2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 02:07 AM) So you were willing to give up St. Louis for a #1 seed, but if you were a #2 you wanted to be in the midwest? If Missouri got a #1 seed, they would have most certainly gotten shipped to the west. Yeah that was more arguing over semantics. As for the 30 win thing, the stat I heard (via a friend not ESPN) applied to major conferences. -
I'm big on Long Beach in the first round, but I haven't filled out a bracket to list all of them yet. LBSU just struck me as obvious when the bracket came out.
-
Killer Elite wasn't quite what I expected, but it's a Statham film that included De Niro and Yvonne Strahovski so I figured it would keep my attention. Entertaining if not a bit formulaic and predictable. I was hoping for more of the latter two actors.

The spoiler about today's episode gave me hope for the season. Hopefully it gets good now.

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Mar 11, 2012 -> 09:05 PM) danman, I get your angst over Missouri not getting the number one seed. I'm not a bracketologist but looking at those that make the predictions did not have Missouri on the one line. So I will assume they didn't belong and were a deserving #2 for the purposes of this post. What I don't get is everyone whining about Missouri getting the last 2 seed as #8 on the S curve. Who the hell cares. That position did them a favor. They ended up paired with the weakest #1 seed so despite their position on the S curve, it wasn't followed and they benefitted. Would you really have rather been opposite North Carolina just to get a possible Sweet Sixteeh spot in St. Louis than getting Michigan State in Phoenix? I understand the allure of playing near home, but I'd much rather potentially see Michigan St. Selfishly I wanted St. Louis because I would have gone. -

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Mar 11, 2012 -> 05:31 PM) simple, he's pissed 4 loss Missouri didn't get the nod Is that wrong though? They said Missouri was ranked 8 because of their non-conference schedule. Top teams shouldn't be evaluated on the bad teams they beat. It's clear Missouri is a top tier team, they should be judged on the good teams they beat. Record vs. RPI top 50 Syracuse 11-2 Kentucky 9-2 Missouri 11-3 Kansas 11-5 Michigan State 10-5 Ohio State 9-5 North Carolina 8-5 Duke 7-5 Missouri has the most top 50 wins and only Kansas and Michigan State played more games against the top 50, yet Missouri's schedule is the one that comes into question. It's pretty insignificant in the long run, but it's a joke that they rate Missouri 8 on that list because they beat more teams outside the top 200 instead of beating some 100-200 teams in the non-conference. -

A 7-loss #1 seed? LOL -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 10, 2012 -> 07:28 PM) Could have gone without Mizzou winning on their way out. Too bad, woooooo
-
Wouldn't have minded the third match up with Kansas because a win would have made a better case for a No. 1 seed. Now Mizzou might need Michigan State to not win the Big Ten Tourney. Very interesting race for that last No. 1.
-
Hey, if you're allowed to go all lawyer in the Penn State thread and others I'm allowed to go all writer on you for that improper use of the word.
-
There's a big difference between 'cares about winning it' and 'season is ruined if they lose it.' Everyone 'cares' about winning their conference tournament. MSU has the luxury of a history of an absurdly consistent level of success in the NCAA tourney to erase any upset fans/players/coaches over a loss in the conference tourney. MSU's seasons aren't judged on the Big Ten Tournament, therefore it's impossible to ruin their season in it.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) Next up MSU, hopefully this is Wisconsin's chance to ruin their year. To many times MSU has ruined Wisconsin's. It's not possible to ruin Michigan State's year in the Big Ten Tournament. That's not how that program is built.
-
That Taylor to Wilson three was about as perfect of a last-minute possession as you can have.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 01:54 PM) Anywho, still think Kansas is winning this tournament. I have a feeling about Baylor tonight. I can't rationalize it though.
-
As if there wasn't already a negative feel about the minor league system, a harsh injury to an OK prospect sucks. I'll be stunned if we see Brandon Short in any prospect rankings ever again. He's not really that good, take away a year of playing time and add in that he may not be 100% again. Ugh

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 09:09 PM) The shift away from the children in the first movie gradually to Prince Caspian hasn't gone over well. The first Narnia movie was very well received, and the quality has worsened over the last 2. Just like the Pullman series, the market just hasn't quite been there to the agree originally forecast when these films went into production originally. That's the problem with the books as well. The original characters just go away and you lose the original connection. The new cousin (whose name I refuse to look up) was absurdly annoying in the most recent movie too. Considering that I may or may not watch another movie if they make one.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 04:49 PM) PAC-12 is so weak this year. They may send only one team, potentially. Cal and Oregon play tonight. Arizona still to play too, but seem like they need to go all the way or close to it for a shot at a bid. It's amazing, the Mountain West is better than the PAC-12 and it's not really close. Can anyone imagine the Missouri Valley being clearly better than the Big Ten for one season? That's pretty much the equivalent of what's happening out west. People don't think it's a big deal because it's happened pretty gradually, but not that long ago the PAC-10 was the deepest league for a year or two. -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 10:27 PM) Iowa State derps that game away. Can't let Texas get that many offensive boards and expect to win. YAY Mizzou doesn't have to face Royce White again! YAY! I may regret that reaction tomorrow, but it's honest right now.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 09:34 PM) Part of me almost posted that the Bulls should go back to Boozer. It goes against everything Ive ever believed though. He's the only consistent offense they have tonight.
-
Did Asik really just jump to attempt a block on Redick? Really? HA!
-
The Narnia movies have been OK. Not going to wow anyone, but moderately entertaining.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 06:55 PM) Missouri is straight up throttling Okie State at halftime. Gotta love when Mizzou calls a timeout and the announcer says "The Cowboys back within 17."
-
I think next year is a step back, but if Cobb develops into the player I think he can be and the incoming freshmen class produces at least a couple solid players they should be in position in two years. A lot of ifs, but that's how it goes. Looking at the future roster reminds me...weren't Tre Demps and Mike Turner supposed to be respectable recruits? How come they never saw the floor?
-
Yeah Northwestern sucks. Nothing else is new. Pathetic
-
Jershon Cobb is the biggest what if of the season for me. If Cobb was healthy for the heart of Big Ten season I'm fairly sure he puts Northwestern over the edge in at least one or two close losses to give them a good enough resume.
