QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 01:21 PM) I mean isn't this true of pretty much every international signee though? Yeah, that's why it's not worth getting excited about him yet. Key word yet.
-
I like Goldstein. I don't know why you'd get so worked up over him.
-
That name doesn't really ring a bell, but I'll take your word on it. The only knee injury I could find was a 15th rounder in 09 out of a Florida HS, Dane Williams, but the Sox didn't sign him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) Didn't Heidenreich have some kind of knee issues when he was drafted? Or am I thinking of someone else? That would be news to me and would be odd for a high school kid taken in the 4th round, but that doesn't mean you're wrong. BA's draft day scouting report doesn't mention it, but they also only had a short report on him.
-
Yeah, Heidenreich is a nice prospect, but his stuff and K rate don't wow anyone so he's not going to vault up the list anytime soon.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 11:41 PM) Joey DeMichelle 4-6 with a 2B, 3 runs, 3 RBI tonight, see ya later Gordon Beckham. Ha I was just wondering tonight how long it would take for someone to make a comment like this. This was definitely the under in my mind.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 08:50 PM) Speaking of injuries, I never saw what the reasons were for Castro/Barnum to be placed on the DL? Barnum is a 'minor' shoulder injury.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) ESPN saying they can't tell after several replays and therefore the ump made the right call, definitely looked safe to me. Comcast freeze framed it to show he was safe. It's not all that close when you factor in that tie goes to the runner. If it's that close the runner is supposed to be safe. Pathetic call. -

QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 06:33 PM) If anyone subscribes to Baseball America, there's an in depth scouting report available. Basically it says what the Trib report says. He plays good defense and has good speed. He's outside BA's top 20, but was listed in the 'more players to watch' under shortstops.

So this guy got the bonus slot for the 106th pick. Notable, but nothing exciting.
-
Cheers. Nice day to be born.

Heidenreich becomes the youngest Baron by a year and a half. The lack of strikeouts make me doubt he's a big prospect, but age vs. level will flatter him if he holds his own.

Omogrosso has nice stuff. He's gotta locate a bit better with the fastball. He got unlucky on that double to be fair. That curve reminds me of Jenks. -
Sounds like a bunch of lawsuits waiting to happen. You'd have to think tons of people get hurt during this. Not to mention, these buildings will have to be rehabbed to some extent to avoid injuries just from being all hyped up on adrenaline in a run-down building. There's practically no way this gets support from the city.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 10:45 AM) ah, OK, so it is an age eligibility thing. That makes some sense, thanks. Ha that answer seemed so obvious to me that I didn't just say that. I guess that explains why none of the answers seem to clue you in on what you were confused about.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 07:45 AM) No interest. Lizard is lame and the new Peter Parker looks like a cocky douche rather than an awkward nerd. That's been my gripe with how this one looks. Parker doesn't seem to fit what I would hope to see. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 12:03 PM) Yes it was crappy casting, Dunst isnt even a redhead so it wasnt like they needed her to be MJ. MJ should be way hotter. That's another thing...they make Dunst a redhead and then get Emma Stone for a movie and make her a blonde! WTF

July 2 is the first day you can sign a new crop of foreign-born players. Forget the signing cap.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 07:33 PM) Thompson hit those two homers off a righty having a good season. Thompson is having a bizarre season so far. He is hitting .246/.322/.551 against righties with 13 of his 16 HR against them. Meanwhile, lefties are killing him to the tune of .195/.297/.356 in 87 AB. He is walking a bit more against lefties, but other than that everything is worse. If he had normal lefty/righty splits for a right-handed batter with his numbers against righties he'd be having a phenomenal season. Last year he had a .951 OPS against lefties and a .721 against righties. What on earth could cause such a sharp swing?

Shoemaker is entering cult status territory. Leo Daigle and David Cook among others had similar resumes and didn't make the bigs.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 10:25 AM) Glad to see those guys getting moved up. Especially Gallagher and Shoe. Gallagher was in Charlotte last year and started there this year. He was in AA because he was struggling in AAA earlier this year. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 12:37 PM) Not sure I get moving Ross Wilson up though. He's been playing OF lately, but he's been an IF until recently, and he's not exactly crushing the ball in Kanny for a 24 year old repeating it (though he is drawing a lot of walks). Would have thought for sure it would be Haddow. Wilson did fine there last year and this year. He didn't really need to repeat the level in the first place. It was time to move him up. Plus with DeMichele moving up Kanny needed to clear out possible second basemen.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 11:25 AM) So whats the story on this kid? He wasn't a 1st or 2nd round pick, but seems to be pretty good. Does he project to be a legit major Leaguer? Why did other teams pass on him? He was still a 3rd round pick that played at Arizona State so seeing him do well in rookie ball is unsurprising. In fact, it was probably expected. That said, he is a nice middle infield prospect in a system with not a ton there.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 07:46 PM) There aren't many true Cs in the NBA. In games against the Dwight Howards of the world, not having Asik hurts. But not many teams have 7-foot centers. Most nights having Taj play against the team's 5 is fine. And Asik is awful. He plays solid D because of his height. But cannot hit FTs. Picks up way too many fouls. And has no offensive game whatsoever. He turns the ball over a ton. Doesn't pass well. He is incredibly overrated. 'The Dwight Howards of the world'? Shouldn't that just read: Dwight Howard? Who is even remotely close to his level at that position?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 04:42 PM) Unstoppable (Denzel, Pine) - it was actually pretty enjoyable. We were flipping and it was starting and we enjoyed it. Ha, I stumbled upon that as well and the pacing of it was good, but man that movie was incredibly, laughably stupid.
