  1. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 06:44 PM) I don't know about that, I went with 3 friends who never read the book and they figured the packages were from sponsors, think you just missed it. You figured they were from sponsors, but given all the time spent on the build up another minute to give background on the package would have added something. Sponsors got mentioned ad nauseam early on only for it to be semi-implied when a benefit came from them. The time spent was just disproportionate, that's all.
  2. Anybody else annoyed with the new milb.com? Navigating through the scores is now more difficult and some of the elements aren't working in all my browsers. At least the player search is back.
  3. Here's a pair of Barons previews: FutureSox and AL.com. I see 25 on the active Charlotte roster. Who's the extra guy there?
  4. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 07:13 AM) Baseball is 3 years, but your point is the same. I agree with you, I don't like the rule. Football is 3 years as well, fwiw. The problem is if you make it three years more kids will jump out of high school. I'd much rather see players leave college early than leave from high school and flame out worse. I have no problem with the one and dones. There's only a handful of them every year. They're too small of a minority to make a big deal out of it.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 4, 2012 -> 06:45 PM) Even Kannapolis could have a pretty good rotation. Snodgress and Olacio are two of our better pitching prospects. Walters and a couple other guys look decent. Plus you got Erik Johnson and Myles Jaye in extended spring training to start the season. I'm guessing they'll head to Kannapolis at some point. A rotation with those five guys would be pretty damn good, especially considering how weak our system is. I'd be stunned if Olacio starts right away. I'd be more stunned if he doesn't struggle right away. He walked more than a batter an inning in the DSL. I don't care how good your stuff is. You have to throw strikes. Don't forget Jeff Soptic in that extended ST group. I still think the Winston-Salem rotation is much better for that level. We'll see what the top level teams are throwing out. PS here's my Dash preview on FS. I plan to have the Barons' and Knights' previews up tomorrow assuming the rosters are out.
  6. Got a Kanny preview up on FS. The rest coming over the next couple days.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 4, 2012 -> 09:21 AM) Is it just me, or is the minor league season starting earlier, relative to the major league season, than usual? I seem to recall last year it was like 1.5 weeks after major league Opening Day that the full season minor league squads started up. This year, they are starting at basically the same time. I think it was about 4-5 days usually, not more than a week certainly.
  8. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 10:48 PM) How many on UK will be one and done? 2? 3? Lamb and Jones were sophs, Miller a senior. I can't see Teague being ready. Wiltjer isn't going anyhwhere. I'm not defending Calipari and Kentucky, but does two one and done's make it a joke? Yeah, I'm with you. I don't see why Kentucky winning makes the rule a joke. Did the Fab 5 make college basketball a joke? Recruit a ton of HS All-Americans and you'll have a chance to win. No joke there.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 05:30 PM) Seven Big Ten schools on that list. No other conference has more than 3. I assume the guaranteed TV money plays a big part in that. Northwestern probably gets the "Chicago's Big Ten team" thing to its advantage in an evaluation as well. In pure $$ NU makes some sense, considering they spend so little.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) So Bill Self went from Illinois to Kansas. Bruce Weber went from Illinois to Kansas State. Does that mean John Groce's next job is at Wichita State? Well done.
  11. QUOTE (High Mileage @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 01:31 PM) Here in Jayhawk country, we're loving this hire. Weber isn't a terrible coach, but he isn't as good as or better than Frank Martin either. They have an overbearing AD who ran Martin out of town and they end up with Weber. Sucks for them... I really don't think that highly of Martin. What's to say he wasn't riding on the coattails of Huggins' recruiting?
  12. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Mar 31, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) You can't tell an athlete that. They all think they are starters and better than anyone else. Reality is a very rare trait for athletes whether AA baseball players, a HS star/college recruit or whatever. They always think they are better than they really are. True, but that doesn't mean he should call out Bruce Weber's hiring. Doesn't it also look badly upon his loyalty to K State? He's still bitter that U of I passed on him. Shouldn't he be pleased he found K State?
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 31, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) When he was a senior, Pullen really wasn't good enough to play at Illinois. As time passed, he obviously became a great college player but he was in the shadow of Carlwell and played a different game at KSU than he did at Proviso East. Yeah I was going to say Pullen shouldn't be bitter over that. He did more at K State than he was going to anywhere else. They let him take a starring role because they had no other choice and it worked for both parties. If he went to Illinois he probably wouldn't have done as well.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 31, 2012 -> 01:20 PM) And with that said, Nate Jones is probably the most likely to be sent down first. Yeah, he's not good. If Jones has a sub 5 ERA, Cooper deserves another pay raise. There's almost no chance.
  15. QUOTE (mumbles3k @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 07:08 PM) I saw The Hunger Games. I think it's the best movie of the year so far. And no, I'm not a teenage girl (although I have already purchased my tickets for Titanic). It was entertaining, but best movie of the year so far? Wow.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) Yeah, if this results in game only costing like $30-40 because they no longer have to make discs, make boxes, ship them across the world, and go through any sort of retailer, then that would be awesome. But I have a feeling they are using this to increase their own revenue, not decrease our prices. I am FIRMLY against this. The thing is they can both increase their own revenue and decrease our prices if retailers affect the price that much. I wouldn't expect $30-40 games, but more likely back to $50 where it was a decade ago and more smaller games (which both PSN and XBL have already) that are significantly cheaper than that. The console makers are hesitating to come out with new models because coming out with another $300+ machine is asking a lot of the consumer (my other hope is that not having a disc drive lowers the cost of the hardware a bit too) in a down market. The negative PR of killing the used games market could be offset by coming out with cheaper games. Again, I don't think so, but it's my hope.
  17. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 01:00 PM) I would imagine they are tied to your Online account as well. So if your system dies, you boot up your new system and log in to your PSN ID or Xbox Gamertag and then re-download all your s***. Much like in the way a Steam account works. But it would probably take forever to re-download a whole library, and this idea is just awful. No more sharing games with friends, or even playing a game at a friends house. Yeah, I read something somewhere that the PSN or XBL accounts would allow for backups. I don't think it's such a big deal. I don't have to go to a retail store and I don't have a stupid box taking up space. It would be nice if skipping the retailers drops a few bucks off the price, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 05:42 PM) Maryland QB Danny O'Brien is transferring to Wisconsin, he will have 2 years of eligibility starting this year. The comparisons to Wilson are obvious, but O'Brien wasn't a starter last year so I don't know how big of a deal this is.
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 04:30 PM) What do you mean? I don't like to really notice the soundtrack. You were forced to pay attention to the soundtrack. I'm sure that was intentional, but I didn't like that aspect.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 05:23 PM) Yeah I like Grimm as well, its on a good night because Friday is weak for programming besides for Fringe. That reminds me, between you and Jason talking up Fringe I decided to give it a shot. Fantastic show! The other side storyline is a bit frustrating at times, but the first couple seasons were glorious (I'm still catching up). It pays to read people's reviews on here.
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 07:54 AM) I watched Drive yesterday, thought it was really good. The soundtrack and the font of the title sequences gave it an odd feel, though. EDIT: It seemed to be over pretty quickly, which was a good and bad thing. It didn't drag at all, but it felt like it could have been more enjoyable if it were longer. I have to agree that Albert Brooks was awesome and seems to have been snubbed for an Oscar nomination. His character was a lot more complex than he seemed in the trailers. I just saw it a couple days ago as well. I thought it was OK, but the soundtrack and the opening credits gave it too much of an 80s feel. It was very strange and seemed to be too dominant. I could see it being much better as a book because it's probably better not to actually see 'Driver.' Reading about him constantly being referred to as Driver would add to the mystery of him. I thought he was more of a characteristic personified than an actual person and weird things like that work better written.
  22. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 11:36 AM) The Hunger Games was OK. I felt like they could've done a little more to pretend that people in the movie other than Katniss actually mattered at all. It was very superficial with the characters. I was also expecting the love story to be more prominent. It's barely a factor until the final 30-40 minutes. Unsurprisingly generic, predictable story.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 01:47 AM) Oh and I also saw the new Spiderman trailer when I went to see Hunger Games today. Emma Stone actually looks really good with blonde hair. That movie's a must-see for me. Emma Stone always looks really good.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 24, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) I'm not saying that she is some fugly woman that I wouldn't let near me. It's just personally there's nothing about her that makes her especially attractive to me. Yeah that.
  25. She's got a weird face.
