  1. I'm jinxing Jared like crazy. FutureSox Hitter of April? Suck in May. Bash him after May slump? 3-3, 2B, BB the next night. Good stuff.
  2. A nice 7-game hitting streak for Trayce. He does seem to be enjoying BB&T though. Big gap in his home and away splits.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 16, 2012 -> 08:00 AM) There's plenty of room to blame the injury. He basically lost >1 key year of development. He's guaranteed to be behind the curve, and that's a place few ballplayers recover from. He's not behind the curve. He played at Kannapolis pre-injury and was likely to be at Winston-Salem in 2010. He missed that year and spent 2011 with the Dash. He's now in Birmingham in his second full season of pro ball, which he would have been regardless. Obviously he's a year older in doing so (which has its advantages). I'm not saying the injury didn't impact his development, but there comes a point where you just have to admit the guy doesn't have it. He was far from a lock pre-injury.
  4. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 16, 2012 -> 01:38 AM) His speed is still well above average. Right, I'm just saying it's time to stop blaming the injury for his struggles. He was raw when the Sox picked him. He probably just isn't good enough.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2012 -> 09:48 PM) Uh-oh. Jared Mitchell 0 for 4, 3 K's. Let's hope he rebounds from here instead of continuing his free-fall. Gut check time. Yeah, back to not being good at baseball. Say what you want about the injury, but the things that were question marks to begin with (contact rate, raw baseball skills) are the things that are hurting him now. His speed may not be what it used to be (or that could be a bad scouting report), but he has 7 triples and is 9/10 in steals.
  6. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 15, 2012 -> 07:41 PM) I very much dislike the aversion to prep players. It very much limits the White Sox potential talent pool. Especially in a year like this one where the college crop is rather weak for position players. I'm encouraged by reports that Kenny is interested in Courtney Hawkins. With the CBA changes the premier high school players need to be drafted early or not all. I don't really like taking high schoolers in the first round so I don't mind the philosophy. 'Limiting the talent pool' in the draft is misleading because the draft isn't cut and dry enough for things like that to be that clear and obvious.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2012 -> 10:27 PM) Hernandez didn't have a quality start, but he's now 5-1 and has been our most consistent starting pitcher in AA/AAA. He did strike out 9 and walk 1 in 5 innings, that's pretty good.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) The Sox don't really look at short pitchers. They have a basketball team for a staff. Yeah, that would be against type for them. That said he has impressive strikeout numbers. He closed for Team USA though. Is that where he projects?

    2012 TV Thread

The premise is fine, but a lot of what I saw after was dumb. Seems like something that could be very good if done well, but I doubt it is. Plus Abrams means lots of long drawn out stories usually.
  10. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 13, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) Honestly, that looks pretty terrible. Normally I'd agree when Will Ferrell is involved, but I laughed pretty hard a couple times at that trailer.
  11. Man City scores twice in stoppage time to win the title despite a poor showing. Some of the most dramatic stuff in sporting history.
  12. Buffalo @ Knights Axelrod Barons suspended Dash lost 7-5 Kanny won 2-1 Walker 2-3, 2B, HR
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ May 8, 2012 -> 07:50 PM) I thought it was just ok. The last hour was great but before that I was actually getting bored. I can see it setting up Thor 2 and another Avengers. I liked it more than ok, but I agree with you. I thought it was a bit long in the beginning. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 10, 2012 -> 10:03 PM) What they should do is forget X-Men: The Last Stand existed and re-do what it was supposed to be. The Dark Phoenix saga. The rest of this thread has been nerds jerking off to geeky comic book stories, but this one I'll support. I remember the Phoenix from the X-Men cartoons and was hoping they would do something, anything with it. Instead all of the X-Men movies have been a disappointment. At least Wolverine's origin story was good (I can't fathom why so many people didn't like it).

QUOTE (knightni @ May 10, 2012 -> 08:22 PM) Damn it, Fox canceled The Finder. Really? I watch Bones, but I couldn't get into the characters.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 10, 2012 -> 08:02 PM) Why is it a big game for Thompson? Just because he's been struggling recently? 2-4 with a double and a homer is a big game as in a good one.
  16. That was college basketball at it's worst. Hard to believe these guys are pros as badly as they played (both teams).
  17. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ May 10, 2012 -> 08:48 PM) could you end the season any more painful GZZZZZZZZZZ Last year's season finale was pretty pathetic.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 10, 2012 -> 08:12 AM) What is that last graf from? The next time Caulfield makes sense will be the first.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 10, 2012 -> 12:26 AM) Look at Morel, who was more (or just as) highly touted simply because he was one of the few position prospects in our system. Morel made the BA top 100.
  20. Welcome to Soxtalk! But easy on the all caps please.
  21. I guess what's the bigger embarrassment: losing in the first round as a 1 seed or being swept in the 2nd round? That's what's going to happen at this point.
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 8, 2012 -> 01:49 AM) Age is the only reason I can see. Hell, even Addison Reed was #66 going in to the year. Relievers have significantly less value than any other position. Addison Reed struck out 111 and walked 14 in 78.1 innings and reached AAA (and the Majors) at 22 last year. Their numbers are comparable. There's no 'even Addison Reed.' Reed did this last year at higher levels while being younger. If he was only 66, Tolleson is fringe top 100.
  23. He was very good at Baylor. As for why he's not top 100: age and RP.
  24. Stults, Molina and Petricka were all schedule to start in the minors tonight. With Stults pitching for the Sox, they just moved Molina and Petricka up a level.
  25. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 7, 2012 -> 11:37 AM) I wonder what this means for Quintana and Stults after the double header since both their roster spots have been filled in Charlotte and Birmingham respectively. Does Stults have options left? I doubt they would send Quintana to Winston-Salem to fill Petricka's spot. Cameron Bayne did just give up 11 runs the other day. Also Nestor Molina to Charlotte.
