  1. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 29, 2011 -> 12:06 AM) Wilkins w/ a walk in his 1st AB. His OBP is .500 the past 10 games.... He seems to finally be showing the skills we thought he had. Home runs in three straight games have his ISO at .200.
  2. Charlotte Dolsi Birmingham Axelrod Winston-Salem Doyle Kannapolis GM 1 - 8-1 loss. Heidenreich 2.1 IP, 6 ER Kannapolis GM 2 Ballinger
  3. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:07 PM) 1st mock draft that I can find, so far. BTW, this says Goodwin, a former Sox pick from last year, won't last past pick 25. http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/5/24/2187...draft#storyjump CJ Cron is another former Sox pick. He's pretty much a consensus 1st rounder at the moment as one of the most polished college bats.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 17, 2011 -> 01:29 PM) Think Gordon Beckham except more range and better hands. (though IMO Beckham has the better arm when he was the SS for Georgia) Jeff (Ozzie Ball) probably has a better scouting report than I do though. I'll defer to Mike Newman: http://scoutingthesally.com/tyler-saladino...g-report-video/ I'll take his opinion over most, particularly because it's first hand. You can never be sure where KG is getting his info from.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) Because in the grand scheme of things the record just doesn't matter. I mean, have you ever watched or went to check a minor league boxscore and said "f***! they lost!" I mean honestly. If they do well that's a bonus. No problem. But do you think Nationals fans care about the record of their low A affiliate or the progress of Bryce Harper? Or Angels fans with how Mike Trout is doing or their AA record? It's all meaningless. You're not understanding. Some people are fans of minor league teams and therefore want to see them do well. They don't give a s*** about what the prospects do, they just want to see the team win. Some people would buy Barons tickets to watch the prospects (you or I), others would buy Barons tickets to watch the Barons (John, I presume). See the difference?
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2011 -> 10:56 PM) If you purchase minor league tickets with actually caring about win-loss records then that's your fault. Why is supporting and wanting to see a minor league team do well and different to supporting and wanting to see a major league team to well?
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 11, 2011 -> 06:54 PM) Thoughts on Ross Wilson then? His stats haven't updated for today, but he went 2/3 with 2 BB. OBP probably at .415 or so, and he now has more BB than K on the year. Looks like a Chris Getz type player to me. Underwhelming tools, minimal power, can run the bases but is not a speedster. At most you can hope he doesn't kill you in average and takes a few walks.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2011 -> 11:31 PM) Well. Bryce Harper has a 1.161 OPS. He's quite something. Last years no. 3 pick Manny Machado is no slouch either. Hitting .333/.450/.611 with 5 home runs and 19 BB/14 SO. Plus he's a SS. Obviously a small sample size on Machado, but perhaps the A-Rod comps weren't as farfetched as originally thought.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2011 -> 05:59 PM) The small market teams are the ones at a real disadvantage without hard slotting, because they have to choose whether to spend money on the top level team or on the draft, and they also have much less leverage when trying to negoatiate an extension with a guy that does come up. I don't agree. The top spending teams in draft $ will only spend around $10m, or $4-5m above the average spending team. Heck even the top spending team over the last 3 years (Pirates) only spent $18m ($6m/year) more than the bottom spending team (our Sox). $6m a year will buy you all of what, 1.5 WAR on the open market? Not exactly the difference between being a basement dweller and playoff contender.
  10. Charlotte Hynick Birmingham Edwards Winston-Salem Rienzo Kannapolis Arroyo
  11. Dan Black's last 10- .500/.558/1.000. His ISO on the year is just under .300. Would be nice to see him at a higher level.
  12. Nice day for Blanke and Black- Blanke 6-9, 2B, HR, SO Black 5-7, 4 2B, 2 BB, SO. Blanke up to .305/.359/.542, Black at .298/.375/.526.
  13. Another home run for Trayce. He's up to 4 now in 46 AB.
  14. Charlotte Gaby Hernandez Birmingham Zaleski Winston-Salem Doyle Kannapolis Arroyo
  15. 3-3, 2B, 3B, 2 BB for Jose Martinez. Nice game for him. He's not been hitting for a huge amount of power, or walking a huge amount, but he is making a lot of contact.
  16. QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 06:49 AM) 1-4, HR, BB, K. Something tells me we'll see a lot of lines like this from Thompson this year. I suspect you may be right. The power is legit. I just hope he walks, because the strikeouts will probably always be there.
  17. Heidenreich shelled with 6ER in 0.2 IP. Thompson hit a homer off a legit prospect in Justin Grimm.
  18. Great start for Buch. Only 1 BB now in his 2 starts (12 innings). If he carries on with that kind of control, he's going to have a monster year.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 01:55 AM) Petricka is almost 23. Might he be too advanced for the Sally League? Definitely. Most scouts would probably tell you he's a reliever, too.
  20. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 10, 2011 -> 08:21 PM) So Petricka, Reed, and Heidenrich are the high ceiling pitchers to follow this year, right? Rienzo would of course be the other name on top of the guys Dan listed.
  21. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 26, 2011 -> 02:30 AM) Yeah he went from under the radar to overrated. It's a typical KG ranking though. Escobar's a legit short stop prospect, in a weak system AND he's from Venezuela. He was bound to sit near the top of this list.
  22. QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 10:57 PM) I think you underestimate how bad his year was and how old he is now. Deciding Flowers is no longer a legit prospect is a very defensible position. Few players with his K rate make it in the majors. Flowers' stock clearly slipped this year, but he still hit for good power and walked at a good rate. I could see bumping him out of the top 10 if you've got a deep system, but when you're bumping him for a 24 year old middle reliever who's just hit double-A, I'm not sure it's defensible.
  23. From Baseball America's Pioneer League top 20 list (Blanke's ranked #7): http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/pros...10/2610716.html
  24. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) I wouldn't put him on your Kyle McCulloch type hate list yet. If he wasn't KW's son, would you really get this irritated about him? He's played less than two full seasons in the minors. He's got athletic genes. And he showed significant improvement in the second half of the season this year... batting .282 after the all-star break. I think it's worth seeming him at the AA-level (and healthy) before we try to force him into retirement. You can't make this statement using batting average as your barometer. Batting average doesn't doesn't stabalise after 600 AB, let alone 156 AB. It doesn't tell you anything of worth (such as whether a player has made "significant improvement") in that small of a sample size.
  25. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) For the organization, yeah. I'm talking about you guys. It seems some of you really care if Great Falls or Winston-Salem wins their league title. Like will you order a 2010 Winston-Salem High A championship shirt? Oh my god. I busted out laughing typing that. To each their own. The minor leagues to me are nothing more then for player development. Yeah I'm the same. Obviously it's preferable if they win, but I don't care either way.
