QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 07:44 PM) Untank for Beer Priceless

Still praying for 2nd holding out hope for 3rd while conceded to 4th being likely the best possible remaining outcome.

Since when is anything from me coveted?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Shins are bothering him again I saw this thread on the homepage and just about s*** a brick. A reoccurrence is expected from my ( highly naive mostly uninformed opinion ). Thank god that we're almost to the offseason, I trust ( and pray ) that he'll get himself healthy. Excuse me while I back away from the ledge and feverishly search for ptatc's insight somewhere herein.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 07:23 AM) Stolen bases are overrated as a stat. They're nice, but an out is a lot of risk. I guess you don't remember Scotty Pods in the 2005 year. Or perhaps your second statement kinda alludes to your stance... if you've got speed which equates to a high success rate ( low risk ) then a burner can ignite an offense and put pressure on the opposing team in a couple of ways. Moncada clearly has game changing speed. Dudes electric! -
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) Story in Sun-Times this morning. Quotes Rodon a lot. Sox apparently STILL can't figure out what's wrong with him: http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/white-s...ry-on-shoulder/ This whole Rodon thing has EASILY been the absolute definitively WORST part of 2017. Unless you somehow believed Charlie Tilson was the second coming of Ken Griffey Jr.

QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 08:37 AM) I laugh to myself when I see people still thinking Avi has power lol Liar.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 10:32 PM) I'm not sold that Avi will generate enough lift to truly tap into his power potential. I hope I'm wrong but 30+ walks per year and less than 20HR's is just not impressive from the RF position. It's kinda moot anyway because even if Avi is on the Sox next year he will be moved from RF when Eloy is ready. Avi can't stop that runaway freight train. Can't believe I didn't notice his low walk totals. He's gonna be a VERY interesting guy to watch next year and with regard to his development of power - we'll see. This time last year everyone was clamoring to offload the dude. Now the big question is can he take the next step on his power tool? I'll take that to the bank and be stoked. The beauty really is it being moot. If he takes the next step, awesome. Sign him to an extension at that point and pencil him in as an all-star corner and put him as a fixture in the middle of your lineup for a few years with other upcoming bats flanking him. If not, oh well - we've got options and money to spend. Where the White Sox sit - it's a thing of beauty.

This hasn't been formally said yet - so let me go ahead and throw it out there... I hereby nominate and award this thread as "Soxtalk 2017 Thread of the Year".

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 11:12 PM) Sox won, Phillies won, Detroit lost, Giants lost. 1.5 GB of Detroit for the 3rd pick 2 GB of the Phillies for the 2nd pick 2.5 GB of the Giants for the 1st pick 7 games left for the Sox. This is starting to get fugly. Really think the Phillies and / or Giants are the most likely to give us a window to drop again back down.

QUOTE (GermanSock @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 10:06 PM) 4th pick... probably means you are looking for a 4th starter or average regular hitter... I think that's a stretch but otherwise, think you're spot on. It'd be great to lock down a top 3 pick but it isn't the end of the world or means for this year to be determined unsuccessful, at all. Hell - I was hoping for the top selection just primarily a selfish reason: unrestricted speculation until draft day.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) Reds bullpen collapse, looking like only 2.5 up on them I was expecting an exciting close to the season... but not this type of excitement.

QUOTE (Chisoxmb35 @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 04:54 PM) I was being hyperbolic. I noticed the quoted poster always tints post in a negative light. Remote maybe wasn't the right word. Unlikely would have been better. Welcome aboard! May you have a great experience here which increases your readily apparent ChiSox fandom. Hope you stick around until at least 2041. Your nickname, by the way - is the bee's knees.

Great game so far. Hopefully the Royals score 32 runs between the 8th and 9th innings.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:48 PM) Oh, random thought. What ever happened to chisoxmike? He must be taking a massive po....... uh..... nevermind. I can't say that word without unleashing the wrath. Yea.... RIP 2017 White Sox baseball. It's been a fun season, in a very very different way.

Iguchi's final season over, may go into managing...

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 10:22 PM) ... Meanwhile Avi ... does not draw enough walks, hit for enough power... I think you're being a bit hard on him and discounting the next stage of his evolution as a hitter... he really is primed to start stepping into his power next year. Get what you're sayin and all, thou.

I think the Tigers lost Wilson and Mahtook for the last few games they play this season... and perhaps Miggy and Candelario as well. They're a big threat for the number 1 slot. Wouldn't be surprised if they don't end up winning another game this year - as someone said earlier this week. Just hope that we stay within 2 games of the Phillies and Giants heading into the final series against Cleveland. Pray they sweep us and the Gaints can win some against San Diego while the Phillies beat the Mets... I guess.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 09:27 PM) I mean you said it all. The guy is only 26. Tim Anderson turns 25 next June 23; his age 25 season. Avi turns 27 next June 12, his age 27 season. Anderson is considered young and everybody's all pumped up bout him; Avi considered an aging non prospect. Kill the cliches and get real, people. Avi is just as good a prospect, maybe even better prospect than TA. How's that for a bold, true statement? That said, the Sox are in a good position to not do anything cept let him play next season. No need to do anything with his contract but trading him would be stupid. You think we aren't going to need Avi and Jose for our WS team?? All prospects isn't gonna cut it. ( aside from the sour grapes attitude... buddy )

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:21 PM) Here are guys I don't want to see on the Sox mound next season. They happen to have all pitched tonight. Covey, Fry, Alburquerque, Holmberg and Beck. I truly would rather have Fathom learn the knuckleball and pitch than those horrific pitchers. What's another year for some of them going to hurt? Specifically Fry, Holmberg, and Beck. If they could all harness a bit more control to limit walks and home runs, we could see some value from them over the course of the next 5 years. Doesn't hurt to try during a down year. Covey wouldn't hurt to keep around in the minors but Alburquerque... he should indeed be taken out to green pastures.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:21 PM) Ha ha, bats*** crazy for the first two months of the new year. Just call me Tweek! Yeah man, Chicago winters suck and especially if ya got a few aches and pains. I told the lil woman we should move to the southwest and she said " f*** that. I'm not going back to living in a f***ing oven. Dry heat my ass". To which I promptly replied with " Uh, OK". Now that your no longer with Mrs.hi8is, we can use a few more Sox fans in Chicago. Just disregard everything I just said about Chicago winters. The south sucks balls with it's humidity... and you have no idea how much I could move / travel around... hi8is junior ties me to the area since The Vampire won't just turn into a bat and vanish forever.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:06 PM) Sorry, couldn't resist. I'll just show myself the door. I do not recall you being a previous offender of that song.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) Same here. The holidays and winter meetings helps the time to pass but once were into the new year, I start getting antsy like a mofo. Once pitchers and catchers report I'm OK but bored out of my skull before that. This is exactly how I am QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) Cold Chicago winters don't exactly help either. Conversely, here in California - I'm loving the escape from triple digit heat and continually pray for more and more rain. I've been to ChiTown a few times during the winter and... uh... yea... I don't envy you. Come baseball season, that envy surely rises up. If I lived in Chicago - I have not a single doubt that I'd be working at 35th and Shields in the front office. ( My inability to do so yet again can be traced back to my bonehead decision to marry and breed with the good old lovely ex Mrs. hi8is. She's such a peach. )

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) Bust. Trade him before his value plummets any further! Boy, does that sound familiar

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 11:57 AM) I think this is the hardest position to fill in baseball. How are the younger guys doing in the farm system? Much better and more promising than in years past. I can't remember the last time we drafted a catcher with our first pick. Looks like it was Josh Phegley in 2009 - prior to that it was 1994 in Mark Johnson - followed by 1985's selection of Kurt Brown - and then none other than Ron Karkovice in '82. Overall, I think people should be happy with Collins in that he showed a great improved skillset over the year at catcher. Even coming out of the gate after spring training he was showing that he had potential to hold down the fort. After his end of year promotion to AA his offensive numbers also showed improvement. This offseason and in the spring, I look for him to take a big stride forward on the offensive side of his game and I've really came around on him since the initial draft pick. Kudos Hostetler and company. In the lower levels we've also got some other interesting names in Seby Zavala and Brett Austin, to a lesser extent. Collins needs to stick or we're going the FA / trade route when the time comes. Edit: I'm sure that one of the Future Sox guys here could give you a more comprehensive perspective.
