  1. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 17, 2012 -> 07:37 PM) Olacio in relief of Webb tonight. 4.0 IP 2 H 0 ER 1 BB 6 SO Mid 90s fastball with those stats? Top 5 prospect already? I'm half kidding, but he's not that far off in this system.
  2. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 17, 2012 -> 09:02 AM) Christian Marrero is proving that he's > Greg Golson. Good for him. I always liked him. He produced on a regular basis.
  3. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 05:55 PM) I just know I want IU to be a top 10-15 program every year with the occasional shot at the very top. None of it is assumed, however. I think most ambitious programs will want that. Certainly more than 15 programs want to be in that group. Not saying it's a bad ambition. It's a more realistic view of being a top team. Wanting to be in that group isn't as exclusive as some IU fans may think though.
  4. Durham @ Knights Shirek Barons @ Chattanooga Quintana Dash @ Myrtle Beach Heidenreich Intimidators @ Hickory Walters Ravelo with another extra base hit.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 08:45 AM) If IU ends up as a three seed, there are going to be a lot of disappointed IU fans. With those kind of expectations after the garbage the program has seen those would be a lot of stupid fans. In no way should the best seed they've had in what, a decade, be a disappointment.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 11:23 PM) Ravelo has 2 hr's in 438 career minor league AB's. 335 and 373 SLG marks when he had significant playing time, 400 SLG average for all his minor league AB's, for a 749 OPS. Unless you play middle infield or CF, those numbers don't translate to more than a fringe player like a Brandon Short (UNLESS he can make the transition to 3B, then he has a much better opportunity). Again, he's 19 and one of those home runs was this year, when he is really pounding the ball. He's slugging .611 with a .222 ISO. Obviously the sample size is tiny, but he's almost half way to the number of extra bases he had last year in 1/6 of the games. At some point you have to think the kid is developing at least a little more power.
  7. QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 10:25 PM) So both Ravelo and Sanchez just have ZERO power right? Ravelo has 6 XBH so far and both are 19. Power comes late for many. Neither are going to win any slugging titles, but they can still develop moderate power at their age.
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 07:14 PM) Also, it's hard not to be very encouraged my Mitchell's start. But as we all already know, he needs to get his Ks down. Ultimately, K's are all that matter with Mitchell. The early walk rate is fantastic though.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 06:31 PM) 8 IP, 7 K's, 7 hits, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 HR, 94 pitches for Molina so far, ends the 8th with a 1 run lead. That's a pretty damn good start. He's walked just 1 in 16.2 IP so far. He's doing just fine.
  10. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) Needs to work on his control. Has potential. That's what the minor leagues are for.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 02:44 PM) Jones just cannot be in the majors with his lack of control. Yeah he has no business being on an MLB roster. I don't see how the White Sox aren't aware of that.
  12. Knights @ Norfolk Stults start Phegley HR Barons @ Chattanooga 4:15 Molina Carolina @ Dash Buch Intimidators @ Lexington Parrent
  13. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 01:09 PM) He isn't that good and the Red Sox have plenty of better 5th starter guys (Aaron Cook, etc) Some team like the Astros or Twins that need lots of pitching help should get him. He's 25 and a competent MLB arm. He has to have more value than a DFA.
  14. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 10:54 AM) Michael Bowden DFA'd by Boston, wonder if we make a claim, but he will have many suitors. Did anyone get Brandon Allen? Why did they bail on him? Seems rash.
  15. I'm already sick of IU. My new hated team next year.
  16. QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 14, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) I agree in the sense that I'm not used to it, so it's hard to prepare my expectations...but at the same time, I'm looking forward to seeing how the team does when there are such high expectations. Instead of "OMG YOU BEAT KENTUCKY" it will be (even if we're not favored) "Good win, but not surprising." Kentucky hasn't lost a home game since 08-09. It would be downright shocking for Indiana to win for that fact alone.
  17. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 13, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) Yay, we're relevant Even without Royce White? Not many teams remain strong despite losing their top 3 scorers. Meanwhile Mizzou lands UConn transfer Alex Oriakhi. He can play right away thanks to the Huskies' postseason ban. So Mizzou goes from a team with 7 scholarship players and two players 6-8 or taller to a team that goes 11 deep with 5 players 6-8 or taller. They won't be as good as last year, but they won't have the same weaknesses either. Oh wait, it doesn't matter they will disappoint somehow.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) Maybe they just want him there for the first month and get a bit more confidence...since that's the biggest jump for a pitcher. Who knows? Other than Molina, it's not like there were any top prospects blocking his path, as you mentioned. Castro, Quintana and Hernandez are all good prospects. Probably only Castro rates higher than Rienzo, but the point is the same. The entire reason I'd like to see Rienzo in AA now is because it is the biggest jump. I'm not going to get worked up about a guy in AA instead of AAA, but high-A to AA is a difficult adjustment that takes time that he's not getting. It's really not that big of a deal long term, I just don't understand why he needed to repeat high-A after a good year there.
  19. It's really early to call for a promotion, but I don't understand why Rienzo is in Winston-Salem in the first place. He had a perfectly fine season there last year. I know the Barons have good prospects in the rotation, but Bayne certainly isn't better than Rienzo. Maybe they were hoping one of the Barons' SP prospects would start well and move up shortly, but it seems kind of odd.
  20. Rienzo finished with 9 K against 2 BB in 6 scoreless innings. Well done.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2012 -> 11:46 AM) Is Sanchez a product of the Sox latin academy? I know the Sox signed him out of Venezuela and put him in the DSL in 09. I don't know if that makes him a product of an academy.
  22. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Apr 13, 2012 -> 05:31 AM) He clearly meant that in his opinion Dan Hudson was more than enough for Edwin Jackson and the fact our gm included another good pitching prospect is laughable. Overall I'm a KW fan but he has made a few major screwups these past few seasons. Yeah I know what he meant, but odds are Hudson wasn't enough for Jackson.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2012 -> 07:20 AM) Pretty unusual stats for a 19 year old Venezuelan infielder. Let's hope Sanchez keeps up the good plate discipline. The contact is real, but I'm not sure about the walks. He put up a phenomenal walk rate in the DSL, but I'm pretty sure I could. Obviously the Sox think highly of him for him to be 19 and starting in Winston-Salem.
  24. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 05:51 PM) As I have already said, that's my only gripe with that trade, then and now. There was NO REASON that Holmberg should have been added in. We don't know that and it's probably dead wrong.
  25. Just when everyone was saying Keenyn Walker was a bust he does that. How freaking bizarre.
