Some dude on X named Chris Gonzalez who is a chisox podcast host claims to have heard from Ozzie’s camp that the pick will be Roch and that he was told a month ago that this is already locked in. Seems doubtful but if it is legit then all of the reporting we have seen is posturing… and that certainly seems plausible.

I have never thought of them possibly moving to shortstop - only the outfield… and Lackey isn’t your normal catcher. The only reason it is a line of reasoning I am exploring is that he has the athleticism and skills, according to numerous publications, to be able to excel out there. So… no, it isn’t going to tank his value. There’s also the potential to have him and Teel split time between catching, outfield, and DH where the two have a third catcher that can spell them both once every 7 to 10 days that can also rotate around those other spots. If Boston Smith keeps it up, he could be that type of guy… a catcher who is also getting time in left already in AA. Just another thing to consider.

Yea that has been his perspective when comparing the two for some time now and it helps land the point… However, of the three Emerson scares me the most and has the likely longest timeline to the bigs. No thanks.

Not if Lackey has a better hit / power / athleticism profile and would excel in a move to the outfield. Two of the three propositions there are generally believed to be true. I just need to make a pact with myself to not talk about the draft until Friday. 🤣

The past couple of days are the first we’ve heard the FO being linked to Lackey by any writers from what I recall. Have you heard anything yourself first or second hand to corroborate?
