Nice day for Joey DeMichele, who proved to be too good for rookie ball. He's been promoted to Kannapolis

Septimo looked solid. Control wasn't great, but he didn't miss in bad spots at least. As someone who has followed the minors intently for years, it's really fun to see all these homegrown players come up and do well. I'm really enjoying it for once. I understand guys like Septimo and Quintana were free agent pickups, but who cares the Sox got the most out of them.

I just noticed that Charlotte is way out in front in their division. More than 6 game lead. When was the last time they made the playoffs? They've been mediocre for a while. It sure goes along with all the talent the Sox have been able to get from AAA that has done well.

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) I'm curious about this guy's story. He's already 28, so he's paid his dues. That usually indicates one of two things: 1) no stuff, and/or 2) no control. However, if he has 99mph stuff with his K/BB ratio, what the hell took so long? Injuries, lots of injuries. I want to say 2 Tommy John surgeries and a shoulder problem not that long ago. He's just now getting back to full force with his stuff.

Looks like Brandon Kloess to AAA with Omogrosso promoted.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 08:52 AM) Anybody know how Jaffe did in the CWS? He didn't play. He barely pitched for the Bruins this season.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) I take this all day every day over Tyshawn Taylor. Of course you and I agree on this. I think it's a good pick because the Bulls do need a guard in the short term and this kid is a good athlete. Of course, he's probably going to really struggle in the period when Derrick is out so I don't know how much help he will be, but I don't want to see John Lucas getting extended minutes anymore. After all, it's the 29th pick. What do you expect?
-
Aww come on, Jones couldn't slip one more pick? Damn
-
Perry Jones would be a fun fit for OKC for no other reason than giving that team another athlete. Otherwise, I'm hoping the Bulls take a shot on him. I doubt they do though.
-
Yeah I like Melo because he can play D. He's a nice rotation piece, which at 22 is all you should expect.
-
Nice gamble this low in the first round. I didn't buy the hype when Sullinger was getting top 5-10 talk, but at 21 it's probably a solid pick.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 08:03 PM) The issue is, they're voice recognition systems. I use Siri for certain tasks, namely setting appointments or alarms...but other than that, 99% of what I do on my cell phone is VERY private...and I don't feel I need to be saying it aloud...whether it be financial stuff, email, texts...it's private...and it doesn't need to be spoken aloud just because. I've always complained about Siri because it's not really useful for me, but you explained it way better than I ever have. It does what it's supposed to, but ultimately who cares?

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 07:25 PM) Simon Castro- very nice so far! Final line: 7 IP, 0 R, 9 K, 0 BB, 4 H That should quiet some for a little while.

Am I the only one that thinks Bradley Beal being called a sharpshooter is laughable? 77% FTs, 34% 3P? Wouldn't a guy being compared to Ray Allen at least shoot better than average in something? He's compared to Ray Allen yet Allen shot over 40% from 3 all 3 years of college and shot at least 35% from 3 every year of his pro career. In other words he was never as mediocre as Beal.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 04:57 PM) Yeah, after the 4th set I thought Nadal was going to put the kid away but he didn't come close to breaking him in the 5th. 'The kid' is older than Nadal. He's more of a journeyman that caught lightning in a bottle.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) That's why they should make a longer break before the OT period to get some rest. or add an extra substitution or two as the game goes on. Ultimately, what Badger said about arguing with FIFA is true. However, there's a reason why OTs often lack excitement. It's because the players are tired. These players run miles during a match and to ask them to keep going would destroy the quality of play. Hockey players sub in and out with line changes and the rink is so much smaller so that it doesn't take a big burst to be near the goal and maybe have a chance to shoot. It takes a lot of work to get a soccer ball near goal and then put it on goal, especially when you're tired. I, for one, love penalties. It's not the preferred way to end a match if you're rooting for one of the teams, but as a neutral there's nothing better. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) Hockey players can rest. The problem in soccer is once you are out you cant come back. So with limited subs, some of those guys are playing 120 minutes, with no time on the bench except for between halfs, ot. Right, that's the main thing. It's just a different animal. Penalties aren't always fair, but they're always entertaining. It's the most tense moments and condensed drama in sport. I can understand people complaining about them, but as a fan they're great fun to watch. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 12:35 PM) The way they've used Septimo this year has been unusual. One inning, 3 or 4 days off, one inning, 2 or 3 days off. Not very Loogy like. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?s...&pid=465015 They don't use him like a loogy, but his numbers suggest he's probably not all that different from Ohman performance wise. Dominates lefties, walks a ton of righties.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 09:40 AM) How about you add another 15-20 minute break after extra time? Or allow for an extra few substitutions during OT? The option of penalties leads to many teams playing way too conservative. If that option wasn't there, I think teams would be more likely to attack and break the tie. It's not a perfect system, but it's really hard to find a better solution. Players really can't play much more than 120 minutes. They don't train and prepare for it. If you have a player that has a lot of energy left after 90 minutes he's not really pushing enough then is he? For comparison, could you imagine a football game lasting 6 quarters? The 30 extra minutes is 1/3 of a full game, any more than that is adding a ton. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 10:48 PM) Margin Call wasn't terrible. I used a few selected pieces of it with my ECON class here in China. HBO also did a similar movie on the 2008 crisis, can't remember the name of it off the top of my head though. Too Big to Fail and it was good.

I asked the Bristol Herald Courier reporter and he said sore shoulder.
