QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 03:53 PM) I definitely think it hit the ground. It did not.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) I'm all for Williams stepping down, however, as the players who are on the ML roster (outside of Beckham, who was a can't miss for whichever team grabbed him) are HIS players and scouted by HIS scouts This team won the division last season and you want the GM to step down because of one lackluster offseason?

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) But he is the guy I am least worried about. He will have it click eventually. He has talent and baseball sense unlike most of his teammates. 3 outs on 3 pitches says a lot to question the baseball sense. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) How about how great Masset looks now? MacDougal also has looked pretty damn good for the Nationals also. MacDougal still looks awful.

Draft Profile - Kyle Gibson, RHP, Missouri
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 01:10 AM) Is it an injury you get from pitching though? Is it because of his mechanics or what? I haven't seen anything drastic and I haven't heard of anything from scouting reports. In fact, most scouts seem so rate him higher than I do so I would imagine a top 5 prospect wouldn't have major injury concerns.

Draft Profile - Kyle Gibson, RHP, Missouri
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 11:06 PM) I mean is it gonna be a re-occuring thing? Is it something to be worried about in the future? First injury I've heard of. I wouldn't be overly concerned if you see him pitch before signing him. It's not Tommy John surgery right now. It's just a stress fracture that he pitched through and came at the end of the season. I don't think it's a big deal if he can show the same stuff after.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 07:43 PM) I don't know... depends on the severity of the injury. They said in the article that he should be healthy enough to pitch before the Aug. 15 signing deadline.

QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 07:31 PM) aftering watching LSU dismantle Rice in 2 games... I have come to the conclusion that I want nothing to do with drafting Jared Mitchell. A raw football player with speed and high upside is not what this team needs. Completely agree. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) Jason, how did Chris Dominguez look? I saw him a couple years ago. He's legit. He's an asshole, but he's very good. Athletic, but I don't like his chances of sticking at 3rd.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) Connor Casey, seriously. Starting. Come on now. He is clearly limited talent wise, but I didn't think he did all the poorly. With Ching out the US really doesn't have much in the way of options up front though. Charlie Davies was on the roster and I love him, but he didn't get in the action. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) Huge win today. Dempsey gets too cute when its not needed that leads to the opening goal. After that though it was just a matter of time before the US scored a couple of goals. Really pushed the action from about the 20 minute mark until the second goal was scored. Mexico lost once again. Going to be real tough next match for the US with Mexico basically playing for their lives. As if playing in Azteca isnt hard enough. Dempsey does get too fancy sometimes, but you can tell he is a lot better than most of what the US has to work with. I watched the Mexico game on Telemundo after the US game was over and it's amazing how poor that team looks. They don't look anything like any Mexico team I can remember. They are in some serious trouble if they lose in Azteca in August.

Draft Profile - Kyle Gibson, RHP, Missouri
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) Should he fall to the Sox, he should be picked by the Sox. Absolutely. I'm still praying Crow drops, but that won't happen. I think Aaron is a much better pro prospect.

Draft Profile - C Diego Seastrunk, Rice
He just threw out Mitchell for LSU, a huge basestealing threat, at 3rd. He made a nice throw at 2nd to get him earlier, but Mitchell had a huge jump. I'm impressed with this guy behind the plate.

I ran on to mlb.com for gameday to see Jenks' last pitch. It said it crossed the plate and it wasn't all that close.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:22 PM) If we needed to get one out, I pick Thornton not Jenks even though he is the closer. I would guess most agree with you. Those one out spots don't always happen in the 9th and Thornton has come in for most of them. I think this actually plays to each pitcher's strengths better. Thornton has come in for the tight spots in the 6th, 7th or 8th. That might have more value than pitching the 9th with the lead.

That was a really good at-bat from Carroll. Dotel didn't make a good pitch 3-2, but Carroll fought off a few decent ones to get to that spot.

Do we get good Dotel or bad Dotel? Great job Floyd.

Draft Profile - C Trevor Coleman, Missouri
Coleman went 5-13 in the regional last weekend. He had 2 errors and teams went 4-4 in SB in the 2 games he played catcher. His hand injury seemed to affect his defense more than his hitting. It was a broken bone in his throwing hand. He should be fine by the time he would be making professional debut. He's legit on d regardless of the injury.

Draft Profile - Kyle Gibson, RHP, Missouri
Gibson has a stress fracture in his pitching arm and won't be able to throw for 6 weeks. My roommate covered the team for the local paper and was calling this for a while. Gibson's velocity had dropped his last few starts. He was in the high 80s in the regional, but pitched really well anyway. I'm not a huge fan of his relative to some of the ratings. BA has him #4 on their draft prospects list, which I think is high, but if he fell to the Sox I'd take him in a heartbeat. This matters because he might fall to the Sox now. BA link

In defense of Ozzie, the weather is miserable. I don't expect him to be in a great mood to play baseball today. That's not necessarily a sign of the clubhouse mood or Ozzie's general mood.
