  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) "CNN affiliate KPRC in Houston said Lay was admitted to the Aspen Valley Hospital overnight with a massive coronary" Thanks. That ends that specualtion. Still, it's a shame the families won't see him go to jail.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 09:26 AM) Which is bulls***, because out of those 6 players, guess how many Guillen ACTUALLY picked. One. Was it one? I thought he picked Jenks, Buehrle and Konerko. Contreras, Thome & Dye were voted in by the players.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 09:24 AM) Unbelievable. All of the employees and shareholders finally see a little justice, and the guy doesn't even live to his sentencing... :shakeshead Without any real facts being released, the circumstances makes you wonder if he took the "easy way out".
  6. Interesting...was he in bad health? Was it the stress from the upcoming sentencing? Will we ever find out? http://money.cnn.com/2006/07/05/news/newsm...dex.htm?cnn=yes

  9. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) No surprise, Nathan strikes out the side. Why didn't the Royals just bring in Joe Nelson in the 8th? A's have something brewing with 2 on and nobody out. Put it on the board Jay Payton 3 run Jack! 5-3 Oak!! in the 8th
  10. Ace Ventura in the top ten? To me great comedies are ones where more than one person is given the chance to be funny, not regulated to watching one person try to be funny.
  11. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 09:49 PM) Uh, no. I didn't lump everyone in. I got into this when Ribbie said that one avy is basically the same as this thread. That's ridiculous. Let's be honest here. I never said that. I was implying that an avatar featuring Greg Walker with the words "WORTHLESS" was indicitive of the reactionary negativity that is growing here. Frankiensteiner then informed me his avatar was a sarcastic one and I retracted my statement concerning it. Jackie, please tell the full story before accusing me of anything.
  12. QUOTE(PJBMD @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 05:03 PM) It also does no good to chatise one and let your buddies slide. No one is letting anyone slide. But hi8is has been here for awhile is aware of the rules and consequences. There is no need to tell him. You only have 7 posts and might not be aware that personal attacks are not welcome here. Just giving you a heads up.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) Ebert only likes artsy tartsy films that no one in the real world likes. He should review Independant movies only, and just get on with it. I pay no attention to the fat man with no film taste. If it is anything like batman begins then it will be great. I cant wait to see it now. Except that he gave Batman Begins 4 stars...so was he wrong then too?
  14. QUOTE(PJBMD @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) I realize that living in your mother's basement all these years and having the second largest collection of Britney Spear dolls make you an expert in panties.....but, not in baseball. Is that better? I think your initial repsonse to this thread was also unwarrated. But you seem eager to be banned so I'll just let you continue.
  15. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) What's the deal with the new arm angles? Are they necessary? He seemed to be just fine before he started tinkering with new arm angles. Jose added a new angle since coming off the DL according to Coop. They worked not not using it again since it threw off his control.
  16. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) Not to be picky but I would say his first 2 months this year have been dominant. June numbers this year: 3-0 with a 6.21 ERA, batters hitting .314 against him. He needs to thank the offense for bailing him out. I agree and I'm sure he has. Let's see if Coop solved his arm-angle problem tomorrow.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) I gotta say dispite my hatred of all of thing Cirque, I am intreagued with this. It might never leave Vegas as the theather they are preforming in was specially designed just for this show. Soxtalk roadtrip?!?
  18. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) i did tell him that his panties are in the wash and that he was acting like he was on his period hahaha i think its hard to take that without saying anything in return. hahaha True, but his response to RME was a bit much.
  19. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) 1) We have three hitters on pace for 40+ home runs, and another on pace for 30. 2) Contreras and Buehrle are capable of being as dominant as Schilling and Johnson were in that season, and I sure as f*** like Garcia and Garland more than Omar Daal or whoever the f*** they were running out there 3) Bobby Jenks >>>>>> BK Kim As for the "no middle ground" contigent...it's ok to say "Buehrle sucked today." It's not ok to say something like "Buehrle sucks ("at all times" implied), and this team is not making the playoffs or winning the division or winning the world series." It's also not ok to say "Garland needs to be demoted" or "Vazquez is a piece of s***," because believe it or not, mediocre first halves happen. Ask Jose Contreras about 2005. And as much as you might like the White Sox coaching staff to react to your every whim, they're not going to do that, because sticking with a philosophy and fixing things from within is what won them a championship in 2005. EDIT: and the reason why I say it's not ok to say those things about Garland and Vazquez, because realistically, there's no way to use them on this team if they are not starting, and there's no guarantee McCarthy would be any better. CLEARLY the best course of action for now (while they are still WINNING!) is to stick with them until at least the end of July. Um...read back a few posts. The reference was directed towards Minnesota, not us.
  20. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) I find it funny that you have a playful, witty response to Steff's post yet you roll your eyes in another thread where I post a similar response as hers. Perhaps if I had breasts you'd be more playful with me? Even more so... QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 03:12 PM) They're ok, but I don't think they deserve that much credit... Agreed.
  21. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/ARI/2001.shtml Veteran team, veteran top 2 pitchers with a 57 hr hitter. Big difference.
  22. QUOTE(PJBMD @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) You fail to meet my expectations! What kind of BS poll is this? You pre-selected who has and hasn't lived up to expectations. Do you work for the Tribune too? How am I not correct in what I said? And how are you not a Some friendly advice: You best find a polite way of expressing your opinion...or find another message board. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 02:58 PM) My choice is "They all suck, they are doing horrible, we are doomed, we will not repeat, let's just cancel the rest of the season now." Are you a pessimist or a realist?
  23. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) Imo, the op provided a lot of perspective. Looking squarely at questions like, How tough will it be for Detroit to reach 100 wins?, is pretty good analysis for the standards of mb. Throwing out the 'chicken little' pic at a post like is just overreaction, another way of telling someone to shut up. I'm not disagreeing with you, btw. The starters are all above their career era averages (except Jose, maybe, I'm not certain -- but I think you have to look at those first couple years as rookie-like), so I think there's a very good chance we'll see significant improvements. And BA can't possibly hit this badly the whole year. But at least provide those "other figures and facts" you mention if you're gonna criticize that detailed a post. Perhaps it's the assertions that are derived from the facts. That we will be in third place, Santana/Liriano will never lose again this year and the Tigers will not falter. Now I agree our pitching has not been consistant this year. But our starters have a history and it's a solid one. But to assume that Minnesota/Detroit will not have any bad runs (especially with rookie/young pitching and unbalanced/unproven line-ups) is NOT looking at the facts and only looking to find the negative against us. But hey...We all want the same thing here. White Sox winners.

  25. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 02:05 PM) Well I guess we should just shut this board down since there isn't anything left to talk about. Thanks for not taking it to any extremes... :headshake
