  1. 2 HR for Michalczewski, his first 2 as a pro. With his strong walk rate and hopefully developing power, he's teasing his talent enough to make me optimistic about him.
  2. I know everyone is down on Keenyn Walker, but I'm still holding out some hope for him because he's walking a ton, especially lately. He has 62 walks in 374 AB and 10 in his last 10 games. Obviously he's hitting .202 and slugging .280 so it's still a very bad season, but when you're hitting that poorly and leading the league in stolen bases you would think pitchers would want to pitch to you. Maybe he's just not chasing the junk and it won't translate in the Majors, but his plate discipline is looking extremely strong. He won't need to hit for power if he can get his average to a respectable level. He's got good speed, plays solid D and walks a lot. If he hits even .260 he has a Major League career.
  3. QUOTE (Boogua @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 12:50 PM) Pele or maradona? Messi.
  4. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 10:23 PM) Two more perfect innings for Danish brings his ERA down to 1.80. He's doing well, but I'm not sure there's too much we can take away from his production this year due to limited innings and relief outings. Next year will be interesting though.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) Wanna see Garcia's homer? http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?con...05&sid=t494 This is why some baseball people really like him. He hasn't hit for much power in the Majors yet, but he clearly has the capability.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:20 PM) Jacobs homers Gotta like what he's doing in AA. Good contact rate and the power is starting to come lately. Just need a few more walks.
  7. I agree and am shocked by this move. However, I'm blown away by the money Sounders are paying. $9 million transfer fee and 4 year/$32 million contract. That's big time anywhere. Dempsey wasn't going to make that much in salary over the next four years and Seattle's home crowds are fantastic. I'm trying to think of this as a positive sign for MLS than a negative club move for Dempsey, even if it is.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 06:57 PM) I'm sure someone would site the 7 month age difference in favor of Cecchini, but it just blows my mind that one guy is considered a top 75 prospect in baseball by this board and the other couldn't even crack our mid-season top 10 list. In fairness, Semien's buzz started in July after the midseason list came out.
  9. For Kanny, Anderson still at SS and Rondon debuting at 2B.
  10. Wilkins' K rate is higher than Overbay and Gload so I'm not sure he will hit for average like either of those guys did.
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 06:59 PM) I'd flip-flop Anderson and Hawkins and then put Wilkins in for Snodgress and then totally agree. You gotta get off this Wilkins thing. An .815 OPS for a 24-year-old in AAA isn't top 10 material.
  12. I think Garcia goes ahead of Johnson. I'm having a hard time placing Semien. I still think Thompson rates ahead of him, but I could see putting him a 4. Sorry to cop out, but I would like to see Semien keep this pace up for a bit to see if he truly belongs there. The problem is the poor performances of Hawkins and Anderson kind of forces the issue.
  13. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) TalkSox (Boston message board) basically laughed at the prospects they had to give. They had initially wondered if Owens was involved and were both relieved and ecstatic when the package was released. Obviously there's a lot to like with Montas. Reminds of Jenks when we picked him up for nothing. Jenks had a much better curve as a prospect. He had two plus (arguably plus-plus) pitches. Montas simply has velocity and some nice peripherals in Low A. I like the pick up, but he's not Jenks. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) With Boston taking on all of Peavy's salary, I think the Sox did pretty well. Also, Garcia>Iglesias. Boston didn't part with the best piece the Sox got so they should scoff.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) Analysis here, from very late last night. Take a look. Hey, it's not my fault the trade details finalized around 11 p.m. Get a late trade, get a later post.
  15. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:12 PM) That's a bit extreme. First we had Phegley. Then there's Jacobs, although that's just a few games. But there's Wilkins, Black, Ravelo, Michael Johnson, Anderson (who hasn't exactly been terrible), Shryock. Jacob May, Basto, Thompson and Barnum have had some moments. It's not all abysmal. You're stretching a bit on some of those. Have you seen May and Basto's numbers in Kanny?
  16. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:35 AM) Think we should have gotten some/a prospect(s) who was/were further along with a couple A ball lottery tickets. I don't understand. Isn't that exactly what this deal is? Garcia has 139 MLB plate appearances to his name. That's as far along as a prospect can get (almost literally if you say they aren't prospects once they hit 150 PA like most places). The Sox also got 3 A ball lottery tickets and Montas has some legit value. If people want to compare this to the Garza deal, I think this is better. Olt and Grimm should have just about as much value as the A ball throw ins the Sox got tonight. Neither one has even proven they can hack it in even AAA and both turn 25 in less than a month. Then you're comparing Edwards to Garcia, which can be debated. Peavy has an ERA above 4. He's not going to bring in a massive haul. This is a good haul and the Sox didn't have to give any money. It's a productive trade for the future of this club. The Sox need young hitting talent at so many positions and this is one less to worry about.
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:16 PM) No reason to freak out about Anderson. He's been fine. Sample was small. He was batting .320 a week ago True, but the peripherals were always bad. They just caught up with him.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 10:30 PM) Sanchez 3-5, triple, walk One of the best games of his season. I still have some hope for him. He's just not a very high ceiling guy. I would like to see Semien in Charlotte soon though. No rush for the Majors, but I want to see him move up before the season ends. Euclides Leyer made his first relief appearance tonight for Kanny. I wonder who steps into the rotation. Maybe Goldberg with the way he's been pitching? You'd think they might want to keep his innings down though.
  19. I'll just remind everyone that Carlos Sanchez hit .370 in his time with Birmingham. I wouldn't mind seeing Semien get a month in AAA though.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) Michalczewski might be a butcher at 3rd. 2 errors in the first inning. He is new to the position. Played mostly SS in high school so it's worth giving him the benefit of the doubt. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 08:28 PM) Jacobs 2-2. Hitting 393 in 9 games with Barons. He's not the player we thought he was. High average, very low power. Interesting.
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 04:51 PM) Isn't it Mayo? It is and he's good, but for some reason the team top 20s are terrible. I don't think they have a big dedicated milb staff like Baseball America, for example. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 05:28 PM) Hawkins still the only one in the top 100 huh? Erik Johnson just doesn't get respect I'm not sure the top 100 is updated.
  22. The MLB.com rankings aren't worth discussion.
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) Obviously Rienzo has been ridiculous as of late but I'm curious if there was a reason he got off to such a bad start this season? It was a bad time in his roid cycle.
  24. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:22 PM) But, everybody rates Hawkins waaay above Semien. I don't get it. If Hawkins had those numbers....... Give it a little while. It's going to be hard to rate Hawkins at all if he doesn't improve soon.
