QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 07:58 PM) What's gotten into Rienzo. Rienzo has always been pretty successful and supposedly has a good fastball. He seems to have adjusted to AA pretty quickly, but I don't think it's super surprising.

Not a great game, but PKs always bring drama. I don't know what the Nani/Bruno Alves mix up was about, but I thought Alves was going to miss once he got iced by his own teammate. You gotta let him just go once he's made that much of that walk. -

This guy is putting up much better numbers, but that made me think of Ruddy Yan.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) Yeah, where the hell is he and why hasnt he started yet? He seems like he'd be on the fast track if the Sox can fix his issues from his Junior year He pitched 103.2 innings already during his college season. Only 6 guys in the Majors have pitched more than that right now. They're taking it easy with him for a little while I'd guess.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 02:23 PM) Douglas is a backup OF, Jarrad is a SS/2B. Jarrad takes Herbek's place, I'd assume. The current OF's on Kanny's roster are Haddow, Pugh, Rice and Walker. But Walker is on the DL, so, makes sense they are bringing up another body for the outfield, and only Walker and Haddow are anything other than filler. Wilson has been playing out there, but he's really an infielder. Wilson has played outfield exclusively since Walker hit the DL.
-
D.J. Jarrad and Andrew Douglas from GF to Kanny. That leaves the Kanny roster at 26 so someone else is out of there. I would guess it's a pitcher to go to W-S unless one of their hitters got released.
-
Nestor Molina has been placed on the Barons' DL. Stephen McCray moved up from Winston-Salem. Without any other corresponding moves the Dash have just 11 pitchers and Kannapolis has just 11 position players after Herbek's promotion. Bill Rice was recently activated for Kannapolis, but I assume they'll add an infielder shortly. My guess would be that sometime soon DeMichele gets moved up, but that's a total guess.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 10:29 PM) We should have some more solid bullpen guys coming up over the next couple years. That's a good point. It's a bit negative when you hear a guy that projects as a reliever, but having some of those guys succeeding in that role with the Sox it's a nice luxury to have. All these young guys are doing mostly well now and there are more on the way if needed. The bullpen situation is really awesome for the future.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 10:16 PM) He gave up 4 singles in the 6th. One was a ground ball fielded by the catcher. Another was a bunt single. He gave up one run and got pulled. Problem was the reliever (Infante) had trouble getting people out and the Knights made a couple of errors... So all 4 runners scored. So, not as bad a start as the numbers would make it look. Regardless of how you look at it, they hit .426 off him. I know hits against isn't always a good stat to use, but still that's a bit much.

Spain France was one of the most brutally boring, uneventful games I have ever seen. That was completely unwatchable. -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 08:24 AM) I gotta laugh at the inept Top Ten Prospect list on the Sox Web site. Three of the top ten have been on the Sox roster since late last year (Reed, Escobar, Flowers), one has been injured all year (Short), a couple others have struggled this year. Maybe they'll update it at mid season. This is not an indictment of the ten players listed, but rather it is so out of date. Looking forward the FutureSox list soon (I hope). Whoever makes their lists has no concept of prospect rankings. The FS one is in the works.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 11:56 PM) And I know it's waaaay too early, but it's hard not to get excited about Barnum's start. Very impressive for an 18 yr old kid hitting with a wooden bat for the 1st time on a regular basis. He clearly doesn't seem to be intimidated or overwhelmed by pro ball. It's really difficult to keep yourself from thinking amazing things when a high schooler hits 3 bombs in his first 4 pro games.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 09:25 PM) Mitchell might move up, but we'll see. Earley or Shoemaker then goes up to B-Ham, Haddow to W-S, and that opens up a spot in Kanny for someone. I'd rather not see Mitchell move up. He's only hitting .269. He's got nice numbers, but given what he's gone through emotionally and physically with that injury let him have success instead of promoting him to the point of (temporary) incompetence. Let him enjoy some success. He can be in AAA next year or have a shot at the big league club out of spring training next year.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 08:03 PM) Who is Euclides Leyer? He had a decent DSL 2 years ago at 17 years old and was at Bristol last year as well. He had OK numbers for an 18-year-old. He could be a legit prospect considering the Sox brought him to the US so young. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 09:33 PM) I really don't get why DeMichele started at Bristol. In reality the talent/experience difference between the Pioneer League and the Appy League is fairly small. There are a few more teams in the Pioneer that are used as the more advanced rookie team (like how the Sox use Great Falls), but the Appy League has some of those as well. Technically the leagues are the same level so it doesn't matter where the guy goes. Between Micah Johnson (9th rounder at GF) and DeMichele both guys are relatively high draft picks that are playing second base. One had to go to Bristol. I think we're more likely to see DeMichele promoted straight to Kanny than GF if he does really well.
-
Jon Gaston got released so Oester took his spot. A lot of odd shuffling going on in the minors. Walters to Winston-Salem and Rienzo to AA were notable promotions, but I think there are a few more in the works soon. The rosters don't look all that settled to me.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 08:03 AM) Yeah, I believe the penalties don't kick in until you go more than 5% over budget. So if I am figuring this right, we have the $100,000 we can offer to anyone outside of the first 10 rounds, plus the $159k we saved, which makes $259k. If you take 5% of our draft allotment, which is $5,915,100, that gives us another $295,755. Added together we could offer one player as much as $554,755 before being penalized (assuming we didn't go over 100k with any other player outside of rounds 1-10). Is that right? They did go over $100K for 12th rounder Zach Stoner. Supposedly gave him $120K.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) Kannapolis Intimidators ROSTER MOVE: Blair Walters has been promoted to Winston-Salem Dash! Official Press Release >> Spencer Arroyo to AA as well. The Barons needed a starter, though I'm not sure Arroyo will do well in AA.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 01:09 PM) Micah Johnson is a 9th round pick this year, so he's worth keeping an eye on. The rest of their lineup are just place-holders, until the new draft picks and others in AZ can get there to start playing. I was going through the names and there aren't many in Arizona at this point. Almost all of the unaccounted for guys have been released. I could see DeMichele getting moved up, though they might just send him to Kanny if he gets off to a hot start in Bristol.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 11:51 AM) Chris McFarland (SS), Larry Roenicke (LF) and Michael Nemeth (DH) all with 3 hits No top end picks playing on offense yet Great Falls doesn't really have any top end position player picks on the roster, but especially when you're looking at the wrong lineup. D'oh

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 12:41 PM) I don't think anyone ever said that putting a pair of eyes on the goal line meant that every single call would be correct. Link You keep bringing up the offside, but I don't care about this play. I care about the one that happened to the Fire on Sunday (that seemed more obvious and was also blown) and the others we've seen in time. It keeps happening and we can stop it, so let's stop it. They've got all kinds of weird s*** in and on the balls, what's a chip to tell you when it crosses.
