  2. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 06:16 PM) Carter was drafted so "low" because his numbers last year in college were awful. He has an electric arm but had little control at ODU. His fastball can reach 97 but I've heard little about his secondary stuff. But just looking at his stats in Great Falls, it seems like the Voyagers coaches made some really good adjustments and his control has been very solid. His progression obviously depends on how well he develops a changeup, but you have to be optimistic about his future. Yeah it's tough to find anything about his secondary stuff, this is about all I could find:
  3. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 09:03 AM) in what city do we play our AFL games? It seems to change a lot, last year it was Phoenix and the year before that it was Scottsdale.
  4. QUOTE (forrestg @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 07:10 AM) Would beckham and Danks qualify for Arizona fall league or is that for more seasoned players? It might not be in their contracts. Just a thought. I believe they're both eligible to participate, I know Matt LaPorta participated last year which was the same year he was drafted. I'm not entirely sure on all the regulations however.
  5. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) Thinking he will be a success is just as right as predicting he will do nothing, IMO. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so I don't know why people are berating him about thinking Danks is overrated. I for think he will be wrong, and I am sure he hopes he is wrong, too in the end, but he can have an opinion. I didn't say he couldn't have an opinion I was just asking what he was going by, If he's seen some scouting reports which completely take apart Danks' game and show why he'll never amount to anything, or if he's been watching him all year and knows his game well then fair enough, but if he's just pulling stuff out of his arse then it was really a pretty pointless statement. There's a difference between an informed opinion on a subject and a pure guess.
  6. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) Overrated. I think he'll turn out like Sweeney who wasn't good enough for the Sox apparently. I mean, I like Danks, but I just don't see him being as good as everyone projects which is better than Ryan. Based on what? Gut instinct? or have you been watching him all year and your professional scouting ability tells you he's overrated?
  7. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 05:09 AM) Anybody know what the slot recommendation was for Beckham? Slot is estimated at $2,230,000 for the no. 8 pick.
  8. A homer in three straight games for Shelby and he now has 13 on the year.
  9. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:11 AM) Danks over Beckham? Wow...that might have been the dumbest post you have made. But that's not what he said because it'd be Danks plus the number 8 pick next year or Beckham.
  10. Steven made his first pro start today (08/07/08) throwing five shutout innings, allowing just the one hit, issuing three walks and striking out five. Some select statistics through his first four career outings: 2.08 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 11.08 K/9, 2.67 K/BB
  11. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 02:57 AM) Hudson 5IP 0R 4BB 7K. He's got great peripherals so far, I'd like to know what kind of stuff he has. Saberscoiting did a report on him:
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 04:17 AM) I'm going to have to watch that... I love mlb.tv (when it's not malfunctioning). MLB.tv never malfunctions.
  13. Hey guys does anyone know if Griffey would be a Type A/B free agent if we were to buy him out? Or would they buying out make us ineligible to offer him arbitration and thusly not receive any compensation.
  14. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 06:22 AM) I feel clueless...O-Dog? Orlando Hudson.
  15. Sorry, yeah, you guys know what I mean.
  16. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 07:49 AM) I believe Ozzie was very high on him this spring. Probably gonna be the backup catcher next year if he keeps hitting this well. Hes also hitting 444 for the 3 weeks hes been in charlotte The only problem with him is that he hits lefty and his batting average against righties is .083 this year at Charlotte. So not the ideal backup for A.J.
  17. Dexter Carter with a nice start, 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K He's been looking pretty good all year (2.81 ERA, 25.2 IP, 35K/11BB)
  18. ^Subscription required sorry I should have said for that link.

  21. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 19, 2008 -> 01:28 AM) Yep. Brandon Allen continuing to feast on AA pitching. And not just any old AA pitching either but some of very best with Price and now Hellickson.
  22. QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 03:53 PM) I hear a few people talking about Twitter... how do you get this? http://twitter.com/cst_sox
  23. It seems Gerst's injury hasn't caused him to miss a beat, he went 2-3 with a grand slam, 4 runs scored, 3 walks (that's great to see) and a stolen base. His OPS on the year now is at 1.197, admittedly that's only through 12 games but he does already have as many extra base hits this year (8) as he had all of last year (57 games).
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 04:15 AM) Q in right field would be an unmitigated disaster, he's pretty mediocre to bad in left field. Add in Dye and his diminishing by the day range, even in left field, and our stud center fielder better be an AMAZING fielder. Dye has done his best and made some good plays on defense this year, but he looks more and more like a DH everyday. I don't really agree with this. This year has been the only year Quentin has looked anything like below average defensively in his career. Every report you read on him says he's at least average as a corner outfielder with the potential to be very good. I'm just looking at his rate2 from the past two years in Arizona and he's at 104 which would suggest he's been slightly above average in right. So to say he'd be an "unmitigated disaster" is just ever so slightly over the top, but then again I have come to expect that from the majority of posters on this forum. As for Dye, his range may be down from the last two years but it's just about in line with the rest of his career (going off his range factor here) and his rate2 (my favourite of defensive statistics) is at 113, which is fantastic and is better than supposed stud right fielders such as Alexis Rios, Nick Markakis and Ichiro (when he played there).
  25. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 01:51 AM) Who's system is Che-Hsuan Lin in? Red Sox QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 01:51 AM) Burgeious (sp?) will be the Sox RF'er when Dye's contract is up in what, 1-3 years? God I hope not.
