Colts released Pierre Desir for some reason. Wonder if they are bringing in a new CB - Desir was pretty decent so an odd move.

OOTP 21 Sim of 2020
Just a partial update tonight. May 16: White Sox 3, Blue Jays 1. Hey! Consecutive wins! Solo dongs by Encarnacion (12), Abreu (9) and Collins (3) accounted for three of the four hits for the Sox (Collins also had a single) and Dylan Cease had a strong, if truncated start (4.2 IP, 3 H, ER, 3 BB, 6 K) and Connor Sadzeck picked up his first win with the Sox. Hyun-Jin Ryu was pulled after two innings with a sprained ankle and the Sox tied the game in the fourth with Edwin's home run. Collins eighth inning tater proved to be the game winner. The Sox still sit just one game out of first. 24-22 May 17: Blue Jays 11, White Sox 9 (10). Welp, the bats woke up, but it wasn't enough to overcome a blown save. Home runs by Fisher (6), Robert (3), Jimenez (7) and Grandal (7) were not enough as Michael Kopech was hit around (4.2 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) and Alex Colome blew the save in the ninth before Kelvin Herrera gave up a two run shot to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the tenth. Mendick (2-4), Fisher (2-4), Grandal (2-5) and Jimenez (3-6) had multi hit efforts for the Sox. The Sox sit still just one game back.....but are now in fourth. 24-23 May 19: White Sox 4, Rockies 0. Maybe the day off did some good. Yoan Moncada knocked Luis Robert in with a double in the fifth to take a one run lead before being knocked in by an Abreu single, and solo dongs by Edwin Encarnion in the sixth and eighth (14) were more than enough to back up Dallas Keuchel as he picked up his fifth win (5.1 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K). Luis Robert has raised his average to a still-paltry .155. The Sox are still a half game out of first, but they re back in second. After the game, RoboHahn would flip Bennett Sousa to AAA for Jace Fry. 25-23 May 20: Rockies 2, White Sox 1 (13). Ugh. Thirteen innings, four hits. Two Luis Robert singles, a Tim Anderson double, and a Derek Fisher solo shot (7). Moncada? 0-6. Abreu? 0-6. Jimenez? 0-6. Encarnacion? 0-4. Grandal? 0-5. Mendick? 0-3. Reynaldo Lopez was strong out of the gate (6.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 8 K) but the bullpen could only do so much as Ian Hamilton gave up a solo home run to David Dahl in the thirteenth. The Sox bats could not respond. After the game, RoboHahn would send Jace Fry, who did not pitch, back to Charlotte for Bennett Sousa. These are the only moves he makes. 25-24 May 21: Twins 10, White Sox 9. Whenever the Sox bats have woken up lately, the bullpen has managed to give it back. Both Yasmani Grandal (9) and Edwin Encarnacion (16) had two home run games, but every Sox pitcher (Kubat, Sadzeck, Sousa, Herrera, Bummer and Marshall) would give up runs in this one. Kubat was decent in his start (5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 3 K), but two home runs by Alex Avila, including a walk off shot in the ninth, were too much to overcome. Guess which two bullpen pitchers RoboHahn would flip flop after the game? And in other MLB news, George Springer just signed a 7 year deal worth $202,200,000. 25-25. May 22: Twins 1, White Sox 0. This is going sideways. Jake Odorizzi was nearly untouchable as the Sox could only manage two hits from Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert. Dylan Cease was awesome (6.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, BB, 6 K) but Ian Hamilton would give up a walkoff home run to Nelson Cruz to send the Sox to their third straight defeat. Odorizzi would throw a complete game shutout with no walks and ten strikeouts. The Sox are hitting .233, good for 28th in baseball. 25-26 May 23: Twins 9, White Sox 4. The Sox would score four in the ninth, but it wasn't near enough after spotting the Twins a 9-0 lead. A Cheslor Cuthbert RBI double and a Moncada home run accounted for the extent of the run-scoring in this one. The Sox would scatter thirteen hits in this one, but 14 men left on base and 11 strikeouts would prevent any more danger. Michael Kopech's ERA has ballooned to 6.42 (4.1 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 2 K) and the Sox are having trouble. RoboHahn did his usual Fry/Sousa switcheroo after the game. Yasmani Grandal is second in All-Star voting at catcher, while Edwin Encarnacion is in first. 25-27 May 24: Twins 10, White Sox 9. You'd think a 7-2 lead after two and a 9-3 lead after six would have been enough in this one. You'd be wrong. Dallas Keuchel was pulled in the fifth (4.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 2 K) and Ian Hamilton, Kelvin Herrera, and Evan Marshall would combine to give up seven runs and only get five outs in the seventh and eighth innings of this one. The Sox would string together fifteen hits with every starter picking up at least one, but it would not matter. Miguel Sano would homer in both the seventh and the eighth to spur the Twins comeback. Everything sucks. After the game, RoboHahn would attempt to fix everything by optioning Ian Hamilton for Jace Fry instead of Bennett Sousa. 25-28

May 1: Orioles 7, White Sox 0. The slide continues. The Sox only muster four hits (of course Mendick had one), and while Cease had a decent start (5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K), it didn't matter. Heuer (2 R) Foster (R) and Herrera (2 R) made sure the Sox were out of reach in this one. Both Heuer (shoulder inflmmation, 5 weeks) and Alex Colome (diagnosis pending) left this one due to injury, so it was a night full of bad news. Ian Hamilton would replace Heuer on the roster after the game. But hey, at least Danny Mendick leads the AL in average (.352) 15-17 May 2: White Sox 5, Orioles 2. Good news on two fronts. Not only did the Sox win, but Alex Colome is simply day-to-day with back spasms. The Sox bats wake up for the first time in a while with home runs by Moncada (6), Grandal (4) and Encarnacion (9). Every starter except for Jimenez and Robert gets a hit in this one. Mendick, of course, got his daily single (.351) and Dallas Keuchel picks up his fourth win (6 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K). Aaron Bummer picked up the save while Colome gets a day off to heal his back. 16-17 May 3: Orioles 7, White Sox 3. So much for the good vibes from yesterday. Reynaldo Lopez is chased in the third after allowing five runs and the Sox can only muster five hits on the day. A two run shot in the bottom of the ninth by Encarnacion (10) narrowed the game to its final margin. Jimenez had two hits, including a triple. Mendick did not get a hit. Nor did Moncada, Grandal, Anderson or Robert. Luis is now hitting .136. Grandal, just .196. Hey, at least Andrew Vaughn is hitting .353 in Birmingham. 16-18 May 5: White Sox 5, Rays 4. Hey! A comeback! A solo shot by Abreu in the seventh tied the game, and Yoan Moncada scored Tim Anderson on a sac fly in the eighth to give the Sox a lead they would not relinquish. Abreu would have three hits on the night, including two doubles. Michael Kopech was spotty again (5 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K) but Sousa, Bummer and Colome would allow only one base runner in the final four innings. Adam Engel got the start over Luis Robert in CF and is now 0-9 on the year. Still better news than that for Lance McCullers, who is now out for the year with shoulder issues. 17-18 May 6: White Sox 4, Rays 3. Back to .500! And just a half game back of the Royals. And Twins. And Indians. A Grandal three run shot (5) in the first and an Anderson solo HR (4) in the second was all the Sox would need (and all they would get; seriously, just two hits) as Dylan Cease would strike out 10 in 5.1 IP, allowing three runs, and the bullpen trio of Foster, Marshall and Colome would allow just one hit over 3.2 IP. Sadly, Edwin was caught stealing in this one. 18-18 May 7: White Sox 4, Rays 3. A sweep! Trailing 3-0 in the eighth, Derek Fisher again engaged clutch-mode and tied the game on a three run shot (4). Then pinch hitting for a strangely hitless Danny Mendick, Nomar Mazara would walk the game off (1) against Tampa reliever Nick Anderson. Aaron Bummer would pick up the win in relief after a strong start by Dallas Keuchel (8 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 4 K). Austin Meadows had two dongs for the Rays, accounting for all three of their runs. The Sox sit just a half game out of first. 19-18 May 8: Giants 9, White Sox 0. Interleague play hit again, and again, the Sox did not. Just six hits on offense - all singles - against former Sox righty Jeff Samardzija. Reynaldo Lopez (5.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 4 BB, K, 5.90 ERA) may be starting to lose his grip on a rotation spot - something surely in mind with Lucas Giolito on a rehab assignment. Tim Anderson was the only Sox starter not to strike out in this one - he had two hits. The rest of the Sox had 13 K's. Big news from LA, though, as Mike Trout will miss three months with a partially torn labrum. He was hitting .290 with 14 home runs in 36 games. 19-19 May 9: Giants 2, White Sox 0. More corpseball. A single by Tim Anderson was the extent of the offense. Evan Marshall was the opener and threw a scoreless first, before Gio Gonzalez came in, allowed two runs in 4.1 IP, and left the game with injury. After the game it was reported he had shoulder tendinitis and would miss six weeks. At least Yoan stole a base after a walk. Gio would be replaced by Kyle Kubat after the game, and Matt Foster was optioned to Charlotte and replaced by Jace Fry. Shuffling of deck chairs by RoboHahn? But hey, we also found out Samardizja was found to have bone chips after his last start, and he's out for the year. 19-20 May 10: White Sox 2, Giants 1. It's not much, but it'll do. Kyle Kubat gets a win in his major league debut (6.1 IP, 10 H, 1 R, 0 BB, K) as the Sox turn four double plays in the field. An Eloy solo shot (6) in the first would give the Sox an early lead, and Tim Anderson would plate Yoan Moncada with an RBI double in the third. That was more than enough for the quartet of Kubat, Marshall, Bummer and Colome, as they scattered 12 Giants hits in the series finale. The Sox still sit just one game out of first behind the Royals. 20-20 May 11: White Sox 1, Padres 0. Continuing a theme of shitty offense, the Sox get just three hits on the game. Thankfully, they all happened consecutively in the fourth inning. Moncada singled, Anderson singled, and Jimenez singled. That was the offense. Thankfully Dylan Cease (5.2 IP, H, 4 BB, 8 K) was strong, and Fry, Sousa and Colome would scatter just two hits the rest of the game. Eloy worked a walk too, I guess. 21-20 May 12: Padres 5, White Sox 2. The Sox bats don't like NL pitching. The Sox actually had eight hits, but a Danny Mendick double was the only of the extra base variety as the cluster luck of the previous game went missing. Michael Kopech scattered three hits in five scoreless innings, but Ian Hamilton would let up four runs in a brutal sixth inning. He would be relieved by Kevin Herrera, who would be pulled after just one batter due to injury (shoulder tendinitis, day-to-day). The Sox just can't shake the .500 mark. After the game, RoboHahn would send Fry to Charlotte for Matt Foster. This is his only entertainment now. 21-21 May 13: White Sox 4, Padres 3. Even the wins are like pulling teeth. Luis Robert would hit his first big league home run (.125, 1 HR, 5 RBI) and Eloy Jimenez would get three hits, but Dallas Keuchel would leave in the third with a sprained ankle, and the Sox bullpen would make things interesting in the eighth before Aaron Bummer slammed the door after Alex Colome was pulled in the ninth. Keuchel is day to day. Even more bad news hit the pitching staff, however, as Lucas Giolito suffered a setback on rehab and is expected to spend another six weeks on the IL. After the game, RoboHahn did his usual bullpen shuffle, sending Ian Hamilton to Birmingham, recalling Matt Foster, then instantly optioning Foster for a former Mariner reliever, Connor Sadzeck. I don't know who he is either. 22-21 May 14: White Sox 3, Blue Jays 2. Another late comeback! The Sox would tie it up in the ninth on a Tim Anderson solo shot (5), Luis Robert would double and Jose Abreu would walk the game off with a single to give the Sox a late victory. Robert would have a solo shot in the fifth for his second home run. Moncada, Abreu, Encarnacion and Robert both had two hit games, and Reynaldo Lopez was alright! (5.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 6 K). After the game, RoboHahn did what he does, sending Matt Foster down for Ian Hamilton. Zach Thompson was also resigned to a minor league deal. 23-21 May 15: Blue Jays 11, White Sox 3. Kubat's second start didn't go so hot. He was run in the second (1.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, K) and thats really all it took. Connor Sadzcek threw a hitless 1.1 innings, I guess. Fisher (5) and Grandal (6) both went deep. Cheslor Cuthbert has been on the roster all year and just received his sixth at-bat. He is hitless. Tim Anderson (.323) and Danny Mendick (.302) were the only starters today hitting above .262. The offense is officially something we are worrying about as the Sox sit, still, somehow just two games out of first. 23-22

April 16: White Sox 7, Rangers 6. The Sox scored four in the seventh to erase a 6-3 Ranger lead to push above .500 again. Yoan Moncada continues to heat up with a three hit game, while Abreu (5), Jimenez (4) and Encarnacion (7) all go deep. Keuchel was okay (6.1 IP, 6 R, 4 ER, 9 H, BB, 2 K) but Rangers starter Kyle Gibson was pulled with back issues in the third, and seven Rangers relievers could not stem the tide. Danny Mendick, of course, picked up another hit for the seventh time in eight games. (.377) 10-9 April 17: White Sox 6, Rangers 5. Chicago pulls within a half game of division leader Kansas City with another comeback. Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the eighth, new acquisition Derek Fisher stepped up to the plate and walloped a grand slam for his first home run as a member of the White Sox. Jose Abreu also contributed with a solo shot (6) in the sixth. A few question marks remain in the starting lineup with sub-.200 averages by Grandal (.196) and Luis Robert (.118). Danny Mendick, of course, picked up another base hit. (.375). Reynaldo Lopez was serviceable again (5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 5 K) despite spotty control. Aaron Bummer came in for the save in the ninth, but was chased after two walks. Ian Hamilton picked up his first save of the year. After the game, RoboHahn optioned Matt Foster to AA and purchased the contract of Bennet Sousa from Birmingham. 11-9 April 18: White Sox 7, Rangers 3. The Sox stay hot, jumping out to a three run lead in the first with a three run shot by Derek Fisher (2). Fisher's average on the year is up to .312, but still remains a ways away from Tim Anderson's team leading .388 average. Oddly, Danny Mendick went 0-4. Moncada (.241), Anderson, Robert (.143) and Collins (.235) each picked up base hits in the game. Michael Kopech was masterful in six strong innings (2 H, 1 ER, BB, HBP, 6 K) and Bennet Sousa allowed a solo shot to Robinson Chirinos before finishing off the victory in his debut. 12-9 April 19: Rangers 6, White Sox 2 (6 INN). What a weird loss by the White Sox. RoboRenteria decided to flip the script in the starting rotation. With Gio Gonzalez still dealing with some back soreness, Evan Marshall started as an opener and lasted just 11 pitches (.2 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 K) before being relieved by Gonzalez. Gonzalez cruised along until the fifth, where he was battered for five runs. Codi Heuer was able to stop the bleeding, but it was too late before the game was called due to rain in the sixth. Solo shots by Moncada (2) and Abreu (7) accounted for the Sox scoring. After the game, Heuer was sent to AAA and Matt Foster was recalled from Birmingham. 12-10 April 20: White Sox 7, Royals 5. Your White Sox are back in first place! Trailing 5-4 in the seventh, the Sox seized the lead on back to back solo home runs by Yasmani Grandal (3) and Derek Fisher (3) to take a lead they would never relinquish. Multi hit efforts by Moncada, Abreu, Encarnacion, Grandal, Fisher and Mendick paced the Sox during a 15 hit performance. Cease had another strong start (5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 10 K). Ian Hamilton and Bennet Sousa combined to allow three runs in relief, but Herrera, Bummer and Colome (4 SV, 1.08 ERA) threw 2.2 hitless innings to finish off the win. Colome was diagnosed with mild back spasms after the game, and Jose Abreu was pulled while running the bases. Something to watch. 13-10 April 21: White Sox 5, Royals 4. The good times keep on rolling. Yoan Moncada keeps heating up and gives the White Sox a 5-3 lead on a three run shot in the sixth (3) and Dallas Keuchel picks up his second win on the season (6.2 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) as the Sox push their lead in the Central to 1.5 games over the Royals. Abreu and Colome both returned to action, though Colome was spotty while picking up his fifth save (IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 K). Luis Robert picked up a single to inch his average up to .172, while Nomar Mazara makes a rare appearance (0-2, BB, R). Yoan is now hitting .265. Edwin hasn't stolen a base in a while, however. Oh, and Mendick picked up another single to keep his average at .353. He's probably feeling comfortable at second, and he doesn't need to worry about Nick Madrigal, who hit the IL with an ankle issue in Charlotte. 14-10 April 22: Royals 6, White Sox 1. It looked like the Sox might extend their lead in the Central after taking a 1-0 lead in the fifth after an RBI single by Danny Mendick (.366) knocked in Tim Anderson (.351), but five runs allowed between Reynaldo Lopez and Matt Foster in the seventh and eighth innings were too much to overcome. Encarnacion (.241) and Jimenez (.265) also had singles on the day for the Sox, but the offense could muster only three baserunners against the Royals pen. Oh, and Zach Duke also announced he would retire after the season. 14-11 April 23: Angels 6, White Sox 5. The Sox have fallen into a three way tie for first with the Twins and Royals, if only because the Sox pen couldn't hold on after another quality Kopech start (5 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K. The Sox chased Shohei Ohtani in the third, taking a 5-3 lead on the strength of a Leury Garcia HR (1) and Mendick RBI double (.360). However, in the eighth, Tommy La Stella faced Aaron Bummer, who relieved Kelvin Herrera, and La Stella hit a three run shot to take the lead. Kyle Keller would strike out the side in the top of the ninth. 14-12 April 24: Angels 4, White Sox 0. Both teams only managed three hits. Unfortunately for the Sox, all three of the Angels' hits were home runs. Matt Foster started as the opener and was relieved after just three batters, and Gio Gonzalez pitched the next 6.1 IP (3 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 5 K). Abreu had a single for the Sox, and you already know who had the other two hits (.367). Luis Robert is really struggling, hitting just .139. 14-13 April 25: Angels 7, White Sox 2. Its easy to point fingers at the bullpen at this point. Dylan Cease had another strong start (5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K; 3.90 ERA) but Ian Hamilton (IP, 3 H, 2 ER) and Evan Marshall (.2 IP, H, 3 R, 2 ER) helped cough up a 2-1 lead in the 7th and 8th innings. The Sox were paced on offense by solo shots from Moncada (4) and Mendick (3; .361). Luis Robert also hit his first triple on the year. With just Anderson (.347), Mendick and Fisher (.293) hitting above .250 in today's starting lineup, will those three migrate to the top of the lineup to give Moncada some help? Let's hope so. 14-14 April 26: White Sox 2, Angels 0. Yoan Moncada would lead off the game with a solo shot (5) against Julio Teheran and that's all the Sox would need. Zack Collins would later knock in Tim Anderson with an RBI single with two outs in the ninth, but it was just insurance. Keuchel (5.2 IP, 2 H, 4 BB, 5 K) was a bit spotty with his control, but with no one putting the bat on the ball, it wouldn't matter. The Angels would manage just three hits and the bullpen was strong as Sousa, Bummer and Colome would allow just one hit and one walk in 3.1 IP. Edwin Encarnacion would also have a two hit effort. Dann Mendick would go 0-3 with a walk, but he still leads the team with a .349 average. Sousa was rewarded for his strong relief effort with a plane ticket to Birmingham, to be replaced with Codi Heuer. 15-14 April 27: An off day, but RoboHahn thinks better of his bullpen shuffle, and sends Heuer back to Birmingham and recalls Sousa. Soxtalk has a 200 reply thread wondering why. April 28: Rockies 6, White Sox 2. The Sox fall to .500 in their interleague debut for 2020. RoboRenteria has shfuffled the lineup in interleague (Robert 8, Anderson 6, Jimenez 7, Moncada 5, Fisher 9, Grandal 2, Encarnacion 3, Mendick 4, Lopez 1) and while it scratches out some baserunners, it isn't near enough. Reynaldo Lopez drops to 0-4 (4 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K; 4.22 ERA) and Hamilton and Foster both allow a run in relief. The Rockies would manage four home runs, while the Sox would manage just one extra base hit, a two run double by Mendick (.352). The Sox would ground into five double plays. so I guess that's a thing. Robert would go 2-3 in his debut in the leadoff spot, while Anderson and Moncada also had two hit games. After the game, RoboHahn continued bullpen roulette, opting Hamilton to AA and recalling Codi Heuer. 15-15 April 29: Rockies 7, White Sox 3. The Sox fall under .500 in their last game of April. Michael Kopech was rocked and would not escape the second (1.2 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) and it was more than enough as home runs by Jimenez (5) and Encarnacion (8) weren't near enough. Abreu (3B) and Anderson accounted for the only other hits by the Sox. Interested to see how RoboHahn juggles the bullpen with an off day coming up, as Gio Gonzalez pitched the last inning of the game in relief (IP, H, ER, BB, 2 K). 15-16 April 30: No major league moves from RoboHahn. Yolbert Sanchez was promoted to AAA. That's something, I guess. Batting leaders: Anderson (.355), Encarnacion (8 HR, 19 RBI). Pitching leaders Keuchel (3.15 ERA, 3 W) Cease (41 K)

The game certainly doesn't think we are winning big this year unless things go sideways. Sure seems to like Mendick so far though. I'll get the second half of April up later today.

OOTP 21 Sim of 2020
April 1: White Sox 13, Indians 7. The run continues. But at a cost. The Indians rocketed out of the gates to a 5-0 lead before Giolito (1.1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) was pulled due to injury. Codi Heuer (3.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB, K) and Matt Foster (2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, K) didn't provide much relief, but thankfully the bats did. Home runs from Abreu (1), Anderson x 2 (2), Collins (1) and Encarnacion (5) paced the Sox on the day. Nomar Mazara is also playing in his first game for some reason, going 3-6 with 2 RBI. Every Sox starter with exception of Eloy gets a hit on the day. 5-1 April 4: Bad news on Giolito. He's got a sprained ankle and will miss 5 weeks. Sox purchase the contract of Alex McRae from Charlotte. April 4: Red Sox 5, White Sox 3. Red Sox 4, White Sox 2. A rain out leads to a double header and a pair of losses for the Sox. Cease (3.2 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 5 K) and Keuchel (5.1 IP, 12 H, 3 ER, 6 K) both get hir around a bit in Fenway Park. Abreu goes 2-4 in the opener and Encarnacion goes 1-2 with 2 BB. Moncada's average is sitting at .147 while Danny Mendick is hitting .360. Time to shuffle the lineup? 5-3 April 5: Red Sox 5, White Sox 4. A four hit day out of Jose Abreu (.351, 2 HR, 7 RBI on the season) isn't enough, nor are two hit games by Anderson, Brugman and Mendick (.379). A pedestrian effort by Lopez (5 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, K) and another mediocre outing by Aaron Bummer (2.1 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 K; 7.71 ERA) allow the Red Sox to get the sweep. 5-4 April 6: Mariners 7, White Sox 5. The slide continues. Alex McRae debuts and gets rocked, allowing six runs on eight hits in 3.2 IP. Despite the bullpen allowing just one run on three hits the rest of the way, the lead was too much to overcome. Yoan Moncada has his first three hit game (.214 on the season), but it seems Encarncion is coming back to Earth (1 of his last 12, hitting .289). Mendick is still hitting .375 - should he be moved up in the lineup? And how long are we going to let Derek Fisher (1-4, .188 on the season) look like this with Luis Robert waiting in the minors? For that matter, Leury has had to play center with Brugman not playing well. Without Edwin and Mendick, this team is below .500. 5-5 April 7: White Sox 5, Mariners 1. Gio Gonzalez is back. In his first full start for the team that drafted him, he struck out 10 Mariners in 5.2 IP, while allowing just one run on six hits. Herrera, Hamilton and Marshall allow just two hits the rest of the way. The Sox did all their damage in the fifth, scoring all five runs off of Mariners starter Marco Gonzales. Eloy's third home run of the year paced the Sox on a rare Mendick off day. 6-5 April 8 results in a slew of moves for the Sox. Michael Kopech is prompted to replace Alex McRae. A number of Sox farm hands are released including Tayron Guerrero, Jacob Lindgren, John Parke, Blake Battenfield, Vince Arobio, Craig Dedelow, Danny Dopico, Zach Thompson, Caleb Frare and Victor Diaz. And, hey, Fulmer was promoted from Winston-Salem to Birmingham. April 8: Mariners 4, White Sox 1. Alas. Michael Kopech makes his debut for the 2020 Sox and throws 5.1 hitless innings, but spotty control (four walks, HMP) end his day in the sixth. Codi Heuer gets lit up in the seventh, allowing three runs on home runs by Dan Vogelbach and Kyle Lewis. Yusei Kikuchi scattered seven hits through eight innings. Derek Fisher is still hitting .189. Will the Sox make a change? Or maybe play Mazara more? 6-6 April 10: White Sox 9, Twins 7. Maybe Derek Fisher read the criticisms, as a three hit day helped pace the Sox against Homer Bailey and the Twins. Mendick added three hits as well (.375) and Moncada and Abreu peached knocked in a a pair. Cease allowed three runs on three hits in 5 innings, but the Sox bullpen remains questionable. Alex Colome was chased in the ninth after allowing a run on three hits, but Aaron Bummer was brought in to slam the door for the save with two runners on. The Sox are currently one game out of first, behind the Royals (!). In other news around baseball, Avisail Garcia goes deep three times as the Brewers beat the Mets 31-3. Garcia finished the game with 12 RBI, and Robinson Cano and Jed Lowrie both allowed five runs in relief for the Mets. Matt Adams, Jake Marisnick and Rene Rivera also surrendered runs in relief. 7-6 April 11: White Sox 9, Twins 3. The Sox rock Kenta Maeda off of an Ecarnacion three run shot (6) and three hits from Tim Anderson (.370). Danny Mendick remains the teams best hitter (.372) and Nomar Mazara plays in his second game (2-5) for some reason. At least Ricky is optimizing his appearances I guess. Moncada commits 3 (!) errors in the game, but it does matter as Keuchel goes 7 strong, allowing three runs. Bummer picks up a win in relief (4.50 ERA on the year) as the Sox score six in the bottom of the eighth. 8-6 April 12: Twins 6, White Sox 0. The Sox manage just two hits (Abreu, Fisher) against Matt Wisler in 8.2 IP. Lopez allows just one earned run and lasts into the sixth, but a three run shot by Nelson Cruz against Kelvin Herrera in the seventh (15.00 ERA on the year) pushes the game out of reach. But moves are happening! The Sox sent down Palka (of the one at bat on the year Palka's) and recall Luis Robert. Lets see if he debuts in the lineup. 8-7 April 13: Royals 4, White Sox 2. Luis Robert does debut in CF, but the Sox can't get any offense out of him or anyone else. A solo shot by Tim Anderson (.373, 3 HR, 14 RBI) and a single by Danny Mendick (.370) are the only hits for the Sox. Robert goes 0-3 in his first game for the Pale Hose. Kopech's command remains spotty (4 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, HBP, 2 K) as the Royals continue their terrifying run to the top. 8-8 April 14: Royals 7, White Sox 6. Can we get Danny Mendick some help? He gives the Sox an early lead with a three run shot in the second (2-4 on the day, .380 average on the season) and Jose Abreu adds a solo shot to push the Sox lead to 6-1 in the third, but Gio Gonzalez does not escape the third and the Royals pull to within 6-5. Matt Foster and Aaron Bummer both allow runs in relief and the Sox bats fall silent after the third. 8-9 April 15: Bad news from Birmingham. Andrew Vaughn has broken his foot and will be out 3-4 weeks. In lighter news, Robo-Hahn has switched out Jaycob Brugman for Adam Engel. Will it make any difference? April 15: White Sox 5, Royals 0, Lets say the Engel move did make a difference. Or maybe it was the 4 hit day out of Tim Anderson (.397 on the season). Or maybe those three walks by Grandal (who is only hitting .157 on the season). In reality, a well balanced effort out of the Sox lineup with thirteen hits paced the Sox. Oh, and Edwin stole his third base of the year. Dylan Cease was masterful (6 IP, 2 H, BB, 5 K) and the Sox bullpen only allowed two hits over the final three innings. The Sox finish the first half of April at 9-9.

OOTP 21 Sim of 2020
March 11: Looks like virtual Hahn is more antsy to get some value out of James McCann than some of the posters here. He's shipped McCann north of the border to Toronto for outfielder Derek Fisher. March 20: Another favorite Soxtalk topic has found a home. Puig to the Padres for a one year deal, $5.3 million. March 26: An Opening Day trade? Sure. Kansas City sends Trevor Rosenthal and Jackson Kowar to the Brewers for catcher David Freitas, for some reason. Whats our Opening Day Sox look like? Well, the rotation is unchanged. Fulmer has been sent to Winston-Salem (!) and Jimmy Cordero to Birmingham. Jaycob Brugman has also replaced Adam Engel on the roster, while Ian Hamilton and Zack Collins have joined the active roster. Luis Robert is also back in AA for some reason, with Palka taking his place. I'm starting to worry about Robo-Hahn. March 26: White Sox 7, Royals 2. Lucas Giolito absolutely eviscerates the Royals (7 IP, H, 2 BB, 9 K) and the Sox start out with six runs in the bottom fo the first, chasing Brad Keller after 2/3 of an inning. Encarnacion went deep for the first time. 1-0 March 28: White Sox 5, Royals 3. Keuchel nearly matches Giolito. (8.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, BB, 7 K) Bummer gives up two runs in the ninth, but the Sox hold on. Edwin goes deep again. The Brugman as starting CF experiment isn't going as hot. (0-4, 3K, 5 LOB). Soxtalk is also not sure how to feel about Renteria's lineup today (Anderson SS, Enarnacion DH, Jimenez LF, Abreu 1B, Grandal C, Fisher RF, Moncada 3B, Mendick 2B, Brugman CF). But, whatever, it worked. 2-0 March 29: White Sox 5, Royals 2. The Sox start out the year with a sweep. Cease isn't quite as sharp as the first two starters (4.2 IP, 3H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) but 4.1 innings of relief from Hamilton, Marshall and Colome (two hits allowed total) shuts the door on the Royals. Eloy gets his first two home runs of the year and Grandal also gets on the board with a solo shot. Encarnacion continues his strong start with a 1-3 performance and his second (!) stolen base of the year. 3-0 March 30: Indians 4, White Sox 3. Looks like 162-0 is out of the question, but not because of Reynaldo Lopez. (5 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K). Rather Kelvin Herrera coughs up a 2-0 lead in the sixth, and Jace Fry allows two runners to score and the Sox fall behind 4-3 and cannot come back. Moncada is only hitting .077, and Abreu isn't doing much better at .154. Thank God Danny Mendick is hitting .500 (7-14, 1 HR, 6 RBI). 3-1 March 31: White Sox 6, Indians 4. What about Yoan? He gets going with a 2-5 performance, but it means nothing compared to March MVP Edwin Encarnacion (3-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI). It looked like the Sox were headed to another loss, down 3-2 after the sixth inning, but Edwin stepped up to the plate in the seventh and brought in Moncada to take the lead with a two run dong. He then tacked on an insurance run with a solo shot in the ninth. It's not all roses, however, as Gio Gonzalez' long awaited Sox debut lasts just four pitches before being removed with an injury. Seven Sox relievers cover the full nine innings as we await the news on Gio. 4-1 Sox leaders in March Jimenez (.421 avg) Encarnacion (10 RBI, 4 HR, 0.6 WAR, 1.435 OPS, 2 SB...) Oh, and we heard back from Gio. He's day to day with strained abdominal muscle. Robo-Hahn has also apparently gone rogue, as Jace Fry and Steve Cishek have been optioned to AAA, replaced with Matt Foster and Codi Heuer. Cishek had pitched two perfect innings, while Fry carried a 2.70 ERA thru 2.1 IP.

OOTP 21 Sim of 2020
The roster I went with is as follows and goes with what my best guess about what the opening day roster would look like. SP: Giolito, Keuchel, Lopez, Cease, Gonzalez RP: Colome, Bummer, Cishek, Cordero, Fry, Fulmer, Herrera, Marshall Catcher: Grandal, McCann IF/DH: Abreu, Encarnacion, Garcia (IF/OF), Mendick, Moncada, Cuthbert OF: Mazara, Robert, Engel, Jimenez -- That's literally the only thing I'm setting. I'm gonna do a post for each month after that....it's a boring spring break 'round these parts, so why not.

OOTP 21 Sim of 2020
I just downloaded the pre-release yesterday.....thought I would run a sim and post some stuff here. I plan to set the opening day roster to about what I think it will be and then sit back and we can see how the team was mismanaged.

Andrew Vaughn
I would one hundred percent hate watching him on another team. Whoever described his at bats as an interrogation is right
