All New Soccer Thread ~ All Levels ~ All Leagues

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 07:56 PM) And what a f***ing joke the ref was tonight. Typical CONCACAF BS. Honduras just hacked away at us all night and the ref sat there with his whistle up his ass. Clear PK against Holden that should have been a red and nothing. Forearm to the GK head and nothing. But Jurgen argues a call and gets a red. The EJ gets a yellow for nothing. That Holden elbow was not intentional, it wasn't anywhere near a red. I'm not sure you can even give it a yellow because the defender was in the better position and did so without fouling. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 12:30 PM) You guys think if Semien and Micah Johnson keep having great seasons that we can Semein start at 2b in AAA next year and Micah in AA next year? That's where they should start.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 07:54 PM) Entering today, Micah has a 1.1 BB% in A+ compared to 11% in A- Yeah, his numbers are notably down in High-A. He's not walking (though he did walk today) and he's not hitting for much power (though he has 4 XBH in his last 6 games).

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 09:38 PM) Anyone else impressed with Jacobs so far in Birmingham? He has shown he can hit so far and has real good at bats and driving in runs. I'm not so sure I'd call it impressed, more like perplexed. He has a hit in each of his 7 games with the team, but today was also his first day without a strikeout. He has a couple walks, which is fine, but only one extra base hit (a double). The average is strangely high, the power bizarrely low and the strikeout rate is worryingly high. I've seen worse starts to the AA adjustment so I guess you can be impressed.

Norton, you're the greatest! This year the best parts of the broadcasts are the flashback highlights.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 06:41 PM) Olacio hasn't allowed an ER in at least 20 IP. He must have a wicked sinker. 2.37 GO/AO this year.
-
I'm not sure he does have the glove to stick at SS. That's not what I've read more recently. That scouting report was from when he was drafted. There's a big difference between a very good college SS and a good pro SS.
-
I'm starting to get on the Semien bandwagon. I'm still not convinced that he'll be more than a utility player in the Majors, but it's starting to look like he will at least get his shot.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 08:15 AM) I think he should probably move up to W-S at some point this season. He's already 23, so you'd like to push him a little bit. Agreed. He should be pushed, and besides these numbers pretty much warrant it. The encouraging thing is his college numbers were nowhere near this. Maybe the Sox were able to tinker with something simple and it clicked for him.

White Sox sign Micker Zapata for $1.6 million

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 08:18 AM) Does the fact that he's an American kid mean he may go to Bristol sooner than later? Or allow him to spend time in instructional leagues in the fall or anything like that? The fact that there won't be any visa issues has to help speed things up a bit. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 05:56 PM) And as others have pointed out, his K-rate has improved as the season has gone on. If he's working on improving on the bad habits...then he is actually developing. That's wrong. His K rate has ballooned back up in July.
-
QUOTE (jthunder93 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 03:50 PM) Anyone have any idea why Ayala was pulled in the Bristol game? Was it an injury when he flew out in the 2nd? The Bristol White Sox are playing in Bluefield, West Virginia and Kanny is over in Charleston, WV, as they play the West Virginia Power. Possible call-up? I dunno, I'm just throwing possibilities out there. If that is the case, then I don't know why they would only give him one at-bat, as it's not like Kanny or Bristol is leaving West Virginia today. Bristol did have some players who swung the bat well today... Toby Thomas was 2-for-4 with a triple, 2 runs, and 1 RBI. Patrick Palmeiro was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, 1 run, and 2 RBI. 6 runners successfully stole bases against Angel Rosario. Are you related to Ayala or something?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) With the new park this year, have we gotten some feedback on how it is playing? Minor league park factors usually come out after the season or before next season. After roughly looking at the H/A splits for Barons hitters, I think it plays slightly towards the hitters.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 09:04 PM) Ravelo was replaced as a pinch hitter and he was DH-ing tonight. For the next 13 days, if I see something like this, I'm going to assume the player was traded. Seriously though, the deadline can't get here soon enough. He scored from second on an error by the first baseman his previous trip. It's possible there was a play at the plate and he got hurt.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 08:36 PM) Anderson 1-6, 3 K. He's been pretty good with the bat though. I'm not so sure he has. His K/PA is 28.4% after today. His assignment straight to Kannapolis was too aggressive IMO, but still, that's concerning.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 07:47 PM) I'd bet that one of Rios, Viciedo, and/or De Aza gets traded in the next two weeks. That's fine, but that doesn't really alter the AA OF. None of those guys should move up.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 06:43 PM) OF Brandon Short also released. That's the OF overflow we knew was coming with Jacobs' arrival. Earley moved up to AAA, which is good for him. When Konerko finishes his rehab it will be interesting to see where each of those guys plays. Thompson is the only one with the arm for RF so he will probably stay there like today. Jacobs probably splits between LF and DH, but I have a feeling they will give him more time in LF to continue to work on his defense. That leaves Walker and Mitchell splitting CF and DH on most days. Let's see if it plays out that way.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 06:47 PM) Walker is what I'd call a disappointment, but not a bust yet. He was raw for his age and should have been playing in A-ball this year. We tend to push guys to age-appropriate levels even when their production hasn't merited it and he is a case of that. Eventually he'll make it to AAA and we won't be able to push him too fast anymore. Look for him to figure out AAA after two or three seasons ala Jordan Danks. Are you saying Walker is going to turn into another Jordan Danks?
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 06:48 AM) If you can hit .250 during your "slump", that's not bad. True, but that's not the number that was worrying me. I'm far more concerned about the lack of walks and power so far. It's just something to watch. Far too early to make a judgment on.
-
Micah Johnson slump alert. He's 8-32 in the last 7 games and has just two extra base hits, no homers and one walk in 12 games since joining the Dash.
-
I'm not so sure this won't be a case where the NCAA will strongly recommend against it to the schools.
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 12:20 PM) POTW or POTY? Ha, I saw that too. I wondered why there would be a player of the year award with over a month left in the season. It's been fixed.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 12:23 PM) I think he can fit in as a sub if you're desperate for wide play and down a goal. He is awful 90% of the time, but he can make the big play happen. In soccer the big play can be everything. Shea used as he should be today: as a sub. It wasn't even a good finish and Donovan's ball was freaking awesome, but he still was there. Donovan is an automatic starting 11 player in Brazil. He always was for me, but now there won't be any controversy to go with it. -
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 11:14 AM) It depends what game mode you play. Playing Vs on 13 is quite fun. I pretty exclusively play 6 on 6 online and there are a lot of flaws in the game that the 6 vs 6 community has gripes about. Things like how easy it is to play goalie, all goalies have to do to dominate online is sit in the middle of the crease in butterfly and make their player 6'9" and its nearly impossible to score. Also, if you spam the Y button (triangle on ps3) while skating behind someone with the puck you can "ghost poke" it away from them, its just a very glitchy game online. A large part of the community has stopped playing NHL 13 because of the goalie issue. If youre bored here is a video of someone playing goalie like that in the league I play in, its Minnesotas goalie on the bottom of the screen. Its become an epidemic in the game. There's been a similar problem in FIFA since they introduced the goalie in 11. There are way too many GKs that you just can't score on unless it's a header in a perfect set up or a 2 on 0 breakaway. I love that mode in FIFA, but the game didn't run very well after a while. I'd have lag almost every game that was unplayable and the game would freeze in the lobby screens for everyone. I just got fed up. Hopefully next gen will allow for better online play.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 05:38 PM) It makes no less sense than having him rated as the Sox #1 prospect. Who still does?
