Jared Mitchell to AAA
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) Walker has made some pretty strong strides this year. To me it comes down to what there value is. The potential upside is there. I'd be irritated if the Sox traded a guy like them for Myers. Well yeah, but we saw how little it took to get Myers. Walker's value is a big step up from what Heidenreich/Walters have.

Jared Mitchell to AAA
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 04:21 PM) I'm actually starting to like Walker more than Mitchell. I think Mitchell has a better skillset, but he can't seem to put it together. I'd be 100% ok with 1 of them being gone for sure, but I don't want them both to be traded. I don't know if I'd go as far as to say I like Walker over Mitchell yet, but it's definitely close. I prefer Thompson to both at this point because his power is a tool that has translated into a real skill. Walker has the speed and Mitchell supposedly has his back, but it's all projection for these three offensively other than Thompson's power. I'd miss Thompson a bit if we traded him, but I can't say the same for Mitchell or Walker if it comes in the form of a nice SP.

2012 Summer Olympics Thread
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 12:30 PM) Usain Bolt lost twice to Yohan Blake at Olympic trials. I'm betting Bolt still wins easily in London. I'd take that bet. Bolt is the underdog and it's even less likely he wins easily. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) team USA getting worked early again. That turned in a hurry. Melo is on fire. Amazing the kind of player he can be when he's not the main option for an offense.

Jared Mitchell to AAA
So my question is, if we trade Walker and Mitchell is anyone going to miss these players? They're far from sure things to even make the Majors at all.

Sox trade for Brett Myers
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 02:40 PM) It's not clear whether it's finishes/closes or just appears in....from the looks of it, it's 40-50 appearances. That must have been something that KW and Luhnow discussed in terms of future payroll obligations. OR, KW really has grave concerns about Reed and just picked up a $10 million veteran closer for 2013, the antithesis of the youth movement in the pen. That really makes the money tight for AJ, Youkilis, Floyd and another starter for next year. Only 2 of those 4 will fit. Picking up a $10 million option for a 32 year old reliever of Myers' caliber would be completely inexcusable.

Sox trade for Brett Myers
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) Thoughts on Walters being included in this deal? I don't think of him as much of a prospect, but he's having a nice season. He's been getting hit hard with Winston-Salem, but his K:BB is nice. 24 K to 4 BB in 25.2 innings.

Sox trade for Brett Myers
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 02:28 PM) FutureSox.com @FutureSox #WhiteSox reportedly send Blair Walters @bwalters34 to Houston, according to a tweet by @MoneyMikeEarley Good catch, but that doesn't mean he's the only piece of the trade. He could be depending on the money involved.

Sox trade for Brett Myers
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 02:20 PM) That $3 million buyout will lower the return, plus his salary this year is 11 million, so you're looking at something like $3.5 million in salary alone....it won't be a great prospect if they're taking on all that salary and the buyout as well. I didn't initially realize the dollars. You can bet the Sox aren't paying the whole salary, but it could be a situation where they give a better prospect to pay less of Myers' contract.

Sox trade for Brett Myers
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 02:16 PM) I'll guess Andy Wilkins and Matt Heidenreich. That's awfully optimistic. I don't expect Myers to hold much value, but what would be the point of them trading for those two? Maybe Heidenreich and someone with a bit more value than Wilkins. The Sox have a history of trading guys soon after a promotion to try and improve the player's value though.

Sox trade for Brett Myers
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 02:14 PM) I'll go Petricka and some other A-baller. That would have made sense, but I think the fact that they just promoted him makes me think he's not involved.

2012 Minor League Catch All thread
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 12:53 PM) Damn. haha. I Before that then!!! I think Ryan Sweeney. He was 20 at B'ham in 2005. I don't remember any others that did it. If you ask me to go further back I'd have to actually look this stuff up.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 11:07 AM) When was the last time the Sox had a 20-year-old in AA? I wonder where the Sox see him in the future. Probably lacks the power to be a 3rd baseman, but does he have the D to play SS? Maybe he replaces Gordon is he can't get rolling in a couple years. Dayan was 20 in his pro debut at B'ham.

Jacob Petricka, Carlos Sanchez to AA. Erik Johnson, Daniel Wagner to High-A. AFL implications with Petricka and Sanchez reaching AA.

7/19 Games
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 07:21 PM) Heidenreich blows. HA! I get the sarcasm, but it's funny how fast the tide can turn with a player. Also, Walker is in LF leading off for the Dash. Trayce remains the CFer.

7/17 Games
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 07:36 PM) IIRC, didn't the Sox have a chance to take Hunter Morris instead of Wilkins? Wilkins was taken in the 5th round. You can't nitpick like that past the first couple rounds. Besides, I looked up Morris...he was a fourth rounder.

Sox sign Luis Castillo out of DR for $450k
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 05:41 PM) I see your point, but it seems to me like there is not a natural movement up the ladder from DSL to Bristol, Kanny, etc, almost as if it's a recreational league. There are a couple of exceptions, I'm sure. I know the Rockies promoted a young pitcher from DSL who was lights out, but he has not appeared yet on the roster of their Rookie League team. Might be Visa problems, language, whatever. Or it might be that I am impatient, but if we have some kid who is really raking, I would like to see him promoted to a higher level. Generally the DSL players don't get promoted in the middle of a season. It typically happens in the offseason.

I gotta admit, Shoemaker is impressing me. I'm still a doubter because 25 in AA is nothing to write home about, but he is raking.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 11:40 PM) Voyagers, best logo in the system? I still like the Knights' one best. Elegant, fearsome, sharp. Other than the Barons' I think they're all cool. Though the phallic Dash logo is questionable.

AAP Eric Grabe
QUOTE (Indy_Soxer @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) Been following Grabe for the past week. How did we get him at 24th? Is he just having an outstanding season and will drop off, is his ceiling too low? seems to be doing very well, albeit in the appy league. Just seems like we got a steal with him so far. There's no questions it's impressive, but rookie ball is such a crap shoot in terms of predicting performance. It's such a mix of talent and experience and is a much higher level than anyone in the league has seen before (other than the repeats). You just never know who is going to adjust well.
