  1. Once signed, everybody LOVED the Sale pick. He was a top 5 talent. Reed obviously pushes the draft over as a really good one. It could be amazing if they get another MLB player out of it.
  2. QUOTE (daa84 @ May 31, 2012 -> 07:35 PM) not sure why jordan danks doesn't get more credit on this board....has a double and a walk today. His obp is over .400 and OPS near .900. I know everyone hates the K's, but hes cut them down a bit, and as long as he is walking im ok with it. not sure how is defense has progressed, but I know he was a + defender at one point as well It's funny you say that because I don't see much difference between him and Eduardo Escobar. Future bench players that play plus D and won't hit much. Escobar was a consensus top 10 prospect while everyone wants to s*** on Danks.
  3. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 31, 2012 -> 01:41 PM) Chandler would look very nice at RB across from Johnson at LB... though I think Lichaj has a great future at RB if he can stay healthy. Johnson and Bradley were the two best Americans to me. I thought it was very odd that JK dropped Bradley deep and played Edu in a more advanced role, especially since those were reversed with great effect against Scotland. Excited to see a full American squad with Jozy and Dempsey on the field. Need to get younger at CB. There's no way Gooch and Boca are playing at a high enough level in 2014. Hopefully Ream, Cameron, George John, Goodsen, Gonzalez, et al can become international quality in the next 2 years. Agree on Lichaj. I think he'll be comparable to Chandler soon enough. I think Klinsmann knows Bradley is his best two-way midfielder so against a team like Scotland he used him in the attack. Against Brazil when you know you're going to be on the defensive, Bradley drops back more. I think it was just a matter of making sure Bradley was involved in the play as much as possible. As for the CBs, I think Boca can make it through 2014. He probably retires from international play right after that World Cup, but I think he's quality enough to last that long. As for who plays with him? That's the new hole for the MNT. Someone has to step up or that will be the new LB.
  4. I still like Saladino quite a bit due to the walk rate. I have to say it's much harder to rank the pitching prospects than the hitters right now. To pull a caulfield like tangent: the new pitchers aren't really doing much, but the guys given up (Quentin and Santos) aren't being missed at the moment. Both have been hurt for much of the year while the replacements the Sox have put in place have done fine.
  5. I'm really not a big believer in taking high school pitchers. I think a high school position player would be fine, but I tend to prefer the college players overall.
  6. Sounds like a White Sox pick, or at least of a few years ago, but that short summary doesn't thrill me.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 31, 2012 -> 01:39 PM) I'd put Phegley ahead of Thompson, Walker and probably Saladino. Definitely ahead of Ravelo and Semien. Pre-draft, the only position player who really jumps past Phegley is Mitchell, in my view. Josh is a catcher, putting up solid hitting numbers in AAA, and staying healthy. His position makes his bat very valuable. His ceiling isn't as high as Thompson or some of those others, but he's got a good chance of being a major league catcher, whereas guys like Thompson and Walker have a good chance of never really getting there. Phegley isn't putting up solid hitting numbers though. He has 6 walks and 1 home run and an OPS just south of .700. I barely rate Phegley in the top 20.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 31, 2012 -> 06:55 AM) What position prospects would you rate higher? Mitchell, Thompson, and Saladino for sure. Probably Walker. I'd put him in the next tier with Semien, Ravelo, & Phegley (as I think his numbers go back up). We probably have enough pitching prospects to ensure he's not in the top 10 this year, but I do think he's one of our more interesting prospects. You answered the question for me. I wouldn't say it any different.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 31, 2012 -> 08:21 AM) Fabian Johnson was a major bright spot, he looked really good. Gomez looked dangerous up top as well. I really like when we play with 2 forwards. Hopefully JK tries that with him and Jozy next week. Disappointing to lose with a score line like that, but there really were quite a few positives in the that game, especially at the offensive end where we actually looked dangerous on several occasions. Johnson was man of the match for the US and it wasn't even close. Chandler who? Gomez needs to work on his first touch though. He knows where to be, which the US doesn't have enough of at forward, but he doesn't quite have the skill to be dangerous at the international level.
  10. Sanchez needs more power before you can call him a top 10 prospect, even in this system.
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) Shades of Aaron Poreda, it seems to me. Not always a fan of taking pitchers that you have to really teach a third pitch. 90-94 mph isn't anything too stunning, especially since he's fairly heavy for a young guy at that height. Missing the chance to show off his changeup and prove its there with that foot injury would scare me away. I tend to agree. Most of what I read about him doesn't impress me, but I haven't read up on the draft yet.
  12. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ May 30, 2012 -> 07:11 PM) What has gotten into Michael Earley this year? Jesus. .322/.368/.561 in 170+ AB. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?p...&pid=594808 Strangely hitting much better away from BB&T, too. Could be a legit prospect. The Sox had him skip Kanny so maybe they see something in him. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) He's also a control guy moving up to AA. At lower levels you can get guys out in ways that you lose when you move to higher levels. Exactly. That 7 K/9 really isn't all that good. That turns into, what, a 4.5-5 K/9 in the bigs? Not too many successful guys in that range. That's where Buehrle lives, but it's safe to say he's the exception to the rule.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2012 -> 04:27 PM) Castro and Quintana have definitely moved ahead of him in terms of prospect standing, IMO You could make that argument. Probably the weakest the top prospect in the system has been in a long time, whoever it is.
  14. Soptic made his 2012 debut. 1-2-3 inning for his first pro win.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 29, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) I think it's time to acknowledge the possibility of SA sweeping the entire postseason. I ain't seen a run like this since the '01 Lakers. And even that run didn't start until, like, a week before the playoffs. SA has been blitzing everybody since March. I bet winning in OKC will be tough against a rocking house, but it wouldn't shock me.
  16. Mitchell is the streakiest player in the system this year.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 28, 2012 -> 10:23 PM) Ravelo's last 10 games, he has 8 hits... all singles. He also has 5 walks, vs 2 K's. Lots of contact, good plate discipline, but little power. Except Ravelo doesn't have good plate discipline. That's an isolated stretch. He still doesn't walk enough for a guy with no power.
  18. Castro pitching a gem. 8 scoreless with no walks.
  19. MIB3 wasn't that good. It's also not really a comedy, more of an action film.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2012 -> 11:01 AM) So the ESPN play of the day was probably the most awesome catch I have ever seen. This post sucks. Tell us who it freaking was! I've been trying to find this for 10 minutes, but no one decided to name the freaking player. Geez
  21. Hey Mizzou is back in the tourney. I guess that means I'll pay attention to regionals this year.
  22. Tip them and vote by not returning to the restaurant if the experience was that bad. I don't know why people need to b**** about something that was bad. Just don't go back. If enough people do that the place will go out of business if it's that bad.
  23. You sure like latching onto guys with no chance.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 25, 2012 -> 08:24 AM) Kyle Bellamy looks ready for AA. People have forgotten him, but, he may have something to offer now that he's back and healthy. I didn't forget about him, but he's not quite producing at his pre-injury levels yet. He was K'ing more batters then. We'll see, but the odds go down when you have a significant injury like he did.
