  1. Going as expected. The White Sox weren't going to let any of these picks from the first 10 rounds to go unsigned under the new rules. Hansen was always going to be last because his college season just recently ended.
  2. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 11:01 PM) Didnt look comfortable the entire game but got a point on the road. Should have gotten the 3 though. Did anyone watch it? What was up with the ref calling the foul instead of letting the play continue since Altidore got the ball cleanly. It would have been 2-0 and that wouldve sealed the deal. It wasn't bad. It's what you get in Central America, bad officiating and no breaks. Hard to get too upset. I like the idea above about global qualifying in theory, but I quite like the regional rivalries that develop. Portugal just won despite Cristiano Ronaldo. I would have bet on not being able to say that. One because who would expect such a garbage showing from Ronaldo and two because how can Portugal beat anyone in this tournament while Ronaldo was so poor?
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 12:20 PM) They have Zach Stoner listed as a catcher. Seems odd to bury your 12th round pick at a non-native positions behind a guy like Barrazza who is clearly your starter. He has played there. Not sure why they didn't just list him there when they picked him.
  4. Where'd you get these? The first thing I always look for is the new DSL names. Juan Ramirez on Bristol had a nice year in the DSL last year, but none of the hitters truly stand out. 20 year old LHP Jose Bautista had a nice DSL season last summer.
  5. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 08:47 PM) Johnson seems like a clone of Danny Wright. Great size and stuff, but absolutely no control. Both ironically drafted in the second round of the MLB Draft from very good college baseball schools. You may be right, but at least he didn't have any walks tonight.
  6. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 12:45 PM) The scheduling for the Big Ten/ACC is way better. I don't know why they don't matchup the powerhouse schools. That could have been interesting if you had Syracuse/Kentucky and Lousivlle/Florida. They did the same thing last year and it was even more annoying because there were more quality teams. Part of it is the SEC just isn't good enough. Without the newbies it's a pretty poor basketball conference. With them it's only mediocre.
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) It' because the first 149 hours and 55 minute that I put into the games had great writing and your choices meant something to the story. The last five minutes took a giant s*** on that. I understand the frustration completely. I'm just saying would you ever have imagined people getting all worked up over the ending to Super Mario Bros. or Goldeneye? Video games have come a long way and it's awesome.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) Yup. He's easily their best all-time player. That was incredible to see him score those goals. Unbelievable story. Group D just became the most interesting one in the tournament IMO. All four teams are capable of advancing with the standings as they are.
  9. I haven't played any of the Mass Effect games, but I get a kick out of reading people complain about the ending. I find the whole dynamic interesting because it says a lot that a video game ending (and not something related to game play) has people in an uproar.
  10. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 11:51 AM) I was guessing 750K tops. Why? He's a high school pick in the top 50.
  11. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 10, 2012 -> 12:58 PM) Just watched Spain vs Italy at the Fado Irish Pub on Grand, very good result for Italy there. I hope you didn't leave the pub before Ireland played...

  13. Good finds everyone. I was a bit fried after updating the draft tracker so I've been too lazy to follow up on these guys. I did catch that 26th rounder Jason Coats tore his ACL on May 20. He was thought to be a potential first rounder a couple years ago, but took a bit of a step back the last two seasons. He was still first-team all-Mountain West the last two years so that says something still. The injury explains why he slipped so far, but I still like the pick. The crappy thing for him is that the article linked above said he turned down 6 figures in the 12th round last year. He won't get that in the 26th. At least he has a degree, but that sucks.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 12:01 PM) I'm not sure I put Hawkins above Mitchell just yet. Hawkins is a high schooler who hasn't seen a pro pitch yet. But he is, at worst, the #2 prospect in the Sox system. I still have major questions about Mitchell. Goldstein was right to say Hawkins is No. 1 by a wide margin.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) Didn't someone say Pedro Hernandez was hurt? He's on the DL.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 08:34 AM) I seriously have to be the only person to ever have bad experience with Apple products. My MacBook CPU gets to over 100* Celsius if I dare open more than 3 programs. I had a similar problem with my old Pro. It's probably just almost time for the computer. Generally it wasn't about multiple programs, but it was about using Flash. Whenever Flash came into play the fan had to blast away to keep the thing from burning anything it touched.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 12:00 PM) Remenowsky doesn't top 90-91 at most, but one of the Sox development people once said he could nail a gnat in the ass on either side of the plate. Can also throw 3 or 4 pitches for strikes consistently. That was Buddy Bell and it was hilarious.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 08:21 AM) We drafted a Stevenson kid?!?!? New favorite person ever. Seriously though, I'll do some digging and see if I can find out a little more about him. Supposedly he throws around 80 and I'm not even sure he has a college commit (to play). His dad works for the Sox so I don't think he's an actual prospect. Although I did see them play this year so that's cool. QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 08:45 AM) Why do you assume it's a token pick ? What's the scouting report? The Sox take someone from their Academy every year in the last few rounds. It's one of the better kids within the Academy and I think they've always had a college commit, but I don't recall them signing any of these picks.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) I'm guessing if the kid bought 16 hats, odds are pretty good he is signing quickly. All the college seniors will sign quickly. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 10:57 AM) I think technically they can't, but everyone does it anyway. I don't think there's any rule against it. Signability is explicitly a factor in the draft. Laumann talks about it all the time so there's no implied rule. That's why MLB made the new rules. They wanted people to be taken based on talent alone and not bonus demands. Ayala's case is a little bit different because it sounds like he just wanted to go to college unless he was blown away. Most of the problem cases have been Boras related where they intend to go pro, but Boras will hold you hostage for more money.
  20. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 06:15 PM) A lot of people were disappointed that Jones didn't sign, maybe it was the right move. What other former Sox draft picks were selected or eligible? Grimes, Gardeck etc.....? Gardeck went 16th round to SF (8th in 2011 by the Sox) and Grimes just completed his sophomore year at Georgia Tech. Ben O'Shea (10th round in 2011) went to the Cards in the 35th this year. Jones slipped from 7th to 26th. Chadd Krist was a 13th rounder by the Sox last year and was taken in the 9th this year by the Cubs. He was a senior though so the Cubs may have wanted him as a signable guy in the top 10 rounds. Matt Ginther went from 14th by the Sox last year to 24th.
  21. And now the token pick from the White Sox Academy in Chicago: DeJohn Suber from Morgan Park HS.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) IN the case of the HS kids, that might actually help them to sign. Having a teammate you know could help convince Bastro to skip college and go to the Sox. Basto's not going to college. Especially with the new rules the White Sox weren't going to take a kid in the first 10 rounds if they weren't sure they were going to sign him. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) 3 of the last 4 picks have been HS kids. I wonder if they can save enough money in the top 10 rounds to bring some of these kids into the fold. Savarise isn't a prospect so I wouldn't say 3 out of 4 because he won't sign.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) Brandon Allen career WAR: -0.1 Tony Pena WAR w/ Sox: 0.8 Ha, that's classic. For a trade that got repeatedly blasted, Kenny ended up winning it.
  24. So far the only interesting picks today are Sammy Ayala in the 17th round and Jason Coats in the 29th. Ayala is a HS catcher with some raw ability and athleticism (three-sport athlete). He's committed to UC Santa Barbara and would likely be an overslot sign. Coats was a guy BA said had a chance to be a first round pick last year after breaking a TCU record with 99 hits as a sophomore. He posted big numbers that year and had a good showing at the Cape Cod League the following summer, but posted an OPS in the low .800s the last couple years. His stock has slipped quite a bit.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 07:28 AM) The new Assassin's Creed looks absolutely incredible. And the fact that it's set in a time period that I can't recall there ever being any sort of decent game before just adds to it Yes, but at this point I just expect this from Ubisoft. Not all the AC games have been on the same level, but they've all been f***ing fun. This one could be the best.
