  1. As far as E3 stuff goes I was really impressed with Tomb Raider.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 11:01 PM) I wonder what they see in Jaffe from UCLA. Big kid, but walked 10 and struck out 3 in 7.2 IP in relief this season. Didn't allow a run though. Selected in the 19th round by the Red Sox in 2010. As Jason said a few times ago he has big stuff and is a big talent. BA said low 90s fastball and a power curve. They mentioned 'mental issues' though.
  3. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) Sox better spend entire allotment. I really don't care at this point other than getting all these guys signed. I like the picks they made on paper.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 09:00 PM) Ravelo is 3/3 with a SB. Up to .332. Time to move him up to High-A WS, huh? Ravelo is barely above .800 with his OPS. He's far from dominating. He should stay in Kanny all year.
  5. The last two pitchers definitely profile as relievers and Beck could wind up there as well. I'd complain, but the Sox are good at developing relievers. Draft towards your development strengths, gotta like that. Plus, the last two guys (Hansen and Isler) have plus fastballs. Any time you can get that after the first few rounds you've done well.
  6. Saladino doesn't seem to like hitting in Birmingham. His away OPS is almost .200 higher.
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 02:55 PM) I like all of these players more than Lance Broadway/Keenyn Walker Don't compare Walker to first round picks. Does anyone compare Josh Phegley to first round picks? No. Walker was a supplemental pick, which means he should still be a pretty damn good prospect, but he wasn't picked as high as Broadway/Sale/Fields/Hawkins etc. Just because the Sox didn't have a pick in the first round doesn't mean Walker should have the expectations of a first round pick.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) I don't mind the pick, he's worth a shot. And you are right that they are good with helping the mechanics. You just never know whether a pitcher can make those changes, or if he can, what he'll be like on the other side. At this round though, never a problem for me taking someone like this. This pick is the perfect example of the draft philosophy under the newer staff. Tall kid with a big fastball that has some upside. It's the 6th round, find a guy with a tool and some upside.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 02:38 PM) KW Jr hitting leadoff, LOL You laugh, but he's legitimately hot right now.
  10. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 02:32 PM) Also a fan of the Hansen pick. I really like that pick. Big kid, plus fastball. Maybe they can improve his secondary pitches to keep him as a starter. Otherwise he has a good shot to be a reliever with a mid 90s fastball. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 02:35 PM) Big kid... mechanics look really whippy though, on those long arms, that's a little worrisome. To be honest, any time I hear the Sox took a kid with good stuff despite bad mechanics I get excited. They've been pretty damn good with that.
  11. Are they going to talk through every pick for the whole day? Now that Callis is gone it's time to go back to the full on conference call where a round is finished in 10 minutes.
  12. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) Gotcha. That was right after the whole Dave Wilder debacle right? In your opinion..or anyone's opinion really, have these changes brought better prospects in? I know we are still considered the bottom of the barrel..but it takes more than a few years to get out I would assume. We know Sale has worked out thus far...but are there other guys recently drafted that have been at least somewhat valuable? Sorry for all the questions, but I don't follow the draft and low minors as much. Addison Reed came from the same draft as Sale. That's shaping up to be a really strong draft from the Sox just because of those two and Petricka, Wilkins, Ravelo and Saladino are also decent to good prospects with a shot. I think the change in philosophy has been for the best. There were/are multiple other issues with the system though. I would say the draft hasn't been one of them recently. Draft spending is another story.
  13. BA has him as an FIU signee.
  14. A day game?! Don't they know the draft is going on? I can't be distracted with actual games!
  15. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 01:26 PM) I have an organizational question to throw out there for the ones in the know. Have the White Sox done a lot of re-structuring with their scouting or philosophy or anything? I guess what I am really asking is...does it appear they are going after different kinds of players for a reason or just going after best available? The approach has seemed to change in recent years, not just this year. They've loaded up on tall pitchers with big fastballs and athletic power hitters. In other words, they love tools, something they were criticized for not taking before 2010. Brennan sounds like a White Sox sleeper. Hard to be a sleeper in the 4th round, but 3/4 arm slot and BA said he struggles to hit his release point. That's what the Sox teach best. From the FutureSox draft tracker: Brennan has a fastball that sits around 90, but on a good day hits 93-94. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot and has had trouble consistently hitting his arm slot, which could explain the inconsistent velocity. He also has a slider, which has been described as inconsistent, and a change up. Drafted 40th round out of high school, but opted to go to Oregon where he didn't play in 2010. 108.1 IP, 1.25 ERA, 72 K, 23 BB, 76 H as starter this spring. Houston signee.
  16. Retherford didn't play because he was blocked by two good pro prospects. That's why he went undrafted. He proved to be more talented than that.
  17. I hate to hate on picks, but man this reeks of CJ Retherford.
  18. I'm fairly sure all three of these guys are immediately top 10 prospects for the Sox.
  19. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) Can I call him my Adapt - A - Prospect? Maybe this is a bit superstitious on my part, but wait until the pick signs before making the threat.
  20. Ha Miami two and Q at home in a pair of blowout losses. That's pathetic. Mizzou won a game to surpass my expectations.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 11:06 PM) How long before we look at Jordan Danks as a legitimate MLB prospect? He's 25 and is really looking to be a productive player at AAA right now. Talent is sky high and I have to wonder if some of those poor numbers at AAA the past couple years were because we rushed him. I'm not sure if he should be riding the bench in Chicago. Danks had been a MLB prospect for his entire pro career until recently. It's about time he did something in the upper minors to support that. I'm probably one of his biggest supporters (having watched him show off his plus D in CF in person), but it's put up or shut up time. He's having a good year, but I'm not sure I see him as a full-time MLBer.
  22. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 07:48 PM) Ravelo with a bomb, Walker with 2 doubles and stole 3rd. 28 SB's on the season, if he can figure out how to get on base that guy has speed to burn. Walker's walk rate is absurd. I wonder if it's a case of trying to draw the walks instead of actually just being selective (with a poor contact rate). I know scouts complained about Mitchell being passive at the plate. I see potential in Walker's numbers. His K rate isn't totally pathetic and he obviously has the speed and walks. On the other hand, even I'm starting to get down on Trayce Thompson.
  23. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 12:51 PM) Not buying Heaney to the Sox. If this draft was was in 2007, maybe, but nothing over the past three years has indicated that the Sox will take the "safe" pitcher in the first round. That's the better way of saying what I meant earlier. They've gotten away from the 'safe' pick. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) Gio Gonzalez Caulfield post that's 2 words long? No way.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2012 -> 09:33 PM) Maybe Hernandez ultimaely ends up in the pen, but 2-3 weeks ago Quintana was a non-entity almost. You crack me up. How is this one sentence? Neither part has anything to do with the other.
  25. Epic comeback in the Kanny game. I's scored 6 in the 9th to win 9-8.
