. He came back from a broken hand (wrist?) and it really set him back to start the year. He missed April and May was pretty much his spring training. He's hitting .281 since the start of June. His strikeout rate is a bit high, but he certainly looks like a solid prospect.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:14 PM) Collin Kuhn moves up to Kanny. Nevin Griffith hits the DL, KW Jr. off the DL. Michael Restovich traded to Arizona. Solid collection of hitting prospects in Kanny right now. Each of the 9 regulars (assuming Kuhn is a regular) is probably a top 50 guy in the system and then obviously Walker and Thompson.

Jackson & Teahen to TOR for Frasor & Stewart (RHP)

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) If he's talking about "4 pitches", that's code for keeping him a starter. Funny thing is none of the scouting reports I read even mentioned a fourth pitch, let alone it being average. I read plus fastball, inconsistent to plus slider and a decent and improving change. I'm sure it's not hard to add a curve or a four-seam fastball or something like that, but it seems odd. -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:39 PM) I just saw on the Sox web site that Zach Stewart is our #4 prospect. I could see that. Not many people still like Thompson, but I had him ahead of Reed when we voted for the midseason rankings. I'm surprised someone else went with that though.

Gotta be in after the win today. Today's game (well, really the series as a whole) was the make or break for me. We'll see how the rest of the trade deadline changes the team. It would be nice to make another move that certainly improves the team instead of this trade, which kind of just changes the team around.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) Sounds to me like the worse case scenario is a year from now we have two, young, cost controlled power armed righties (Stewart & Reed) setting up our young, cost controlled, power closer (Santos). I still think if the Sox fall out of this, they can always spin Frasor for a good prospect. Yeah, Stewart and Reed is pretty awesome coming up. I have a feeling the Sox will try to keep Stewart as a starter though. Stewart is easily in our top 5 prospects. Probably top 3 if you go Viciedo, Reed/Stewart. As for spinning Frasor...the Sox only have a couple games left before the deadline. It's going to be tough to fall out of it that quickly. -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) FYI, there is a lot of open roster space in Birmingham, 3 spots. One is for Terry Doyle, he's coming off the DL Friday. Gilbert is going to Winston-Salem with Pangilinan taking his spot in Kanny. The Intimidators put it on twitter, but it's not official on either roster. Someone from Winston-Salem is going to Birmingham.

Keenyn Walker's move to Kannapolis is official. Question is, who plays center? Trayce or Keenyn? I'll assume Keenyn, but I wonder what they do there.

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 06:46 AM) How many do we currently have on our 40 man roster? If he is added to the 40-man does that not impact service time or is it solely time with the big league club? I see 37 on the 40-man and being added to the 40-man does not impact service time.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 08:34 PM) I actually disagree. My reason being his inning total. Tonight was his 58th inning of the year. Let's assume he is in Charlotte for at least 12 more innings, which is reasonable, then he would be coming into the majors at 70 innings pitched this year. I know he was a starter in college, but relief innings are different since it's an every-other-day thing. I think they will be cautious with him and not promote him to the Majors, also saving service time. September has nothing to do with service time. I'd be shocked if he isn't included in those call ups.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 08:32 PM) Reed in his AAA debut, nothing too fancy, just 1 inning, 2Ks. Nothing else. Jinxed him. He gave up a HR, his second of the year.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) Addison Reed moved to AAA apparently. In the Charlotte box score tonight. Further cementing him as a lock to be in the Majors this year.

Complete White Sox draft and signings list

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 01:12 PM) I'm wondering if the ship has sailed entirely on Gardeck, and thus they start floating some over-slot deals on the latter prep players to compensate. From what Laumann said in the conference call it sounded like Gardeck and O'Shea wouldn't sign. I don't remember what he said exactly, but he didn't expect them to sign because they were too far apart. From the BA scouting report they say Mosier could have gone in the top 10 rounds so he's basically replacing one of those two for value.
