  1. Plus there's that catcher we signed, he would be the first NDFA.
  2. Chris Zagyi has signed: http://www.nj.com/independentpress/index.s..._pitcher_b.html
  3. QUOTE (frankiethefixer @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 09:48 AM) In 4 years I'd love to see a line-up of RF- Danks 3B- Beckman LF- Quentin 1B- Allen DH- Viciedo SS- Ramirez C- Flowers 2B- Getz Cf- Mitchell I know it's highly unlikely all the prospects reach their potential but if they do we're set up for a great decade of baseball. I don't like Beckham at 3rd longterm, if we want him to be a star he needs to be a middle infielder, his bat just isn't good enough for him to be a great player at a CI spot.
  4. Holmberg signs. http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20090.../-1/NEWSSITEMAP
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 12:33 AM) He's been decent batting average-wise. I'd bring him up to Charlotte in July. Average is such a volatile statistic though making it fairly worthless as an evaluation tool, stats such as IsoP and IsoD are far better indicators of future success, and as it turns out, Flowers is excelling in those areas. Flowers is easily our 2nd best prospect and if you believe he's a catcher then he's right up there with Beckham for #1 prospect status, his offensive skill set is just that good.
  6. 3 homer game for Seth Loman, I never understood why he was demoted to Kanny because home run power aside he was hitting reasonably well.
  7. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 03:15 AM) Anyone have a scouting report on Dane Williams, ive heard Bearsox mention him a couple times but dont know anything about him. May I refer you to: http://futuresox.com/frontpage/?p=190
  8. Baseball America listed Jacob Wilson as the best remaining prospect from New Mexico, for whatever that's worth.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 08:04 PM) Thompson has to sign, otherwise that is a bad pick cause there was a lot of talent there. You don't take guys that early without the intent to sign em. The later picks you can take your chance on and hope to hit on em. And he was one of the comp picks so we won't even get it back if don't sign him.
  10. I really like this Buch pick. Just when you start to lose faith they reel you back in.
  11. Next pick in: KYLE BELLAMY, RHP, MIAMI Bellamy was a first-team all-conference choice in the Atlantic Coast Conference and was a key reason that Miami—unranked in the preseason—overachieved and finished in the ACC's top five teams. The Hurricanes have a long history of tremendous relievers, dating back to the Ron Fraser era (Rick Raether was the MOP of the 1985 College World Series) and enhanced during Jim Morris' Miami tenure, from Danny Graves and Jay Tessmer to George Huguet and 2008 first-rounder Carlos Gutierrez. Bellamy could work out better than Tessmer and Huguet thanks to a heavy, sinking fastball that is his trademark. When he's fresh, Bellamy works at 88-91 mph; he loses velocity when he works on back-to-back days, sometimes dipping into the 84-87 range. Bellamy's success as a pro will hinge on improved fastball command and improved consistency with his frisbee slider, which lacks depth and power. -BA
  12. I can't find anything on Heidenreich, anyone else having any luck?
  13. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) Where can I find the full list of picks the Sox drafted? I know its somewhere in this thread. First post.
  14. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) Is there a list of White Sox draft picks? I tried to bring up the MLB.com draft tracker, but you couldnt sort by team picks, only by player http://futuresox.com/frontpage/?p=121 Also you can look at the selection by team on mlb.com, just use the "Selections by Team" drop down box.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) I'd like to see a couple more high-upside arms on our board. Me too, I'm really hoping for Keyvius Sampson who I like a lot, 95-96mph fastball, hammer curve, improving change and he's a great athlete.
  16. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 12:41 AM) Why is Tanner Schepper still available?Health issues and bonus demand.
  17. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 11:32 PM) #7. Atlanta Braves - Mike Minor, LHP, Vanderbilt University I'm very happy he's not there for us to pick.
  18. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) The first 8 picks are pretty much set: 1. Nats - Strasburg 2. M's - Ackley 3. Padres - Tate 4. Pirates - Sanchez 5. O's - Hobgood 6. Giants - Wheeler 7. Braves - Minor 8. Reds - Matzek OR White Mayo said Matzek, Callis said White I'll s*** my pants if Crow falls to 23. Some teams worry about his mechanics, but I think they are fine and he'll stay healthy for at least until he's 30. Scheppers or Crow would be amazing and would certainly fit the bill of a "high upside" player that Rick Hahn said we were after on sabermetrics night.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 02:28 AM) Be nice for Allen to get it going. His numbers during his call-up to Birmingham last year were sick. I'd be very surprised if he shows those home run numbers again. Allen had a 20.3% HR/BIA rate at Birmingham last year, that's unfeasibly high, and as a result his power numbers this year look rather paltry in comparison. As a point of reference not one qualified player in the Majors had a HR/BIA rate in the 20% range last year, Howard, Cust and Dunn were the closest at 19.6%.
  20. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 10:48 PM) That's how I felt too until it looks like whatever team takes Storen will make him a starter. If that's the case, then it's a great pick b/c a guy with Storen's stuff that was already a SP probably wouldn't last to #23. That's a fair point, if we draft him and make him a starter I won't mind that pick. Reymond Fuentes seems to be the name linked with us a lot recently and I have to say I hope to god that we don't take him at 23 (or 38). Potential leadoff hitters that can't walk? No thanks. I see him as a future 4th outfielder/pinch runner.
  21. I really hate the thought of drafting a reliever in the 1st round. You should be using the first round pick to bolster your farm as much as possible and drafting a reliever would completely contradict this as it's by far the least valuable position. Lets say you take Storen at 23 and he reaches his full potential, he's still only going to be around a 2.4WAR player (and even that's a stretch), last year there were around 140 players who had a WAR above 2.5 and only 2 of them were relievers.
  22. If I'm drafting a high school arm this is the type of prospect I'd target, I think he sounds great. Here's another brief scouting report on him that just backs up what you've posted. From the PGCrosschecker:
