QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 09:55 PM) Pierre trying to have the worst solo performance in Sox history tonight. Dewayne Wise already did that last year on Opening Day. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) That is why I brought up Wade who I think is a much better comparison. Wade is and always has been a bad 3 pt shooter. Early in his career he took very few 3's and sucked at them. Now he takes about 3 a game and still is only a 30% 3 pt shooter. His early career shooting both from 3 and the FT line is similar to Rose and they are both guards who excel at attacking the basket so Wade is the closest comparison. It is also important to note that with Jordan 3 pt shooting was not a big part of the game when he was growing up and college basketball didn't even have a 3 pt line nationally until 1986 so he wouldn't have worked on that aspect of his game that much growing up. Yeah you wrote that after I replied and while I was typing, but I agree, and that's more of what I was talking about. Rose is going to be a more prolific scorer and harder to defend if teams are afraid of him taking shots from 15, 18 feet. And although it's still a wet dream, both he and LeBron have the ability to create for others so that offense would be really hard to stop.

Is there a Supreme Court ruling that says that somewhere? (Asking because I don't know). I've always thought of specific religions, i.e. Christianity, because colonists were tired of being dicked around by the Church of England.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) LeBron still isn't a good 3 pt shooter and almost certainly never will be a really good one but except for his first year in the league he was always a dramatically better 3 pt shooter than Rose is. LeBron shot 35% from 3 his 2nd year in the league and has basically been about a 33% 3 pt shooter since then. Rose has been well under 30% from 3 each of his first two years and has been hesitant to even take 3's. He could certainly develop a long range shot but there is no evidence to support it. LeBron at 21 was shooting the 3 at the same percentage he is now. Compared to James, Rose hardly even attempts threes so to compare them like that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, the 3 is not a part of Rose's game, at least not yet. In any case that's not really where I was going with that. I was talking more generally about Rose getting better as a shooter, it's not like it's unheard of, it just takes a few years of practice. Jordan was a terrible 3 point shooter in the mid 80s mostly because he just didn't need to, he could average 35 ppg without attempting more than about 50 threes in a season since he could just penetrate and drive on anyone (similar to Rose although obviously Rose is a far inferior player, and I'm not comparing him to MJ, my bad for that, it's just MJ was the first one I could think of with that career trend). Then he developed an outside shot out of necessity thanks to the Jordan Rules and things like that and he got harder to defend, since you block his lane to the basket and he'd just step back and take the open shot, and if you contest the shot, he'd drive around you. I see no reason why Rose can't or won't do that.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 08:29 PM) Does it not endorse belief over non-belief? Or theism over non-theism/atheism/deism/pantheism? It's so vague, how does it actually infringe on the rights of atheists?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) It works every time. People want something for nothing and fall hook, line and sinker when the GOVERNMENT SAVES bulls*** is passed out like candy at a campaign speech. Yeah, the knife cuts both ways though. "I pledge to reduce the size of government when I get in office!" Oh but not this, that, that, that, that, that, or that because you want to keep it and you'd vote me out if I did. Actually f*** it, how bout I just vote for a couple of new programs while I'm at it... not big ones of course, but you know, people want it right?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 08:03 PM) They currently are in NBA hell, right in the middle of being great and being horrible, but a FA or 2 could change that. If they don't get one of the big 3 or 4 if you include Johnson, I hope they don't blow their wad on a couple of lesser guys. Its always advantageous to have a lot of cap space. I know its beyond a longshot, but if you were Lebron and seriously looked at the 2 rosters, Cleveland and Chicago, you would have to say Chicago is far superior with yourself than Cleveland is or will be with you. If Lebron signed with the Bulls and the Bulls key players remained healthy, they would dominate the NBA until their contracts ran out. Seriously, 6 or 7 titles minimum if you ask me. I really think when its all said and done, Lebron will be thought of as close to Michael Jordan's equal as anyone who has ever played or maybe even better. There's nothing he can't do, and he's bigger and stronger than MJ. Of course, he will have to shine in the Finals first. I think the Bulls would be unstoppable with LeBron. Rose, right now he scores most of his points by driving and slashing because he's so fast, and he doesn't have much of a long-range shot yet (and I'm sure he will, he's only 21, LeBron couldn't shoot for s*** at that age and now he is lights out when he's hot). Do you think the Cavs are a .500 team without LeBron? Less?

There is waste in government, but not such a significant amount that it's going to have a major impact on the overall budget even if politicians successfully managed to get rid of 100% of it. (not that it doesn't need to be done). And furthermore, anybody who votes for a politician who promises to eliminate all things they vaguely define as "waste" and "earmarks" and believes it, and expects it to happen, deserves to be pissed off later on when it doesn't happen. That is like believing the politician is going to get puppies and rainbows for everyone.
-
I'm not really bothered by the government promoting a vague idea of religious activity or faith, it's not endorsing one religion over another, and it's not infringing on anyone's right to practice or not practice their religion. But I am also with the "stupid argument" crowd.
-
If the Bulls don't land one of the big 3 they're f***ed, going to be a .500 team for the next few years barring any unforeseen circumstance like lucky FA signings. One of those 3 would make the Bulls a perennial contender, but without them, they won't be good enough to get any high seeds or have any real shot at making it out of the second round, and they won't be bad enough to get a lottery pick.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) They are upset with government spending levels. From what admittedly little I've seen in speeches and quoted statements from their leadership, they don't exclude military spending from that equation. Some might, I don't know, but you seem to THINK they feel that the military isn't subject to it. I just haven't seen any evidence as such, only your assumption. As an example, Ron Paul, the Libertarian that he is, was quite against many of our military endeavors. It's not so much that as much as that they seem to actively oppose any measure that would actually reduce military spending even if they say the defense spending is too high. What would happen if someone proposed cutting weapons systems or spoke against one of the wars? They get booed.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) Which was? lower taxes, lower federal spending, smaller government, deficit control. That's all it is... seriously, that's all it is, very basic Republican ideas. Much of it gets lost in translation thanks to the screaming idiots and people that bring incoherent and just plain dumb signs, that is what makes the blogs and the cable news networks that aren't Fox actively promoting the rallies. Also, because they're rallies and pretty shallow by nature, they aren't usually very specific on HOW they plan to balance the budget, solve specific problems, etc. However, a question like "why weren't you having rallies when Bush and the Republicans were doing the same things 4 years ago" is a fair question IMO - as if Republicans are incapable of f***ing these things up again.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 12:06 PM) OSX is very secure, so is Windows. Windows has been secure for a LONG time, despite what people say. What matters most is the thing between the keyboard and the chair. Are you running a bunch of unnecessary services? If so, I don't care WHAT OS you are using. Are you browsing random websites from "email" links? See above. Are you logged in as administrator or root 24/7 even though you don't need to be? See above. Is your firewall enabled and configured PROPERLY? Furthermore, is it a two way firewall or a useless one way firewall? I can go on and on. I don't care what OS you put in front of me, I can harden it to be as secure as possible, it will be virus/malware free, and it will remain that way so long as the users that use it follow some basic instructions. I used to do the bolded all the time. It makes a HUGE difference

We've been complaining about Bobby doing this for probably more than a year now, it's pretty understood that he needs to get his s*** together here.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 10:39 PM) I'm pretty sure a lot of fans are worried about Jenks, just because he got a 40 year old out and had to be told not to throw junk doesn't mean he should get a free pass and we should all think Bobby is fine again. It's not b****ing, it's worrying about him and his possible failures in the future due to his tendency to allow a lot of base runners. Of course Bobby shouldn't be getting a free pass, I don't think anybody is going to disagree with you there.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 10:35 PM) This win counts the same as that win in September. There's no difference other than the mindset that you HAVE to win in September and right now it's only April. But in the end, the standings aren't going to be based on games won in September. You don't want to have to use a reliever unless you need to usually, Thornton can't be coming in every game because he's the only guy that we trust. Would you bring in a SP in a long relief situation in April? Would you do it in September when your division is down to the wire?
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 10:19 PM) Well, it happened yesterday didn't it? Bobby's grown a fascination for junk pitches. Once he gets two outs, he starts messing around. Just throw your good fastball with your curve and close the game out, seriously. He's been pretty good about getting the first two outs in almost all his save situations. But when it comes to that third out, he just can't get it sometimes. It's going to happen now and again, didn't Thornton blow a game not too long ago himself? Sure you play to the odds and all, but not micromanaging for individual batters in a game in April in insignificant matchups. I guess if this game was in September, and Joe Mauer was on deck, I'd see a better reason for doing it, but not here. You just have to trust that more often than not Bobby is going to be able to do it.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) So because it is not customarily done, we should not consider doing it? I agree with doing things a certain way because they make sense. I do not agree with staying with custom sheerly because it has been custom in the past. If the custom is silly, which, when it comes to the closer position in baseball, it certainly is - there is absolutely no logic behind the closer's position in baseball - then you change it in favor of doing the the thing that allows you the best chance to succeed. It has nothing to do with "custom" or the logic of a closer (and I'm not a fan of that custom either, FWIW), if Bobby Jenks is supposed to be the best reliever in the bullpen - leaving aside whether he actually is for a moment - then you should have a reasonable expectation that he can get an old, broken down, way past his prime hitter out whether he is a lefty or not.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 08:57 PM) Because when you have the most dominating left hander in baseball in your bullpen, you use him to blow away a 40 year old left handed hitter. This was the same guy Jenks walked yesterday. It was a good thing Ozzie went to him and said, no junk, just fastballs. If he didn't, we might be fuming at the fact that we lost this game. If we can't rely on Bobby Jenks to retire a 40 year old Ken Griffey Jr. and need help from a specialist, then we're basically f***ed anyway and it doesn't matter.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) Just like when I was in Vegas and had to sit on the runway for two hours because GWB & Air Force One were flying out of there. Even that's easier than most other modes. -
I don't really care what you guys are talking about - why would a manager pull his closer just to go with a L-L matchup? That's just not something that's done.

When Obama and Biden took the train down from Delaware to DC (not even that far, maybe like 100 miles) it was a real pain in the ass for the Secret Service. -
