I see Olacio on Bristol's roster. Probably a good idea to put him at a more age appropriate level. To be honest, he surpassed my expectations of him as an 18 year old in Kanny for his US debut. Sure he walked a ton of people, but the K rate remained and he held his own to some extent. Now let's see if he can dominate in a league that's closer to his age/experience level. Also, I just finished going through the rookie ball rosters and finding out who all has been released over the last year. The one name unaccounted for is Cody Winiarski. He put up dominant numbers last year for Great Falls' bullpen. Is he hurt or something?

Royse got roughed up, but had nice K and BB numbers. I didn't really care for the pick in the first place, but the injury and missed time really crushed his chances.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 06:34 PM) Ayala sounds like an interesting potential prospect. Wouldn't mind if they try to sign him with some of the leftovers. From an article someone posted earlier it sounded like he wants more than the Sox can give under the rules. He won't sign.

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 05:21 PM) Is there a slotting system in place for picks after the 11th round? Do teams get penalized if they spend over a certain amount? After the 10th round there's no slotting, it's all the same. You can sign the pick for up to $100,000 without it counting against your budget. I think after that it has to come from signing previous picks for under slot.

Brady Shoemaker won the HR Derby. He beat C.J. Retheford in the final. Unsurprisingly Retherford is beating the crap out of the California League.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) Do you agree he was offside in the first place? I really don't give a s***. Generally speaking, you can't miss a call that involves the ball going over the line. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 03:20 PM) The goal line technology argument will probably come up again, but at the same time, he was offside to start and the flag didn't go up. It has to come up again. Goals don't come frequently enough to have them taken away wrongly. That said, Sweden was probably the most dangerous team in this group. They led in the 2nd half in all 3 games and only came away with 3 points. Hard to do that. -

Tight, tight, tight in group c, but Italy is through! Spain was sweating it for a bit as well. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 29, 2012 -> 01:07 PM) Before issues with elbow tendonitis, he was highly thought-of. But elbow issues make people leery, certainly they do for me, so no way I'd put him that high at this point. Not to mention he has to work on his control big time. That was already a concern before this year.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 25, 2012 -> 03:06 PM) In both of his stints with Winston-Salem he has pretty much owned hitters at the High A level. I hope he's moved up to Birmingham soon. Wish granted. He made his return to AA on June 10.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 11:21 PM) I don't know the first thing about this kid, but all-conference teams tend to be 50% BS If you're a pro prospect you'd make all-conference in the Chicago area. I can promise that.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 10:44 PM) At best, we can hope for something like a 7-4 win or 11-6 or something. At worst like an 11-2 blowout loss. You could say this about any game. Best case scenario: score double digits; worst case scenario: give up double digits.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 09:02 PM) 49 RBIs for Thompson on the season, which is good for 3rd in the league, despite a hopeless .217 avg, pretty much an amazing feat. That's what happens when you usually bat 3rd/4th and lead the league in extra bases. Adam Dunn-esque

QUOTE (OilCan @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) Jon Savarise, 31st round pick, going to NIU. He wasn't even first-team all-conference. The poor kid thinks he is an actual pro prospect by some of those quotes.
-
QUOTE (OilCan @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) Even weirder: 4.24 ERA at home, 1.52 ERA on the road. He has 8Ks through 5 IPs today. That's not weirder. Charlotte plays in a hitters' park.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 10:46 PM) Think he meant box office wise. I know, but the box office has little to do with how good a movie is (see Transformers).

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 10:43 PM) Actually forgeting about the FIFA rankings and all I think Poland and UMNT are pretty even, on the same level I'd say. That was basically my point. That said, the US did win a World Cup group that featured the team ranked 6th (England) so I don't think they'd be totally outclassed. Poland's 2 draws show they weren't either I guess. As for the rankings (which are meaningless), Poland sits 62 partially because they didn't have to qualify so they didn't have as many matches to rank them. -
Indianapolis @ Knights Zaleski Barons lost 2-1 Rienzo no control is his AA debut Dash won 9-5 to clinch playoff spot Bachanov rocked, but big days from Earley, Sanchez, Shoemaker and Black. Kanny won 3-2

QUOTE (forrestg @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 06:45 PM) I never hear to much about Tyler Kuhn he seems to handle every level I there any chance he can taste the bigs. He's playing 3rd bats lleft. Could he be any good in the bigs. He's having a mediocre season in Charlotte. I think he's a career minor leaguer.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 03:43 PM) Ugh, Poland dominated the first 30 minutes, couldn't score, then just sucked balls. Oh well, didn't expect them to advance anyway. It's funny because usually in this tournament I wonder where the US stacks up and realize they have a long way to go to catch up with most of the teams that make Euro. That said (and I know Poland didn't have to qualify) the US could take that team. They tied in a friendly at Soldier Field a couple years ago if that means anything, but Poland just didn't have the quality. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 11:55 AM) That's my Boy appears to be on the "Little Nicky" level bomb path. Little Nicky wasn't bad.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 02:09 PM) I'm getting a 15" laptop to be my new primary laptop at school, while traveling for college baseball, and whatever else it is I do. I don't have the budget to spend like I did when I bought my Mac that just went out on me. Is the upgrade to i7 worth the money or should I stick with i5? Should I upgrade to dedicated video card > i7? I will rarely game but usually have 10+ internet tabs going, music, word, maybe a few other programs on at once on a given night. Perhaps utorrent. MLB.tv when applicable. I can't speak for the i7, but I have an i5 and it handles a similar workload just fine.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 02:37 PM) I get he was pitching well, I am just surprised they would reward a guy coming off of a steroid suspension. It doesn't exactly send a good message to the rest of the minors. It depends on the situation. Obviously the Sox feel OK with where he stands. If they thought what he did was so objectionable he would have been released.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 01:35 PM) I had forgotten about him. Interesting that they moved him up, instead of someone who has been pitching well, and not suspended. In fairness Rienzo was pitching really well before the suspension. People were thinking about when his promotion would come and then we realized he was suspended.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 12:13 PM) Any idea how much bonus money they have left for going after someone like Ayala? Barnum signed for a bit under slot, but I doubt it's enough for Ayala. It's impossible to say without knowing the bonuses of the top 11 picks since that sets how much they have left. I'd guess 200-300k.
