  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 03:11 AM) Torn Labrum found during surgery on Bedard. Done for the year, gonna be a rough offseason for him. Could be a buy low candidate for someone, but shoulder surgeries are really ugh. That will surely go down as one of the worst trades in Seattle's history. I do like Bedard as a buy low candidate though.
  2. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 02:09 AM) Hudson's back out for the 7th. Quick inning, 7 pitches; 7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K.
  3. Hudson's back out for the 7th.
  4. Hudson settling down very nicely after a rough first inning; 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 5 K. 89 pitches so he may be done.
  5. Charlotte vs. Norfolk Hudson starting against Arrieta, should be a good one Birmingham at Carolina John Ely starting Winston-Salem at Frederick Justin Edwards on the mound Kannapolis at Asheville Sauer starting Bristol vs. Elizabethton Great Falls at Idaho Falls
  6. Baseball America lists Bryan Morgado as "May get over-slot bonus" and Justin Jones as "Expected to attend California" in their update of the unsigned players from the first 10 rounds. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft...009/268711.html
  7. I wouldn't bring him up, I think he'd be over matched at the plate and we don't need to knock his confidence unnecessarily. I do hope we see him in the AFL though.
  8. Peavy's fastball sat low 90's, he got the curve over often for several of his strikeouts.
  9. Charlotte vs. Pawtucket The Peavious one starting Audio Birmingham at Carolina Shirek starting Winston-Salem at Wilmington Anthony Carter starting Kannapolis at Asheville Serafin starting Bristol vs. Elizabethton Great Falls at Casper
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 11:26 PM) Flowers shouldn't be a DH unless the Sox have a third catcher and Flowers' defense isn't good enough to start. Also, I'd be hesitant to play Flowers at 1B for fear of a Toby Hall injury repeat. Flowers played a lot, if not primarily, at first base in '06 and '07 so I wouldn't be too worried about it. Hall's injury seemed like a real freak occurrence.
  11. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 13, 2009 -> 01:17 AM) Atta boy Juan!!!! I really miss this guy on our team.... Me too. While he was frustrating at times he was also one of my favourite players.
  12. Charlotte vs. Pawtucket Birmingham at Carolina Winston-Salem at Wilmington (GM1) Winston-Salem at Wilmington (GM2) Kannapolis off Bristol at Johnson City Upchurch starting. Great Falls at Casper
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) And how many WS winning teaming have followed this "wizard"? Thats why people manage games and not computers. And how many teams have followed this formula? Just because it's unproven doesn't mean it's wrong.
  14. Let's give one of our least productive hitters the most AB's. Sounds like a plan to me.
  15. Ugly line from Holmberg: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R (3 ER), 5 BB, 3 K.
  16. Charlotte vs. Pawtucket Zaleski with the start. Birmingham vs. Tennessee Winston-Salem off. Kannapolis vs. Greensboro Bristol at Johnson City Holmberg starting. Great Falls at Casper
  17. I'd easily take Carter due to the elite level power and superior walk rate.
  18. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 08:16 PM) I can only hope that we'd drop Thome in favor of bringing back JD as DH. Thome has limited value for this team from this point forward. Also, for someone that gets dropped off the discussion so quickly, don't write AJP off. He is quietly having a very productive season offensively, and that type of production doesn't come along all the time, and certainly not from a first year starter. You put Quentin in RF, let...ugh...Pods come back maybe for LF, and that is a solid lineup with an outstanding starting rotation to back it up. Thome has limited value? He's easily been our best hitter this year and is just about our only true OBP guy and left handed power threat. His bat has more value to this team than Dye's. I agree on A.J. though, he's been our most valuable offensive player this season in terms of WAR, I'd happily see him back next season.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) This. Dye's defensive game has gotten pretty bad, but his arm is still his best asset, for what that's worth. TCQ has a worse arm, but covers a lot more ground. It therefore makes zero sense to have those two flip positions. Dye just needs to be moved to DH, or possibly converted to 1B if he can pick up that skill set. By no means a perfect stats but: ARM (outfield arm runs): Outfielder’s get credit (plus or minus) depending on what the runners do on a hit or a fly ball out. A runner can stay put, advance, or get thrown out. A fielder will get credit not only if he throws out more than his share of runners, but also if he keeps more than his share of runners from advancing extra bases. Jermaine Dye this season: -2.4 (ranks 53rd amongst 66 qualified outfielders) Jermaine Dye since 2002: -27.1 Quentin by the same method: +2.8 this season +4.8 career Quentin's numbers are a little strange, his range has been far superior in RF (+8.1 RngR in RF, -14.6 RngR in LF), while his arm has been better in LF (understandable) coming in at +5.1 in LF and -0.3 in RF. It's probably just inaccuracies caused by an unsubstantial sample size, but interesting to note nonetheless. Swapping those two would probably help this team but getting Dye out of the outfield should be an offseason priority.
  20. QUOTE (spiderman @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 04:42 AM) What is LD% and what is considered a FB/HR ratio? Line drive percentage. The average HR/FB percentage is around 10-11% or the average HR/BIA (FB+LD+IF) is around 6.5%.
  21. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) Game's on MiLB.tv everybody. Anyone have login details that they wouldn't mind sharing?
  22. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 08:10 AM) He does have a gold glove in his collection I'm not sure if this is a serious comment or not but I'll just throw out Nate McClouth's name as a rebuttal.
  23. QUOTE (nyck170 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 04:54 AM) With the possibility of Rios coming in, anyone else concerned about the lack of left-handed hitters on this team, especially going into next year? Considering both Thome and Pods may not be back next season coupled with Rios' possible presence, the only projected left-handed hitters would be Getz and AJ, neither of which hit for power. Couple that with the fact that the closest position prospect hits from the right side (Flowers), this seems disconcerting. I'd bring Thome back next year, partly for this reason but more so because he's been our best hitter this season. Well actually I'd try a flip a prospect or two to the Nats for Adam Dunn, but bringing back Thome would be plan B.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 04:15 AM) If you guys want to mock me for standing up for Jermaine Dye, by all means do so. He is not "atrocious" or "horrendous" in the outfield. You act like every ball hit out there drops. Jermaine Dye is a f***ing stud. You disgree with this?? Wow. Excuse me while I pop in my World Series tape. In Dye's first four seasons with the Sox ('05 through '08) he has a combined +6.8 WAR (wins above replacement), that averages out to +1.7 WAR per season, in other words, he's been far from "studly" (there were precisely 111 players with a WAR higher than 1.7 last season). I like Dye, he's done some great things for this club in his time here but he's by no means an irreplaceable player.
  25. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 03:16 AM) In RF? Not really. He has a combined -74.7 UZR over the last 3 and a half seasons in RF. He's an atrocious defender. It's unfortunate that people listen to Hawk's crackpot opinions because he's wrong a large majority of the time.
