All New Soccer Thread ~ All Levels ~ All Leagues

QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 05:54 PM) I dont know if the EPL is overrated this year in Europe because its not really that strong within itself this year. It's been talked about as the first global league and referred to as the consensus top league in the world. Granted, I think most people who say these things admit if it is best it's not by anywhere near the same margin as say the NBA. However, I don't think the EPL's big 4/5 is really any better than Italy's top 4 or the top German clubs, etc. It might be the deepest league (certainly the bottom half in Spain is garbage), but the EPL is being outperformed by the Russian League in this year's Champions League... -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 08:41 PM) I wouldn't say that Mizzou is head and shoulders above Iowa State. The Cyclones were up at the half of each game against Mizzou. Both games have been very close. The Tigers should still be expected to win, but to assume the crowd will be heavily pro Mizzou is not totally accurate, Iowa State travels very well to KC and I guarantee any KU fans will pull for ISU over the Tigers. I never said Mizzou was. It's definitely a tough match up just because of Royce White. I just would never pick Iowa State to win three games in a row against Texas, Mizzou and the finalist. Iowa State shoots far too many threes to expect three good performances in a row. It is fun to look at the bracket and see all the teams with Texas or Oklahoma in their names as the worst five teams in the conference.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) ISU will have a really tough game with Texas first. Also, Okie State is without LeBryan Nash the rest of the way. Kansas-Mizzou would be a great finale, but I can actually see a KSU-Texas final matchup to shock everyone. No Nash means no threat from Ok State. Texas isn't good. I won't get on that bandwagon. They MIGHT be able to beat Iowa State, but I really won't pick it.

Arsenal out of the Champs League despite a good rally. EPL is looking quite overrated in Europe this year. -

I know it's not a bold statement, but I'd bet lots of money on ISU not winning this thing.

QUOTE (juddling @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 12:32 AM) In an interview on the E network a show runner for TWD was talking about the final two shows of the season and said Carl was going to factor into them heavily and hinted it being something along Carl's comic book storyline. I am not familiar with the comic books so not quite sure what she could have been hinting at. If you really want spoilers, there's news about a potentially huge storyline change but I won't be more specific than that. If you want to know, it can be googled.

I lived on Sonic in college, though they're becoming pretty damn national. Also, Chick-Fil-A. I didn't think a plain chicken sandwich could be that good.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) I finally watched MoneyBall last week. I tried to get into it, but I couldn't get past the way they made it seem like Scott Hatteberg was the key to winning baseball games, ignoring the fact that Oakland had the MVP & Cy Young award winner in 2002, along with two other "ace" type pitchers. Yeah I think at least a reference of the big 3 pitchers was warranted. That bugged me too.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 11:12 AM) Shows how much I've kept up with the conference scramble mess. If I'm the B12, I am thinking I go after BYU and Boise State to try to get back to 12. Makes sense on a few levels, and I think they both want to move up. Boise is joining the Big East.

I'm a Northwestern fan, but I think it's a joke that they're still getting consideration. They certainly fail the eye test. This team looks no different than anything they've had the past couple years of NIT teams. A losing record in conference would be an automatic out for me. Not to mention, they've blown so many close games that it's their own fault for not having a respectable resume. I think they have to beat Michigan. -

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Mar 4, 2012 -> 09:07 PM) No way Middle Tennessee St gets an at-large, no way! Yeah, no top 50 wins and end the season with two bad losses in a row. -
Not that I miss Colorado and Nebraska when it comes to basketball, but I do miss the old 12-team tournament. Felt a bit grander.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 08:45 PM) Syracuse has such a gigantic weakness that I don't think they can be considered a favorite. Such a gigantic weakness that no one has beaten them at full strength? Come on -

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 08:12 PM) The problem with that is how many truly consistent teams are there outside of Kentucky and Syracuse? Kansas? I'm not falling for that one again... Why is that a problem? Two clear favorites is more than enough to fill out your bracket. -

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 08:02 PM) I don't know what to think about UNC. On the one hand, I feel like they could beat anyone if they play to their potential. On the other hand, I could easily see them losing in the Sweet 16 if Barnes has a bad night since their other perimeter players aren't the greatest scoring threats. Pretty much. Consistency is the most valuable trait to have in the tournament. -

Iowa State beats Baylor to get the 3 seed in the Big 12 tourney, lining up on Mizzou's half. All I can think is the Mortal Kombat dude saying "Round 3, fight!" -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 08:51 AM) New Assassins Creed location revealed yesterday: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive...-creed-iii.aspx Very excite! The Game Informer section makes it sound like the best AC yet. It even explains why the last 2 were a bit lacking compared to AC2. They've been working on AC3 since they completed 2, that blows my mind!

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) Ouch, Vinny is a bit harsh. I'd put it on roster limitations a lot more than coaching, mostly on the interior. Their centers are terrible and have been for basically his entire tenure. Because of that they get murdered on the glass, struggle to defend any team that has strong, athletic guys that can get inside, and have no low post play to get them easy buckets. If they even had a serviceably big man they'd be in way better shape. They always seem to have a jumper-heavy team with 2 guys that can score and a bunch of role players. That doesn't leave them much margin for error, which is why we see games like that. That was kind of my point though. Given the rosters he's had, it's hard to complain. Just watching the in-game coaching it seems like he's bad. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 07:36 PM) The entire goal of these friendlies are to evaluate for the qualifying teams. And I think we got a slight taste of some good things to come. Hopefully our defense tightens up. Absolutely. The friendlies are more for the performances than the results. If you play well, the results come. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 07:21 PM) We'll see if that holds true once the film comes out. It might be really hard to do in 2 hours without it turning cookie cutter. Hopefully they found the right director to do it (and they wont' be mad if it goes 2:20). That's the thing. At least they've developed the characters, but they probably have to develop each character's relationship with every other character. That's incredibly hard to do while also intertwining a main plot that you care about.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 03:49 PM) I was probably jizzing all over DK at that point. It really was a "holy s*** that movie was great" movie. However, in hindsight, and having watched the movies on bluray quite a few times over the last few years, I prefer that Batman/Bruce Wayne-centric Batman Begins to the Joker-centric Dark Knight that rushed the story of Two Face and had way too little Bruce Wayne. Then again, origin stories always rawk and it was so much fun to see them get Batman's origin right. More than just back stories are better though. Dark Knight was about 20 minutes too long.
-
I thought the first Iron Man did a great job of showing the back story. Personally I prefer Batman Begins to The Dark Knight other than Heath Ledger because the story was much better. To say the Batman movies had that feel and Iron Man didn't is curious to me.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 01:48 PM) Movies for me are such a time commitment that it needs to be good or it's a waste of time. Action flicks these days are becoming reality TV. They have terrible characters and generally make little to no sense. Give me a good comedy or a good drama over these comic book action flicks any day of the week. We've definitely been over saturated with comic movies, but I think most of the Avenger lead in movies were good.
