QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 15, 2013 -> 02:11 AM) I'm at 47% percent, and there are a s*** ton of scary scenes. f*** clickers especially when they're paired with runners. I haven't decided if I like fighting humans or the clickers/runners more. At least humans can't knock you out in seconds like a clicker. I have been playing way too conservatively. I take forever when I have to clear out a room of infected. It seems like the kind of game you need to learn by failing in terms of what strategies are most effective.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 10:57 PM) Cannot stop playing the last of us The tension in this game is off the charts. It ends up being more of a horror game than anything else. I got 19% progress during the day today and stopped. Now I'm watching with the lights off at night and into the first scary part. Clickers are one of the best enemies ever because of how they react to you.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 04:50 PM) XBox has a better network, service and interface. You keep saying this, but we know very little about those with the next gen. Sony is introducing cross-game chat. That was the biggest difference between the two previously. Outside of that changing, we don't know the interface or how the new networks are going to run. Bottom line is the PS4 is cheaper and the hardware is virtually the same. That matters most to a lot of people. The used game policy probably shifts a few more people over, too, regardless of how little that may end up mattering in 3+ years. Sony is winning the PR battle and perception is reality. If I had enough money, I'd happily buy both eventually. If I'm forced to take one, it's easily the PS4. Maybe in a few years with a price drop and a bundle I buy an XBox One.
-
I don't buy used games either and I think digital distribution will make this policy less of an issue later in the generation. That said, many 3rd parties already have online passes for their games meaning if you buy a used game you have to buy an online pass if you want to play multiplayer. That's why so many games are forcing in multiplayer. It's become a requirement as a way to limit used game distribution. Ubisoft and EA already do this for their games. So DRM already exists on current gen in a way.

I think the Hawkins argument is over the wrong topic. Where he plays, as caulfield of all people noted, doesn't matter right now. It's all about what he shows. If you're discussing whether he should get demoted or not, I think you're missing the point. This is a player with catastrophic and phenomenal stats at the same time. The issues are refinement, consistency and progress.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 11:03 PM) Let's write off a 19 year old 1st round pick at High A that did not play much baseball as a high schooler. Sounds like a great idea. I didn't say I was writing him off. All I said is it's hard to be optimistic about him. Fact is most prospects fail so the odds are against Hawkins to begin with. Prospects with astronomical K rate fail even more often. He has a chance, just not a good one.
-
I know he's young, but that's an awfully big ask to have him go from 'below average pitch recognition' with a 'wild swing' to being a productive Major Leaguer. Obviously he's talented in some areas, but I'm surprised people are still optimistic about Hawkins.
-
Hawkins up to 0-5, 5 K. Dash are in extras. I'm rooting for the kid, but I laughed a little to myself at that stat line.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) Well, he threw 98 IP in high school. That's not unheard of, but there will be other top HS arms that threw half that much. His season ran long due to postseason, but I'm guessing his arm was very recently abused. Wouldn't be the worst thing to pitch him in the bullpen for a little while, at least. Maybe not the entire short season. Yeah 98 is very high, but no unheard of. Some staff aces in this area are around 50-60 IP, but that's because they had such a late start to the season due to bad weather.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 07:52 PM) Exactly. That is why every penny you can save in the first 10 rounds it huge. It's only potentially huge. The player still needs to bite. Regardless, the White Sox seem to have done quite well. Now let's develop these guys...

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 08:39 PM) Without big developers like EA, Activision, & Ubisoft there will major droughts throughout the year and in key genres. For f***'s sake, EA isn't even putting a Madden on the system this year. I think Ubisoft is the only third party really going in on the Wii U. Between Zombie U, the Assassin's Creed games always coming to Wii U and a few others they've supported it pretty well.

US looked solid tonight. Given the remaining schedule the US should win the hex even if Mexico gets it together. US just needs to care of business at home to win the hex again. -
Nintendo may lose this gen, but can still recover. The decision to go with current gen graphics 7 years after the fact is very odd.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 10:24 PM) For me the most important thing is exlusive games and I like the Xbox ones better. I don't really get all the fanboy PS4 vs. Xbox. If I had the money I would probably buy both. I actually agree with both parts to some extent. Exclusive games do matter a lot and I was impressed with the XBox exclusives. Also, if I had plenty of disposable income I probably would buy both. I still might, but not for years. The problem is I find it hard to justify buying a console just for the exclusives because there aren't that many in a year when the consoles have a lot of redundant capabilities. I bought the PS3 because of the Blu-ray drive and use that. I'm simply going to buy a PS4 because it's cheaper and I've already played those exclusives so I want to play the next Uncharted, Infamous.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 10:13 PM) Sony failed today IMO in everything outside of price. For a system that's supposed to be aimed at hardcore gamers, you'd think they'd be able to show a presentation that wasn't in-engine. The games looked worse. Watchdogs certainly didn't look next gen. Microsoft is ahead of them in the media center idea and they have the network to back it. I'm bored with gaming right now so I won't be buying either, but with integration options in the Xbox, I'd probably go that route. Regardless, you're probably better off going with the console that's more popular and I wouldn't bet on Sony. The systems run virtually the same tech so the graphics will probably be identical. PS4 has more memory, but that doesn't always matter unless you're pushing the machine.
-
Microsoft does have a chance to bundle or price drop, but I don't see how you pick XBox over PS4 right now. At $500 I was probably going to wait a bit, but at $400 I'm pre-ordering.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 09:47 PM) Never mind.. You now have to pay to play online multiplayer. This is true, but I have PS Plus and it pays for itself if you play a decent number of games. It's $60 a year and you get discounts on various things, which obviously add up to dollar value and best of all you get free games as long as you're subscribed. Infamous 2, Little Big Planet 2, Spec Ops: The Line, Uncharted Vita and others have been free. You can get your money's worth and then some or simply get some extra value and make it cost less than the current XBox model.

The organization's first task will be to inform him that there is no singular 'Sock' in the team nickname.

Indiana really shouldn't be good at baseball. Bad conference, mediocre region, mediocre finances for baseball. Bizarre that they made it. No surprise that it's the first time they've made it and the first time in 29 years that a Big Ten team has made it. A lot of programs should be looking in the mirror realizing they had more to work with than IU and didn't get close.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 08:41 PM) Can anyone fill me in on the end of the Chase Blackwood saga? It seems like Bren disappeared from here and Chase disappeared from the MiLB without a trace. He got released at some point. That's all I remember.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 03:38 PM) You're jumping the gun here. He hasn't even been playing for a full year yet and he suffered an injury. For all we know, they're making him do something that will make him strikeout a lot. I'd be a little bit more patient. I'm not jumping the gun. He was pathetic for the first two months of the season. No way around it. I'm just saying I won't believe in him until the K rate drops. I didn't say I don't think he can. I'm just not going to concern myself with the number of homers he hits or anything else until the K rate goes below 30. Even in the high 20s there are serious issues, but at least there's hope at that point.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 11:18 AM) I'll bet it is someone from the White Sox academy again Correct. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) This Ro Coleman is from Simeon Career Academy, and I see in Round 33 the Mariners drafted Corey Ray from Simeon Academy. Notice one has Career in the name of Academy and the other does not. Anyone know the difference in the schools? I assume Ray is from the one that has the good baseball and basketball teams year in and year out. They're all from the same Simeon. 3 kids from that school were drafted, which is quite sad considering they were a good, not great team this spring.

I don't think Engel is that big of a get. He has tools, but I think he'd be much better served going back to school for another year.
-
He's been better since the return, but that K rate is still in red flag territory. If he cuts it to something below 30 for an extended period this season I'll believe he's OK again. Until then, I'm doubtful that K rate allows him to succeed in the Majors.
