  1. I kept hearing about Poreda's "plus-plus fastball" and he supposedly threw 99 but I never saw anything close to it.
  2. There was a variation of that graph up on speaker.gov, not sure if it's still there. edit: nm that is the same graph but updated. I'm just dumb.
  3. That incident was f***ing retarded though. Actually I think Cinco de Mayo is an American holiday anyway.
  4. Yeah I know this was argued before but holy s*** do stockholders ever act like irrational tween girls or what? Do these things happen automatically or something? Apple plummeted like $60 for pretty much no reason, for instance.
  5. I wouldn't say that John Danks came "off the scrap heap." He was a first round draft pick, and was still very raw, but it's not like he was a complete nobody.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) Link Wasn't that last year?
  7. I read somewhere that he had a personal issue or something that he talked to the team about. I am still kind of bewildered that there was that small but vocal group of posters that really wanted the Sox to sign him.
  8. The Democrats are just as owned by lobbyists as Republicans are, I thought this was kind of a settled point actually, but in any case why wouldn't lobbyists be donating to the Democrats right now? They have the White House, 59 Senate seats, and a huge majority in the House. If you are actually trying to influence the government's agenda, wouldn't donating more to Republicans seem kind of retarded?
  9. Someone's Facebook status the other day: "Bobby Jindal is requesting federal funds to help clean up the oil spill. Bobby, big government is not going to solve your problems. All this spending will do is add to the deficit and ruin our children's future." I lol'd.
  10. You can't just arbitrarily take away someone's citizenship, and if you have enough proof to even do something like that, then why are we talking about it? Convict him in court, sentence him, call it a day. It's not like we're going to not have them in a U.S. prison when we do and it's not like it's going to matter whether what their nationality is. I wouldn't say Lieberman's statement is insane, but I would definitely say he's just talking out of his ass because he thinks it sounds good to some people. Again.
  11. chat's not working tonight
  12. Doesn't warmer air hold more moisture?
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 4, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) Isn't "hey lets end it" a pretty good description of what the military said last time that Congress asked? It's more than 10 seconds at this point. I think it's pretty clear they're trying to at least slip past the mid-term elections and hope that they can avoid a backlash against them from either side. Secretary Gates + Admiral Mullen ≠ military but in any case, as per what President Obama wanted, the leadership made it a lot more difficult to chapter someone out against their will, they can't be outed by a 3rd party as easily, etc. They're laying groundwork, getting the military used to the idea, it's eventually going to happen. It seemed like something a president could just overturn with an executive order, but not really. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 4, 2010 -> 10:20 AM) I see no reason why it hasn't been fully repealed yet. (DADT) DADT was an act of Congress so to override permanently it would take another act of Congress, and we know after 2009 the Senate isn't really capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time.
  14. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ May 3, 2010 -> 10:57 PM) So I´m curious is Rios the real deal now this year? He sure looks like after a month and change. Well if you watched him last year compared to this year it's like it's not even the same player.
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 2, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) My issue with a lot of politics, Kaperbole ™ aside, is the blatent one-sidedness of it all. The pendulum swing of BushCo's "either you're with us or against us" vs. the "we are all global citizens and we all need to be one people" stuff really bugs me. The honest middle should be, yea, I'm proud of my country, be it Canada, the US, Germany, France, or whatever, but the freedoms granted to us all should be kept at all costs (aka, remember our history, don't repeat the mistakes, honor generations before us, etc.), no matter what the nation, creed, or race. Way too often, people forget that, and that's where respect goes out the window. That's basically paraphrasing Obama... lol
  16. Yeah, I figured that's how he'd take Ozzie's comments. I have no problem with Ozzie talking like that about players at all.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 2, 2010 -> 12:00 AM) Do all fanbases dissect the lineup on a daily basis like Sox fans do? Does it really matter who bats where that much? The way I see it as long as Pierre is ninth, that's all I want. Don't understand the obsession. It's because Ozzie does s*** like bat Vizquel second, and he does it all the time.
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ May 1, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) Ryan Madson injures himself kicking a folding chair. http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/blog/roto_...=fantasy,237971 Going on the DL. Is he friends with Carlos Quentin?
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 1, 2010 -> 01:51 AM) I'm stunned. I certainly didn't expect them to contend for the division. But this is pathetic. Brian Matusz has been the lone bright spot so far. Yeah, it's not like you or me was wrong about how much talent is actually on that team. They're just not stepping up. Still, I would s*** myself to have Wieters, and I would take anybody in their outfield over anyone in our outfield. I don't understand how damn near EVERYONE can fail at the same time. Then again, the White Sox are doing it, so I guess it's not that foreign to me after all is it?
  20. Yeah that was a pretty awesome typo.
  21. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 1, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) Read the Communist Manisfesto and then compare it to what he said this week. He WAY believes in socialism tendencies then he does the free market. Redistribtion of wealth, power of the government and centralization thereof, as opposed to individual freedoms, he's all over that crap. I never hear this guy say anything positive about what's happening, only how we suck and the government needs to fix it all. Ok, I'll play here - give me 5 reasons to be positive about the falling-off-the-cliff economy from 2009.
  22. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 1, 2010 -> 09:14 AM) You own oil company stocks? This is actually a sector I own none of. I do own energy stocks, but no oil stocks. I never auto-reinvest dividends, I usually take them when the pool up enough and buy a bargain stock rather than sinking more money into a company I already own. It helps with further diversification. A long time ago, like in the 50s, my grandfather lost his job but they gave him a decent severance package that had a lot of stocks, I guess there were a lot of industrial companies in it. He left them alone and re-invested all his dividends until he died, then my grandmother didn't do anything with them either, so after 50, 60 years, these companies grew a lot they ended up with a ton more. So my grandmother gives me the BP stocks now and then but she tells me I'm not allowed to do anything other than re-invest, until she dies, then I can do whatever I want (but I'll probably just do what she did).
  23. How is praying not religious? It pretty much is, by definition, and in order to make that untrue you have to do some serious logic-twisting.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 1, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) Why can't we have a national Atheism day? I guess technically using the same logic, you can, but good luck to anybody who is openly atheist trying to get elected president to actually try to push that.
