I haven't touched a Madden game in years. From the idiotic and frustrating QB vision to all the other complicated s*** it's hard to pick up Madden and play. However, as someone who buys FIFA every year and never regrets it I am always amazed by how many game modes and features are in FIFA each year. Sure, the game play slowly progresses and after I put a couple hundred hours into the game I end up getting sick of the things that annoy me and don't want to play it anymore, but there are so many different game modes that game take up your time. I get infuriated by the dumb s*** that happens in a game sometimes, but I put so many hours into the game before I get fed up with it that it's absolutely worth the money every year. I'm not sure if Madden is the same way, but I'm defending another annual EA sports franchise.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 11:18 PM) So does the organization pick the players for AFL? Yes.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) Semien is a slight surprise to me. With the season he's had, the only argument I can see for sending him is gearing him up for tough stuff so he can be on the squad next year... but I don't know that its necessary. I think the Sox are just trying to figure out what they have with Semien. He was such a surprise this season that they probably just want more evaluation time.

http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20130826 Amazed this wasn't already up. In fairness, not much to rave about. Blough had a CG shutout for the Dash.

I've noticed all of them winning before.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 25, 2013 -> 08:47 PM) I'm actually curious if the Sox organization had Beck work on certain pitches in Winston-Salem. He's been throwing a lot less groundballs in Birmingham so far. I noticed that too. It would explain the promotion.
-
QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 25, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) He had two abysmal months. I find it hard to understand how he's promotable after having a really pedestrian year. He didn't even do that well in Kannapolis last year. OK, I misread his stats. Also, I wouldn't really call it a promotion when an offseason is involved. I'm not saying put him in AA for the playoffs, but he could see AA next year.

Beck with a dominant outing. The Ks are coming more frequently in AA. I'm very happy with his season when looking at the progression.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) Nathaniel Stoltz @stoltz_baseball 2m Kannapolis RHP Tyler Danish 86-90 w/big sink, 78-80 SL with bite, 81-83 CH. Still can't get over the arm action. I can't get over an upper 80s fastball from a RHP. That's what concerns me about him. Pretty limited upside for pitchers like that.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 24, 2013 -> 09:00 PM) DeMichele with a walk off grand slam. I wonder if we see him in AA next year? It's certainly possible. He's only really had one bad month and he's had a great August.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 24, 2013 -> 07:15 PM) Do you guys think we can see Barnum, Anderson and May all start next year with WS? No. I don't think any of them will. Maybe May with a good spring.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 24, 2013 -> 07:43 PM) Wasn't his left leg dragging across the plate too? I don't think it dragged to actually touch the plate. -
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 24, 2013 -> 06:02 PM) I wonder where they will start Micah next year. I guess this move will just be to give him some more AB's with the Dash out of the playoff picture, not because he's deserving/in line for a promotion. Excellent contact rate aside, his performance in A+ has been very disappointing. It has, but I still think he should start next year in AA just to get him at an age appropriate level.

Glad to see Goldberg pushed up. If the Sox plan on keeping him in the bullpen I'd like to see him start 2014 in AA.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 07:03 PM) Hawkins is batting .184. Bust until he's not. Sorry Matt, but I agree with this. Hawkins is so bad that the words I really want to use to describe his performance would probably piss people off. I'm most concerned about the fact that his numbers have seriously regressed in August. His worst batting average and with much less power. I'm not giving up hope, but after watching video of him it's clear he has no f***ing clue what he's doing up there. Hopefully he reads s*** like this (since he's getting bashed everywhere) and dedicates himself. He's clearly young enough to turn it around, but he has so far to go it's just not likely.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 10:22 AM) Maybe someone should tell Tyler that. I'm sorry but that's a real stupid way of thinking. I know that you're alluding to the fact that it's not just about the stats but about development, but you can't just throw the stats out the window either. Tyler Danish's stats say a lot. Just as do Nick Parent's. I would pretty much guarantee the White Sox say something to that effect to all their high school draft picks, especially the pitchers. They are taking these guys from heavy workloads in the spring to by far the toughest level of competition they have seen in their lives. Danish is throwing short outings out of the bullpen. It's a safe bet that he's never been a reliever for a prolonged period in his pitching career. Knowing the pitch limits and (temporary) adjustment to relief they told him that it doesn't matter if you fail or succeed. Just do your thing when you're out there. He's doing that and that's great, but I'm not going to judge a starting pitching prospect on what he does as an 18-year-old out of the bullpen. I don't see why this is so hard to understand.
-
QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 08:55 PM) So we should pay no mind to Tyler Danish too, or does this rule only apply when the stats are bad? You are correct. What he is doing currently does not matter.
-
QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 08:25 PM) I think he's still only 23. I have been keeping an eye on him too. Bucciferro, Lopez, and Cose are very interesting pitchers that don't get much talk. If one of them hits and becomes a real impact prospect that would be huge. QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 08:30 PM) Thaddius Lowry continues to be unimpressive. Still only 18, but discouraging from a 5th round pick. How do these posts come from the same person? You're defending a 23-year-old in A ball for 'only being 23' and then are 'discouraged' by an 'unimpressive' 18-year-old in rookie ball. Do yourself a favor and pay little to no attention to an 18-year-old's stats.

http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20130822 May staying hot with a HR. Great to see him adjust to the promotion after a dreadful start at Kanny. Bassitt dominating early for Birmingham. He's starting to look like an actual prospect.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) I believe they typically use 45 service days. Unofficially, there are only 41 service days left. He could be called up today and still retain rookie and prospect eligibility heading into next season. Or he could hit 50 innings, but that won't happen. Rienzo will hit 50 innings and not 45 (pre-September) service days.

If anyone else on Soxtalk owns a Playstation Vita and wants a beta code for Killzone Mercenary PM me. I signed up for the beta, but I didn't realize it was free on PS Plus so I was getting it anyway.

Joey DeMichele homered in his first AB. He's finally showing some life in August.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 09:39 PM) another K for Jacobs....at least Thornton has been a non-factor for the Red Sox I'll actually buy into the 'working on something' line here. He went from 10 K in 52 AB to 27 K in 55 AB. I realize the sample size is small, but the difference there is enormous.
